SC verdict in Darshan Masih case
� Workers liable to repay outstanding peshgis.
� Emergency loans upto Rs 5,000 per family not recoverable from workers who
resume duty.
� No peshgi system in future.
� Labour to return to work, employers not to use force to bring them back, no worker to
be forcibly retained at work provided he gets a court certificate.
� Payment of wages as per agreed schedule, no deduction for rain damage.
� Jamadar/Jamadarni system abolished.
� Employer not to force women/children to work. If they work voluntarily, employer not
to be blamed. In case of women/children being forced to work by their family head
the latter should be prosecuted.
