I am glad to know that the WIPS, Neyveli is organizing Women's Day Celebrations on 

8th March 2017 and bringing out a Souvenir to commemorate the occasion. 

In India we say - ÂààÊã må ÂààÊàu½àã, ÂààÊã må ÂààÊàu½àã - woman is a manifestation of the divine. 

However, over the years we seem to have forgotten this saying and in many of the cases our 

society does not treat women with the respect and honour they deserve. 

There is lot to be done on "Women Empowerment" in our country. No country can 

have meaningful progress unless its women populace is improved, empowered and 

respected. We have to nurture our girl children, bring them up with equal opportunities, 

educate and empower them. Then only we can have a progressive society. 

I congratulate the WIPS chapter, Neyveli for making NLC proud by winning Prize in 

"Best Enterprise Award" instituted by Forum of Women in Public Sector (WIPS) under the 

aegis of SCOPE. NLC India also is proud of commendable activities undertaken by WIPS for 

progress and development of women.

I am very happy to know that Forum of Women in Public Sector (WIPS), NLCIL chapter is 

planning to organise Women's Day celebration and planning to bring out Souvenir on the 

occasion. 

Present day world is witnessing a paradigm shift in the outlook of women from the concept of 

women development to women empowerment. Women empowerment has become the 

buzzword today which enable the women to develop their ability to take decisions 

independently. It is a fact that women are even ahead of men in many socio-economic 

activities now a days. 

Women empowerment, in the truest sense, could be achieved by facilitating the attitudinal 

change in society with regard to women folk, treating them with proper respect, dignity, 

fairness and equality. 

In this regard, NLCIL is contributing its due share to the empowerment of its women 

employees in various fronts and forums. Efforts of NLCIL in empowering the women is 

countless which includes supporting the WIPS movement, supporting the activities of 

women who are depandants of employees and doing many social works in and around 

Neyveli area, and supporting many welfare measures especially to women to develop 

themselves independently during various occasions. 

I hope Neyveli Chapter of WIPS is striving its great efforts towards accomplishment of women 

empowerment in and around Neyveli area.

I am happy to note that the Forum of Women in Public Sector is celebrating 

"Women's day 2017" and bringing out a Souvenir. 

The celebrations are to introduce positive changes to balance the status of 

women and men. Measures that are key to ensure Women's economic empowerment 

in the changing world of work must include bridging the gender pay gap, gender gaps in 

leadership, opportunities in entrepreneurship and steps to bring down poverty level. 

In modern Indian Society, women are playing stellar role and their role in family 

building, Social development is stupendous. Indian Women are emerging out of their 

conventional role, realizing their unlimited potential and taking major role in all walks 

of life. I am proud to state that Women in India have always been honoured and

Message 

Women Symbolize 'Prakriti', means 'Nature' in Indian Philosophy. She creates 

and nurtures the creation to bloom. She signifies 'Shakti', the power that drives the 

system. Women in all over the world are now being recognised for their commitments 

to the Society and achievements they accomplished as they are the real architects of 

the Society. 

The world of work is changing rapidly with significant implications for women. 

Every aspect of the world development, technological advancement and digital 

revolution are addressed in the context of women's economic empowerment. 

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political 

and social achievements of women past, present and future. This celebration paves 

way for examine and exploring the means for upliftment of the Women in the Society. 

The theme for International Women's Day 2017 is Be Bold for Change. The 

Forum of WIPS, Neyveli an official organ of NLC INDIA LTD and under the aegis of 

SCOPE, is celebrating this year by revitalizing the power of being women and infusing 

confidence, especially among the children of feminine gender.

I am pleased to note that on the occasion of International Women's Day, 2017, 

the Neyveli Chapter of Women in Public Sector is releasing a souvenir on the theme 

"Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it up for Equality". 

The International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the Social, Economic 

and Cultural achievements of women and the day also marks a call to action for 

accelerating gender parity. The International Women's Day is being observed since 

early 1900's and the celebrations over the years continue to spearhead the struggle for 

equality. Thus the celebration ranges from general appreciation of respect to the 

achievements in Economic, Cultural and Social fronts. 

It gives me great pleasure that the Neyveli Chapter of WIPS works towards 

empowering the women not only in this organisation but also women around Neyveli 

area. 

I hope the theme for celebration of the International Women's Day 2017 viz., 

"Be Bold for Change" shall be the mantra for the WIPS activities in achieving a better 

working world - a more gender inclusive world.

Dear sisters 

I take immense pleasure in conveying my best wishes to all women in Neyveli on this 

occasion of International WOMEN'S DAY. 

I am happy to share with you that WIPS NLCIL has bagged “Best Enterprise Award” for 

the year -2016,instituted by Forum of WIPS under aegis of SCOPE for having done 

various Awareness /Training programmer to under privileged women & children in 

the peripheral villages of NLCIL and conducted training /skill development 

programme to women employees. 

At this juncture, I take this opportunity to place on record my wholehearted thanks 

to the Management for having nominated me as President first time and having given 

the unstinted support, Guidance & Motivation ,Encouragement in executing above 

programmes excellently . 

We women are marching towards to take responsibility as leader and make change 

in the society and it is visible and also unavoidable . But it is not sufficient. Still we have 

to go long way to achieve our Target. Hence we must enhance our skill and bebold 

enough to face the challenges & raise for the occasions and help each other to grow 

together. We should be role model to our children first and then to the Society.

By observing some of the latest breakthrough companies one might say that

Success at working with and among people requires collaboration, team work, 

reliability, understanding, tolerance, reciprocity, coherence and solidarity. It calls for 

trust, caring, mutual assistance, training, encouragement. 

Let's start introducing more acts to our work: giving, accepting, support and 

collaboration. Let us be respectful, considerate, helpful, trustful and encouraging to 

our colleagues. 

Empowering Women and Girls is central to achieving the sustainable

Message 

WIPS / NLCIL chapter is celebrating International Women's Day in a very grand 

manner for the past many years. 

The forum of WIPS acts as a catalyst and has been striving to push women 

forward to grow beyond their comfort zones in their personal and professional space. 

Growth of women aids economic growth. As the world desperately looks for ways to 

restart and reset the global economy, WIPS has aptly chosen the theme "PLANET 

50 - 50 by 2030 : Step up for Equality" for this year 2017. Gender equality is simply 

"Smart Economics". 

This WIPS forum creates a national network and a support system that would 

enable us to strengthen and empower women employees among public sector. WIPS 

forum not only dedicates itself for the welfare of the women employees, but also 

extends its helping hands to the downtrodden women and children in the peripheral 

villages with the support and guidance of the management of NLCIL. WIPS/NLCIL has 

been the nodal coordinator in the "SWATCH BHARAT" mission of the Corporate Social

Responsibility of NLCIL from March 1 and 15 2017. We have been conducting various 

training programs for the Self Help Groups, health talk to bring awareness about 

health, hygiene and sanitation in different schools in the peripheral villages 

surrounding Neyveli. 

Let us all come together, work for the betterment of women and contribute 

effectively to achieve the goals of the organization.

WIPS ACTIVITIES - A GLANCE - 2016-2017 

1. As a part of International Women's day celebrations conducted at our Learning and 

Development Centre, Neyveli on 21.03.2016, a workshop on the theme “A holistic 

approach on skill Development for Women in PSUs” was organised. 

2. In order to enable the women managers to perform effectively and contribute towards 

organizational growth, WIPS / Neyveli Chapter conducted Programme on 

“Communication Skill for Women” on 05.07.2016 in L& DC. 

3. To create awareness on safety standards to be followed at Home, WIPS / Neyveli Chapter 

organized a programme on “Safety & Home Science” on 24-02-2016. 

4. A Programme on PENNUM PORULUM FINANCIAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME was 

conducted by WIPS / Neyveli Chapter on 26.08.2016 

5. A Programme on “Laws helpful for Women Happiness” was conducted by WIPS/ Neyveli 

Chapter on 15.10.2016. 

6. A Programme on SAFETY OF FEMALE CHILD. As part of creating awareness about the 

importance of Education and Rights of safety among the female Children, Members of 

WIPS visited a rural school at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Vadalur, Cuddalore 

Dist. 

7. WIPS organized Wellness programme for Cuddalore District HIV Positive women & 

children on 07.01.2016 at L& DC Auditorium, Neyveli. 

8. An awareness programme on “Cyber crimes & risk factor involved using social network” 

was organized by WIPS / Neyveli Chapter on 15.10.2016. 

9. WIPS/Neyveli Chapter celebrated TEACHER'S DAY with Teachers on 09.09.2016 at 

Panchayat Union Middle School, Nellikkollai Panchayat, Bhuvanagiri Taluk 

10. WIPS/NLC chapter has celebrated “CHILDRENS DAY on 14.11.2016 with village 

Children at Govt. High school Vandurayanpattu, Bhuvanagiri, Cuddalore Dist

Panjiri Recipe 

(Whole Wheat flour Puttu)

Ingredients for Panjiri 

Whole Wheat flour - 1 cup 

Sugar Powder - ¾ cup 

Ghee - ½ cup 

Badam - 10-12 Nos. sliced 

Cashews - 10-12 Nos. diced 

Fennel seeds (Sombu) - 1 tsp 

Ajiwan seeds (Omum ) - 1tsp 

Lotus flower seeds 10 - 12 nos. 

Dry grapes - 10-12 Nos. 

Ginger Powder - 2 tsp. 

Cucumber seeds (dried) 2 tsp 

Preparation : 

1) In a pan dry roast the wheat flour until its 

colour changes to pink. Remove from fire 

and keep aside. 

2) In the same pan, add ghee. Roast the dried 

fruits such badam, cashews, fennel seeds, 

ajiwan seeds, lotus flower seeds dry 

grapes, cucumber seeds and ginger 

powder. 

3) Add the roasted wheat flour and mix well. 

Remove from fire. Now add the 

powdered sugar and mix well. 

4) If required extra ghee can be added. Say 

2tsps . 

5) Allow it to cool and store in air tight 

container. Can be kept for more than a 

month. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BAD COMPANY 

A rich man had only one 

son. The son fell into the bad 

company. He developed many 

bad habits.

about the habits of his son. He tried his best to 

mend his habits but he could not succeed. 

One day he thought of a plan to teach his son a 

lesson. 

He went to market and purchased some 

fresh apples and a rotten one. He came back 

to his home and called his son. He asked his 

son to put all the apples along with the rotten 

one in the almirah. 

The son did the same. After some days 

father asked his son to bring the apples. As he 

opened the door of almirah he was surprised 

to note that all the apples had become rotten. 

He felt sad. 

At this his father told him to see how one 

rotten apple had spoiled all the rest. In the 

same way one bad companion could spoil all 

others. The father's advice had the desired 

effect. The boy gave up bad company and 

became good again. 

Moral : Better alone than in bad company.

They are far superior and always have been. 

Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. 

If you give her sperm, she will give you a baby. 

If you give her a house, she will give you a home. 

If you give her groceries, she will give you meal. 

If you give her a smile, she will give you her heart. 

She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. 

So if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of shit.

I read this beautiful speech by Sundar 

Pichai who is a senior executive at Google 

and thought of sharing with you the same. At 

a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from 

somewhere and sat on a lady. She started 

screaming out of fear. With a panic stricken 

face and trembling voice, she started 

jumping, with both her hands desperately 

trying to get rid of the cockroach. Her 

reaction was contagious, as everyone in her 

group also got panickly. The lady finally 

managed to push the cockroach away but... it 

landed on another lady in the group. Now, it 

was the turn of the other lady in the group to 

continue the drama. The waiter rushed 

forward to their rescue. In the relay of 

throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the 

waiter. The waiter stood firm, composed 

himself and observed the behavior of the 

cockroach on his shirt. When he was 

confident enough, he grabbed it with his 

fingers and threw it out of the restaurant. 

Sipping my coffee and watching the 

amusement, the antenna of my mind picked 

up a few thoughts and started wondering, was 

the cockroach responsible for their histrionic 

behavior? If so, they why was the waiter not

disturbed? He handled it near 

to perfection, without any 

chaos. It is not the cockroach, 

but the inability of the ladies 

to handle the disturbance 

caused by the cockroach that 

disturbed the ladies. I realized that, it is 

not the shouting of my father or my boss or 

my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability 

to handle the disturbances caused by their 

shouting that disturbs me. It's not the traffic 

jams on the road that disturbs me, bu my 

inability to handle the disturbance caused by 

the traffic jam that disturbs me. More than 

the problem, it's my reaction to the problem 

that creates chaos in my life. 

Lessons learnt from the story :

I should alwyas respond. The women 

reacted, whereas the waiter responded. 

Reactions are always instinctive whereas 

responses are always well thought of, just and 

right to save a situation from going out of 

hands, to avoid cracks in relationship, to 

avoid taking decisions in anger, anxiety,
