GRACE CHOIR PRESENTS:
Once Upon a Parable
May 7 & 8 at all Services
Peace Market, Word of Peace’s popular churchwide rummage sale, is
coming up on June 1 & 2. This is our largest fundraiser of the year, with
proceeds going to support the ministry of Word of Peace.
Donaons & Volunteers Needed!
Donaons of gently used furniture, books, clothes, toys, tools, etc. may be
dropped off on May 30 & 31 from 12-7 PM.
We’ll need all hands on deck to help this be successful so please make
plans to be a part of this fun event! Sign up today on the kiosks in the
Gathering Area.
The sale runs on June 1 from 9 AM-8 PM and June 2 from 9 AM-Noon. Tell
your friends & family about this huge sale and share it on your social media

Naonal Day of Prayer
Thursday, May 4
On Thursday, May 4, we are joining with other churches throughout the
U.S. in Naonal Day of Prayer. We will come together in prayer with all
other Rogers area churches for a prayer service at 7:00 PM on Thursday,
May 4 at the Rogers Community Room, 21201 Memorial Drive. We will
also be collecng non-perishable food donaons for CROSS Food Shelf.
Jesus told the crowds all these things in
parables; without a parable he told them
nothing. This was to fulfill what had been
spoken through the prophet, “I will open
my mouth to speak in parables. I will uer
things hidden from the foundaon of the
world” —Mahew 13:34-45
The Grace Choir musical, Once Upon a
Parable, uses the parables of the Prodigal
Son, the Good Samaritan and the Farmers
and the Vineyard to tell the story of Jesus,
himself. Jesus is played by five different
children, illustrang that we are all
called to be Jesus to the world. The music
is fresh and excing and the dialogue is
brisk and humorous. Don’t miss it!
Three Ministry Leaders on
Study Leave this Summer
Three of our ministry leaders will be taking
summer study leaves beginning in
June. Pastor Rick will be on leave June 9-
September 1 for a concentrated study on
leadership and strategic planning. Michael
Sahlen, Minister of Worship & Music,
will take his leave from June 2-August
24, studying with composion teacher
Dr. Sarah Miller at McPhail Center for
Music. Minister Krisn Skare’s study
leave will be from June 26-September 1
and her focus will be in the areas of grief,
trauma, illness, and Biblical study.
In addion to study, this me away will
be an opportunity for our ministry leaders
to spend me in worship, rest, rela-
onships, and spiritual renewal.
Join us for an hour as we pray for our community’s families, leaders, businesses,
and more!

Word of Peace will be celebrang and blessing one of our favorite
fair weather acvies: riding bikes and motorcycles! We want
to bless and pray for our safety as we take to the streets and
paths this summer.
Bring your bikes, trikes, scooters, and motorcycles to the church
parking lot for a short worship service and community ride. All
are welcome!
“Topics on Tap” is a
monthly discussion group
for adults, designed to be
an informal discussion that
leads to deeper thinking. Along with other curious
and open-minded learners, we’ll gather for a “cold
one” and some good old-fashioned table talk.
Facilitated by Pastor Keith and Word of Peace
member Greg Heinecke, the group meets on the
last Thursday of each month at Guadalajara restaurant
in Rogers.

Summer is almost here! Kids are
out of school and looking for ways
to keep busy. What beer way to
teach them the joy of giving back
to their community than by volunteering
at the CROSS Food Shelf in
Rogers? Providing these volunteer opportunies to kids at a
young age will follow them into their adult years.
CROSS is always in need of volunteers to sort food, clean refrigerators,
organize the birthday gi area, and more.
Please consider reaching out to CROSS for their current needs
and how you and your family can help. They have day, evening
and weekend openings.

Calling all movie buffs! Join Pastor Keith for this
new and innovave study of how faith meets culture.
We will meet at the St. Michael Movie Theater
on Friday, April 28 for the 7pm showing of “The Circle*,”
[PG-13] starring Emma Watson and Tom
Hanks. Join Pastor Keith and others upstairs across
from the bar about 30 minutes prior to the start of
the movie as well as aerwards for discussion and
fellowship.

For the ancient Israelites, the commandments were considered to be words of “heart and
soul” that were bound to their hands and affixed to their foreheads—these powerful
promises were literally in front of their eyes 24/7/365! Nowadays, however, instead of
commandments, our hands and eyes are glued to tweets, status updates, and headlines,
all bathed in that mesmerizing so glow of the screen.

56 percent of children between the ages of 10 to 13 own a smartphone. While that fact alone may come as a shock, it is esmated

Regardless of what you think about our use of technology, screens are probably here to stay. So why not wield that wireless
device for good, not necessity? Did you know that by texng a mere five digits (77977) you can make an impact for the kingdom
of God? In the me it takes you to update your profile or check your fantasy baseball lineup, you can make a donaon to

So as you bond around the warm glow of the campfire this summer, remember the good we’re up to through Word of Peace;

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILY
People in Children, Youth, and Family ministry have an odd job. The other day, I got to sit on the floor
and fill 3,500 Easter eggs while talking to middle school students about video games. The week before
that, it was riddles and 5-minute mysteries.
But we also get to tell the great stories of the faith. We get to sing songs about Jesus with 3 year olds
and 30 year olds. We laugh and play and cry and wonder together. We teach and explore and care for
each other. It’s an odd, wonderful job.
At this me of the year, our “regularly scheduled programing” comes to an end. We move from church
school and confirmaon to Vacaon Bible School and summer camps. Our lessons and conversaons
move from the classroom to the campfire.
So I want to remind you: as our ministries and our lives take us in different direcons over the summer,
please know that we connue to be here for you. If you have quesons or concerns or just want to
come in for a visit, our joy and passion for helping you to share the story of Jesus with your children
and teens connues. We’d love to see you!

WE NEED YOU!
Help make a difference in kid’s lives by volunteering for Vaca-
on Bible School this summer. We need over 200 volunteers to
help with VBS come to life. We have openings for crew leaders
(preschool and elementary), cra leaders, games leaders and
more! See the complete list and a descripon of each on the
registraon form wordofpeace.org/vbs. Many of our volunteers
return year aer year, with each member of their family either
aending or serving at VBS. This year, make it part of your fun
summer tradions and bring the whole family. Whether you
are a working parent, a grandparent, or someone who just likes
to have a great me with great kids – join our crew!

The Rogers Revue is a community talent show with proceeds benefing the Rogers
Area Seniors. If you would like to parcipate, please contact Michael Sahlen at

Minneapolis Area Synod Assembly
The Minneapolis Area Synod Assembly convenes
on May 5 & 6 at Lord of Life Lutheran
Church in Ramsey. Each year at the assembly,
representaves from churches
throughout the Synod gather for worship,
business, keynote speeches and reports
from the naonal church.
The Minneapolis Area Synod consists of
155 missions, ministries and congregaons
of the ELCA. The synod (a word which
means “meeng together”) includes urban,
suburban and rural communies in the
greater metropolitan Minneapolis area.
The Minneapolis Area Synod is the largest
of the ELCA’s synods and home to some of
the largest Lutheran congregaons in the
world.

represenng Word of Peace at this year’s
assembly.

like: “Summer Nights”, Beauty School Dropout”, and “You’re
the One That I Want”. Bus leaves Rogers Community Room
(21201 Memorial Drive) at 10:15 AM. Arriving at the theatre,
we will be seated for a gourmet lunch before the show. Grease
is 2 hours, 10 minutes long and includes one 20-minute intermission.
