Welcome to <strong>ELMS</strong>!<br />
Growing up with wonderful wooden puzzles made<br />
by an uncle, gave Betsy Stuart a lifelong addiction.<br />
When she started this business nearly 20 years<br />
ago she decided to make it her business to create<br />
unique and beautiful puzzles that would entertain<br />
and delight the puzzling community. Today <strong>ELMS</strong><br />
makes the highest quality puzzles in the marketplace,<br />
using artwork by some of the best known artists in<br />
the country.<br />
Each specially trained cutter crafts each puzzle,<br />
one piece at a time. They take great pride in<br />
designing all sorts of silhouettes that are cut into each<br />
puzzle to give you additional surprises as you put it<br />
together. The cutters have lots of cutting tricks and<br />
we are always coming up with new ones to make your<br />
puzzling more fun. These future heirlooms are well<br />
worth sharing with your family and friends.<br />
This catalog is a very small sample of what we<br />
have available. We have more artists and many<br />
more images by all of our featured artists. If you<br />
want to see additional images by artist or category,<br />

All of our puzzles are cut to order. We can offer any<br />
of the images in our catalogs and supplements in any<br />
size to accomodate your tastes and budgets. We can<br />
make a puzzle as small or as large as you want. We<br />
can also put an irregular edge or a special painted<br />
edge on any puzzle.<br />

Our 2007-2008 catalog ushers <strong>ELMS</strong> <strong>Puzzles</strong> into it’s 20th year. It has been produced with great pride and at the same<br />
time with great reflection by the staff and family of <strong>ELMS</strong>.<br />
Our fearless leader, Betsy Stuart, aka “Queen B”, passed away August 31st, 2007 after a long and very courageous<br />
battle against cancer. Right up until her passing, Betsy worked on all aspects of <strong>ELMS</strong>, including the planning of this<br />
very catalog.<br />
<strong>ELMS</strong> <strong>Puzzles</strong> came into being after a lifelong love of puzzles caused Betsy to purchase a scroll saw as a gift for her<br />
husband, Fred. While he did not take to the cutting of puzzle pieces, Betsy certainly did and so began a wooden jigsaw<br />
puzzle company named <strong>ELMS</strong> (after Betsy’s initials, Elizabeth Lee McShane Stuart). Featured in local as well as major<br />
national media, <strong>ELMS</strong> <strong>Puzzles</strong> has lived up to its reptutation of quality, innovation, and heirloom puzzles. All of this took<br />
place with Betsy living and working with cancer. Her strength, courage, and humor gave us all pause to appreciate time<br />
spent with family, friends, and our beloved pets.<br />
A local artist, who is also employed by <strong>ELMS</strong>, Donna Lacey Derstine, created the vibrant, flowering meadow pictured<br />
below. Betsy’s Maine meadow gave her great pleasure in it’s planning, the working of the soil, and in the colorful reward<br />
of it’s flowers year after year.<br />
Please enjoy “Betsy’s Meadow” as a tribute to Betsy’s love of color, beauty, and life. It will be a challenging and fun<br />
puzzle on it’s own merit, or for those of you who knew Betsy, we will offer a specially cut puzzle filled with special pieces<br />
that reflect Betsy’s life.<br />
We are dedicating the 2007-2008 catalog and this particular puzzle to Betsy. <strong>ELMS</strong> will donate 10% from each “Betsy’s<br />
Meadow” purchased to the American Cancer Society.<br />

Our rental club is unique. You can join<br />
the club and rent a fabulous <strong>ELMS</strong> hand<br />
cut puzzle anytime you feel like puzzling.<br />
They are terrific for any gatherings,<br />
vacations, holidays and puzzle parties.<br />
For a one time membership fee of $75<br />
you receive our rental inventory of over<br />
800 puzzles. Whenever you feel like a<br />
puzzle give us a call and it’s delivered to<br />
your door. Keep the puzzle for up to three<br />
months. When you are done, you can mail<br />
it back or we have the puzzle picked up.<br />
Rentals start at $40 plus freight. It’s that<br />
simple. No minimums, no hassles. Give<br />
us a call and start renting right away.<br />
Members also receive a 10% discount on<br />
custom puzzles and are eligible for our<br />
Used Puzzle Sales in January and July.<br />
