Hospitality Workforce Program
As one of its ongoing initiatives, the Hospitality Workforce Program is pleased to publish this edition of the “Guide
to Hospitality Education and Training in Palm Beach County.” Here you will find information on the many
sources with details on their offerings from high school to four-year college programs and beyond.
Inaugurated in 1999, the Hospitality Workforce Program is a joint undertaking of Palm Beach County’s Tourist
Development Council and Hotel and Lodging Association with its overall goal being to coordinate and
support education and training for the Palm Beach County hospitality industry in partnership with local
educational institutions, training providers and governmental and private agencies, resulting in the
increased awareness and availability of education training, career paths and opportunities in the Palm
Beach County hospitality industry.
The program's objectives are:
• Continue the Hospitality Workforce Partnership Committee to include a minimum of 14 members and hold
quarterly committee meetings to review the program in place and give counsel.
• Assist in the review of present, and the development and establishment of future hospitality and lodging
educational and training programs and courses in Palm Beach County schools (Tourism and Hospitality
Career Academies & Magnet Program) and in other post secondary educational institutions offering
hospitality courses.
• Assist in marketing the hospitality programs in Palm Beach County High Schools and Palm Beach
Community College, Northwood University, Lynn University, Florida Atlantic University, and the Florida
Culinary Institute in Palm Beach County High Schools.
• Develop and promote educational programs by accredited educational providers for those presently
employed in the hospitality industry.
• Develop shadowing and internship programs at local hotels and resorts for high school students both
during the school year and during the summer recess.
• Coordinate and undertake the promotional program in Palm Beach County schools and make it available at
other educational institutions and the general workforce to attract jobseekers to the hospitality industry by
identifying career paths, opportunities and training.
• Coordinate an annual student tourism & hospitality conference to promote hospitality careers to tourism
and hospitality students attending high school magnet and academy programs.
• Identify alliances with partners locally, in Florida and nationally for the Hospitality Workforce Program.
• Assist hospitality students to identify and apply for available local, state and national scholarships.
