BASKETBALL
Basketball is a sport that is played by two teams of five players on a rectangular court. The objective
is to shoot a ball through a hoop 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter and mounted at a height of 10 feet
(3.048 m) to backboards at each end of the court. The game was invented in 1891 by Dr. James
Naismith, who would be the first basketball coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, one of the most
successful programs in the game's history.
A team can score a field goal by shooting the ball through the basket being defended by the
opposition team during regular play. A field goal scores three points for the shooting team if the
player shoots from behind the three-point line, and two points if shot from in front of the line. A
team can also score via free throws, which are worth one point, after the other team is assessed with
certain fouls. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins, but additional time
(overtime) is issued when the score is tied at the end of regulation. The ball can be advanced on the
court by throwing it to a teammate, or by bouncing it while walking or running (dribbling). It is a
violation to lift, or drag, one's pivot foot without dribbling the ball, to carry it, or to hold the ball with
both hands then resume dribbling.
There are many techniques for ball-handling—shooting, passing, dribbling, and rebounding.
Basketball teams generally have player positions, the tallest and strongest members of a team are
called a center or power forward, while slightly shorter and more agile players are called small
forward, and the shortest players or those who possess the best ball handling skills are called a point
guard or shooting guard. The point guard directs the on court action of the team, implementing the
coach's game plan, and managing the execution of offensive and defensive plays (player positioning).
Basketball is one of the world's most popular and widely viewed sports. The National Basketball
Association (NBA) is the most popular and widely considered to be the highest level of professional
basketball in the world and NBA players are the world's best paid athletes by average annual salary
per player. Outside North America, the top clubs from national leagues qualify to continental
championships such as the Euroleague and FIBA Americas League. The FIBA Basketball World
Cup attracts the top national teams from around the world. Each continent hosts regional
competitions for national teams, like EuroBasket and FIBA Americas Championship.
The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup features the top national women's basketball teams from
continental championships. The main North American league is the WNBA, whereas the EuroLeague
Women has been dominated by teams from the Russian Women's Basketball Premier League.
Creation
In early December 1891, Canadian Dr. James Naismith, a physical education professor and instructor
at the International Young Men's Christian Association Training School (YMCA) (today, Springfield
College) in Springfield, Massachusetts was trying to keep his gym class active on a rainy day. He
sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during
the long New England winters. After rejecting other ideas as either too rough or poorly suited to
walled-in gymnasiums, he wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a 10-foot (3.0 m)
elevated track. In contrast with modern basketball nets, this peach basket retained its bottom, and
balls had to be retrieved manually after each "basket" or point scored; this proved inefficient,
however, so the bottom of the basket was removed, allowing the balls to be poked out with a
long dowel each time.
Basketball was originally played with a soccer ball. These round balls from "association football" were
made, at the time, with a set of laces to close off the hole needed for inserting the inflatable bladder
after the other sewn-together segments of the ball's cover had been flipped outside-in. These laces
could cause bounce passes and dribbling to be unpredictable. Eventually a lace-free ball construction
method was invented, and this change to the game was endorsed by Naismith. (Whereas
in American football, the lace construction proved to be advantageous for gripping and remains to
this day.) The first balls made specifically for basketball were brown, and it was only in the late 1950s
that Tony Hinkle, searching for a ball that would be more visible to players and spectators alike,
introduced the orange ball that is now in common use. Dribbling was not part of the original game
except for the "bounce pass" to teammates. Passing the ball was the primary means of ball
movement. Dribbling was eventually introduced but limited by the asymmetric shape of early balls.
Dribbling only became a major part of the game around the 1950s, as manufacturing improved the
ball shape.
The peach baskets were used until 1906 when they were finally replaced by metal hoops with
backboards. A further change was soon made, so the ball merely passed through. Whenever a person
got the ball in the basket, his team would gain a point. Whichever team got the most points won the
game. ] The baskets were originally nailed to the mezzanine balcony of the playing court, but this
proved impractical when spectators in the balcony began to interfere with shots. The backboard was
introduced to prevent this interference; it had the additional effect of allowing rebound
shots. Naismith's handwritten diaries, discovered by his granddaughter in early 2006, indicate that he
was nervous about the new game he had invented, which incorporated rules from a children's game
called "Duck on a Rock", as many had failed before it.
Frank Mahan, one of the players from the original first game, approached Naismith after the
Christmas break, in early 1892, asking him what he intended to call his new game. Naismith replied
that he hadn't thought of it because he had been focused on just getting the game started. Mahan
suggested that it be called "Naismith ball", at which he laughed, saying that a name like that would
kill any game. Mahan then said, "Why not call it basketball?" Naismith replied, "We have a basket
and a ball, and it seems to me that would be a good name for it." The first official game was played in
the YMCA gymnasium in Albany, New York, on January 20, 1892, with nine players. The game ended
at 1–0; the shot was made from 25 feet (7.6 m), on a court just half the size of a presentday
Streetball or National Basketball Association (NBA) court.
At the time, football was being played with 10 to a team (which was increased to 11). When winter
weather got too icy to play football, teams were taken indoors, and it was convenient to have them
split in half and play basketball with five on each side. By 1897–1898 teams of five became standard.
Violations
The ball may be advanced toward the basket by being shot, passed between players, thrown, tapped,
rolled or dribbled (bouncing the ball while running).
The ball must stay within the court; the last team to touch the ball before it travels out of bounds
forfeits possession. The ball is out of bounds if it touches a boundary line, or touches any player or
object that is out of bounds.
There are limits placed on the steps a player may take without dribbling, which commonly results in
an infraction known as traveling. Nor may a player stop his dribble and then resume dribbling. A
dribble that touches both hands is considered stopping the dribble, giving this infraction the
name double dribble. Within a dribble, the player cannot carry the ball by placing his hand on the
bottom of the ball; doing so is known as carrying the ball. A team, once having established ball
control in the front half of their court, may not return the ball to the backcourt and be the first to
touch it. A violation of these rules results in loss of possession.
The ball may not be kicked, nor be struck with the fist. For the offense, a violation of these rules
results in loss of possession; for the defense, most leagues reset the shot clock and the offensive
team is given possession of the ball out of bounds.
There are limits imposed on the time taken before progressing the ball past halfway (8 seconds in
FIBA and the NBA; 10 seconds in NCAA and high school for both sexes), before attempting a shot (24
seconds in FIBA, the NBA, and U Sports (Canadian universities) play for both sexes, and 30 seconds in
NCAA play for both sexes), holding the ball while closely guarded (5 seconds), and remaining in the
restricted area known as the free-throw lane, (or the "key") (3 seconds). These rules are designed to
promote more offense.
Basket interference, or goaltending is a violation charged when a player illegally interferes with a
shot. This violation is incurred when a player touches the ball on its downward trajectory to the
basket, unless it is obvious that the ball has no chance of entering the basket, if a player touches the
ball while it is in the rim, or in the area extended upwards from the basket, or if a player reaches
through the basket to interfere with the shot. When a defensive player is charged with goaltending,
the basket is awarded. If an offensive player commits the infraction, the basket is cancelled. In either
case possession of the ball is turned over to the defensive team.
POSİTİONS
Although the rules do not specify any positions whatsoever, they have evolved as part of basketball.
During the early years of basketball's evolution, two guards, two forwards, and one center were
used. In more recent times specific positions evolved, but the current trend, advocated by many top
coaches including Mike Krzyzewski is towards positionless basketball, where big guys are free to
shoot from outside and dribble if their skill allows it. ] Popular descriptions of positions include:
Point guard (often called the "1") : usually the fastest player on the team, organizes the team's
offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time.
Shooting guard (the "2") : creates a high volume of shots on offense, mainly long-ranged; and guards
the opponent's best perimeter player on defense.
Small forward (the "3") : often primarily responsible for scoring points via cuts to the basket and
dribble penetration; on defense seeks rebounds and steals, but sometimes plays more actively.
Power forward (the "4"): plays offensively often with their back to the basket; on defense, plays
under the basket (in a zone defense) or against the opposing power forward (in man-to-man
defense).
Center (the "5"): uses height and size to score (on offense), to protect the basket closely (on
defense), or to rebound.
The above descriptions are flexible. For most teams today, the shooting guard and small forward
have very similar responsibilities and are often called the wings, as do the power forward and center,
who are often called post players. While most teams describe two players as guards, two as
forwards, and one as a center, on some occasions teams choose to call them by different
designations.
STEPHEN CURRY
Stephen Curry was born on March 14, 1988 in Akron. He plays in the Curry gard form of the NBA
team wearing the form of the Golden State Warriors team. The 1.91-meter-long player is the son of
Dell Curry from former NBA players and the abuser of Seth Curry in the Sacramento Kings. Stephen
Curry, who is one of the most exclusive players who changed the course of playing basketball with a
threesome, became the first NBA champion, twice the World Championship, one regular season
MVP, one 3-time champion and three NBA All-Star. In the 2015-2016 season, the Chicago Bulls broke
the 72-10 th in the regular season, becoming the leading player in the Golden State team, winning
the most in NBA history.
Before NBA
Stephen Curry grew up in Charlotte due to his father playing in the Charlotte Hornets team despite
being born in Akron, Ohio. The Curry family, who settled in Toronto for a short time, moved back to
Charlotte with retirement of Dell Curry. Stephen Curry began Charlotte Christian High School. He was
selected as the best player of the conference and the province, and carried his team three times to
the conference championship. Virginia Tech University, like his father, wanted to enter but he did not
get admission from Virgina Tech because he had a very fine physique. For this reason, he went to
Davidson College, who has been asking himself since the 10th grade.
Proving that he was a very special shooter in his first season at Davidson, Kevin Durant's Stephen
Curry shot was the second in the number kingdom. During the 2007-2008 season, he announced his
name to all of America, allowing his team to play in the quarterfinals. The season broke the record
with 25.9 points and 2.9 assists in average and 159 times 3 points. Curry, NCAA's number leader in
the 2008-2009 season with an average of 28.6 points, is also the record holder of Davidson's school
history, with a score of 3 points. Stephen Curry, who joined the NBA Draft in 2009, was selected by
the Golden State Warriors in the 7th rank.
NBA Career
Stephen Curry played the rookie season with 17.5 points, 5.9 assists and 1.9 steals, but lost the Best
Rookie Award to Tyreke Evans. Stephen Curry steadily improves his performance in the second
season of the NBA, 2010-2011, winning the NBA All-Star talent contest and raising the average
number to 18.6. Stephen Curry could not show the performance he wanted due to disability in 2011-
2012 season. Curry, who had surgery for knee injuries from previous season, was able to reach only
26 games in the season when he suffered injuries.
Stephen Curry signed MVP award with Golden State for $ 44 million for 4 years before the 2020-2013
season. The previous season was seen as a risky contract by some names due to the problems of
disability problems. However, Stephen Curry took his performance to the next level by misleading
people. 22.9 points, 6.9 assists and 4.0 rebounds and played for the first time with Golden State. In
the first round, he hit Denver Nuggets, but in the second round he was picked up by the San Antonio
Spurs. The All-Star was selected for the first time in the 2013-2014 season, becoming the top threepoint
basketball player in the Golden State Warriors, and the NBA was named the Top Five. Golden
State and Stephen Curry, who repeatedly replayed the play-off success, were handed the Los Angeles
Clippers in the first round.
Stephen Curry entered the storm with new coach Steve Kerr for the 2014-2015 season and
completed the season with MVP and 67 wins. In addition, during his 2013-2014 season, NBA
developed a record of finding a maximum of three points on a season's track. The teams at the playoff-line
western conference were comfortable. In the final, he defeated Cleveland Cavaliers 4-2 and
won the Golden State Warriors championship 40 years later. During the 2015-2016 season, Golden
State led the NBA's most successful reign, reaching 73-9 in the NBA regular season, led by Stephen
Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Stephen Curry developed a record of finding the
maximum number of three-point spots in his own senses 402 times. The season finished with an
average of 30.1 points (number of kings), 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds. She was married to Ayesha
Curry in 2011 and became a daughter named Riley from this marriage.
LEBRON JAMES
On December 30, 1984, LeBron James came to the world of Akron, Ohio. The American basketball
player is wearing the Cleveland Cavaliers team in the NBA. With a weight of 2.03 m and a weight of
113 kg, LeBron James serves short strikers and long striker positions. The famous basketball player
has accomplished a great success with his NBA Championship twice, the Olympic Championship
twice, the NBA MVP 4 times, the NBA Finals MVP 2 times and the NBA Nationals once again.
Before NBA
LeBron James's mother, Gloria Marie James, was only 16 when she was born, and she had to raise
her son on her own. Since her mother thought she could not grow up in a family environment, she
decided to move 9-year-old LeBron James to the side of Frank Walker's family, a local american
football team coach. LeBron's meeting with basketball was also thanks to Frank Walker. LeBron
James began playing in the Northeast Ohio Shooting Stars team at the Amateur Athletic Union and
was led by; With the support of Sion Cotton, Dru Joyce III and Willie McGee, he achieved success at
local and national levels. These quartets gave themselves the name Fab Four and promised to go to
the same place. Although LeBron James offered many languages, he decided with his 3 friends at St
Vincent-St Mary's school.
LeBron James James, who played 21 points and 6 rebounds in his first season of high school in high
school, moved his team to Division III provincial championship. The next season finished with 25.2
points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.8 rebounds and 3.8 steals. The interest in LeBron James has increased so
much that St Vincent-St Mary played some of his games in the Hall of the Akron University. St
Vincent-St Mary completed the state championship success, completing the season 26-1. He became
the first Grade 3 student to win the Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year award by playing with 29
points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.3 steals. But in the final of the Division II provincial
championship, the team could not prevent it from losing. In the 4th and final season 2002-2003,
some matches started to be shown on national television and high school matches became the first
player to be given on national television. 31.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.4 steals.
Cleveland Cavaliers (1st Semester)
LeBron James did not choose to go to NCAA and announced that he would join the NBA Draft in
2003. Cleveland Cavaliers chose LeBron James to retain his first choice. James scored 25 points, 9
rebounds and 6 assists against Sacramento Kings in his first official game. This match was the most
played game in the first game of a player who was selected from the list in NBA history. The season
finished with an average of 20.9 points, 5.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds, and the NBA won the Cayla
award for the Year. Although he did not move his team to the play-offs during the 2004-2005 season,
he proved that he was the leader of the team, and he brought Cleveland to where he wanted next
season. Eastern Conference semifinal
He had to postpone the championship dreams by beating the Detroit Pistons 4-3. Despite a bad start
to the 2006-2007 season, he entered the round after the All-Star season and finished the season with
an average of 27.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists. Despite his NBA finals in the play-offs, San
Antonio lost the championship to the Spurs 4-0. Cleveland, with LeBron James, was admitted twice to
the Boston Celtics and once to Orlando Magic, in Hidayet, despite being one of the major candidates
for the championship over the next three seasons. LeBron James, who was MVP (2009, 2010) twice
in these three seasons, was free. Despite the interest of many teams, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh
chose to participate in the Miami Heat, which had stars like them.
Miami Heat
LeBron James celebrates championship with his teammates LeBron James, who had a relatively bad
season in his first year in MIAMI, suffered a statistically poor season and could not beat the Dallas
Mavericks to defeat the devil. However, this situation reversed during the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013
seasons, and LeBron James had two MVPs and two Miami Heat titles in those two seasons. The finals
in the 2 championships were MVP. In the 2013-2014 season, Charlotte broke a career record by
scoring 62 points against Bobcats. LeBron James missed the chance to play three-pts in Miami Heat,
defeating San Antonio Spurs 4-1 despite failing to make the NBA finals in their fourth season.
Released at the end of the season, James announced his return to Cleveland Cavaliers on July 11,
2014.
Cleveland Cavaliers (2nd Semester)
LeBron James, who started the season slowly due to his back pain for the 2014-2015 season,
managed to reach the NBA finals at the end of the season. LeBron James played five consecutive NBA
finals in a row and became the first player to make it after the 1960s. LeBron James, who faced a
different opponent this season, lost 4-2 against Stephen Curry's Golden State Warriors.
