Located in Te Rapa, Hamilton, ESC is in a central location with half the NZ population within a 200km radius. The administration 

and the main distribution centre are incorporated in a purpose built 25,000 square foot warehouse that provides 

room to handle our large product range. 

ESC employs 30 full time and part time staff. By providing work for an in-house disabled persons group, ESC has been 

able to buy in bulk and package efficiently, while providing meaningful work for society’s more vulnerable people. 

Sales Team 

The company has a sales team that comprises of regional wholesale representatives, business development managers 

as well as product specialists. The sales team is based throughout New Zealand.

Fan Selection Guide 

Room Size 

Fan Type 

Calculate room volume to determine fan 

size required. 

• Length (A) x Width (B) x Height (H) 

e.g. 2.5mtr x 3mtr x 2.4mtr = 18m³hr 

This is the volume of a room. 

Recommended Air Changes 

• Multiply the volume of the room by 

the recommended air changes 

(Select from Table). 

e.g. 18m³hr x 10 (bathroom) = 180m³hr 

required to be moved. 

• Allowances are also needed to be 

made when ducting is added. A rule of 

thumb is to allow for a 30%-40% 

performance loss of the fan. This 

needs to be added to the performance 

required when selecting. 

e.g. 180m³hr x 40% =252m³hr. 

Ducting length, layout and bends also 

reduce performance of the fan. 

• Bathrooms: The regulations require 

a fan that extracts a minimum capacity 

of 25 litres per second when installed. 

• Regulatory flow rates are considered 

minimum requirements. In most New 

Zealand homes this would not be sufficient 

performance to remove excess 

moisture at a satisfactory rate. 

• This is where the “Recommended air 

changes per hour” calculation is utilised. 

A calculation that works on replacing the 

air in a room a certain 

“recommended” times per hour e.g. a 

bathroom is 10 times per hour. This would 

mean the air is completely replaced every 

6 minutes (60 minutes ÷ 10 = 6 minutes). 

With an average shower of 10 -12 minutes 

the air would be changed 2 to 2.5 times in 

the duration of the shower. 

Note: Select a fan that moves more than 

the amount of the calculated air. (It is better 

to move more air rather than less.) 

Location 

Decide where is the most suitable position 

to locate the fan. These locations can be 

determined by what access you have to 

do the install. 

• Inline is the quietest and usually fastest 

to install in the ceiling cavity with grille 

above the shower. 

• Ceiling is an option when the ceiling 

cavity is too small to enable servicing of 

the motor at a later date. Outside Zone 1. 

• Wall is when there is no ceiling cavity. 

Outside Zone 1. 

• Low Voltage is when the fan is mounted 

directly above the shower within the wet 

zone (Zone 1). Zone 1 is the wet zone 

where a Low Voltage Fan MUST be used. 

• Any fan model can be used in Zone 2 

and Zone 3.

• Axial Fan: A fan blade that spins on 

an axis. Like a Cessna plane’s blades 

are thin and on an axis. Designed for 

short ducting distance. These blades are 

normally in a wall, ceiling mount fan and in 

an Inline fan. 

• Mixed Flow Fan: A mix of two types 

of fans, on a centre hub. Blades overlap. 

Designed for medium distance. Usually 

quietest decibel level. These blades are 

usually in an Inline fan. 

• Centrifugal Fan: A large centre fan 

and blades on outside. Looks like a jet 

engine. Designed for long distance. Mid 

noise level. This blade type is usually in 

large Inline fans or in a side vented fan 

scenario to enable it to be ceiling 

mounted.

Fan Style 

Noise Level 

• Ceiling or wall mount fan: This fan 

can be mounted on the bathroom ceiling 

or wall outside the wet zone. 

Accessories are not supplied. 

• Ceiling mount fan pack: This model 

can be mounted on the ceiling inside the 

wet zone (shower cubicle). Low voltage 

fan, ducting, grille, transformer and fastenings 

are supplied. 

• Through wall fan: This is a fan pack 

that can be mounted through the room 

wall outside the wet zone. The pack includes 

fan, 375mm of rigid aluminium duct 

and gravity grille. 

• Inline fan pack: These can be mounted 

in the ceiling cavity. Often this is a quieter 

option as the motor is mounted in the 

ceiling away from the bathroom. The 

pack includes inline fan PVC duct, inlet 

and outlet grilles. 

• Inline fan: An option purchased as 

a stand alone unit when an application 

requires a larger fan than supplied in a 

kit or a scenario where multiple inlets are 

required.

Applications 

VK fans are applied for supply and exhaust 

ventilation systems of commercial,

Compatible with Ø 100, 125, 150, 200, 

250 and 315 mm round air ducts. Due to 

the corrosion-resistant durable plastic 

casing, these models are the perfect solution 

for the installation in exhaust ventilation 

systems in humid premises such as 

bathrooms, kitchens etc. 

Design 

The casing is made of high-quality durable 

plastic. The fans are equipped with waterproof 

terminal boxes. 

Motor 

A centrifugal impeller with backward 

curved blades is powered by a single 

phase external rotor motor. The motor 

is equipped with self-resetting overheating 

protection. 

The motor is equipped with ball bearings 

for a long service life designed for at least 

40 000 operating hours. 

For precise features, safe operation and 

low noise, each impeller is dynamically 

balanced during assembly. Motor protection 

rating is IP44. 

Speed control 

Smooth or step speed control with a 

thyristor or autotransformer speed controller. 

Several fans may be connected 

to one speed controller provided that the 

total power and operating current do not 

exceed the rated speed controller parameters. 

Mounting 

The fan is mounted in the ceiling with 

mounting brackets included into delivery 

set or with PVK holders, specially ordered 

accessory. The fan can be mounted at any 

angle. Electric connection and installation 

shall be performed in compliance with 

the manual and the wiring diagram on the 

terminal box.

Motor 

• Single-phased double-speed motors 

with low energy demand. 

• Designed for continuous operation. 

• Equipped with thermal overheating 

protection. 

• The ball bearings extend motor service 

life up to 40,000 hours. 

• The inlet spigot is equipped with a 

collector to enable smooth air inlet to the 

fan. The hemispheric impeller shape and 

specially profiled blades increase the air 

flow circular velocity and provide higher 

pressure and capacity as compared to 

standard axial fans. 

• The diffuser, the specially profiled impeller 

and the directing vanes at outlet from 

the fan casing distribute air flow in such 

a way as to attain the best combination 

of high performance, enhanced pressure 

and low noise. 


• The double-speed motors are controlled 

with a built-in switch. 


• The fans are suitable for mounting at 

any angle and any point of the system. 

• Several fans may be installed inside one 

system. e.g. 

• Parallel mounting to increase air flow. 

• Series mounting to increase operating 

pressure.
