2016 ANNUAL REPORT PROJECT RED 01

02 PROJECT RED 2016 ANNUAL REPORT

Dear Friends,
Project RED celebrated its FIFTH anniversary
in 2016! And what a special year it was!
When I decided to start a little “pilot
project” back in 2011, I had no idea that
things would grow and develop so quickly.
Not only has God provided the precise
amount of financial resources we have
needed (and always at the perfect time);
His Holy Spirit has truly moved among the
broken and hurting families we work with.
Many of these stories of brokenness have
become stories of hope.
Simply put, He has put together an
interdependent community. This means
that it’s not just the beneficiary families
depending on the donations or services
they receive; our staff, volunteers and
even many of you depend on the spiritual
support RED has to offer.
As we head into RED’s sixth year of
existence with great expectations, I want to
thank you, truly, for having chosen to be
part of this community in 2016.
With love and hope,
Kara Wilson
Our statement of
FAITH
We believe in the one God and Father, maker
of heaven and earth. We believe in Christ, His
resurrected Son, our Lord and Savior. We believe
in the Holy Spirit, the manifestation of the living
God in us. We believe that Christ was crucified
and buried, and that on the third day He rose.
We believe in the forgiveness of sins, and in this
free gift of salvation He offers us.
We believe that we believers are the body of
the church, and that we must go to the ends of
the earth to share the sweet message of Christ
in word and deed.
We believe that Jesus instructs us to care for
the orphans and the widows, for the poor and
oppressed. It is from these instructions that
we joyfully carry out His kingdom work in El
Salvador, seeking no glory for ourselves, but
only for His mighty name.
What isRED?
We exist to bring
HOPE
to the
least of these by protecting
children’s basic
human rights,
while educating and
empowering families inEl Salvador.
08 PROJECT RED 2016 ANNUAL REPORT

REINTEGRATION
into a Healthy Environment
We provide for the basic physical and
material needs of the children and families
we serve. Simultaneously, we facilitate
positive emotional environments in the
homes, setting the stage for individual
transformation and lasting change.
EDUCATION:
Access & Opportunities
Because access to education in El
Salvador is limited, we are able to provide
life-changing learning opportunities for
children, teens and adults and entire
family groups.
DEVELOPMENT:
Holistic Transformation
Due to the complexity and diversity of the
problems faced by the families at RED,
we create and execute individualized
intervention plans in order to better
the physical, economic, spiritual and
emotional conditions of each family.
grant from the Gloria de Kriete Foundation,
the amount of $110,000. These funds will
be used to build an emergency children’s
shelter for abused children.
Throughout the entire year, RED was
blessed to receive the wonderful and
encouraging visits of many supporters
through Vision Trips!
June & November: Seven couples
were married at RED’s office as part of
our spiritual development and family
strengthening program.
Meet the
GUINEA
F a m i l y
When Gerson’s parents died as a result of AIDS, he was sent to a special orphanage
for children carrying the HIV virus when he was just a toddler. When the new law
for child protection came into effect about 10 years later, he was sent to live with
his older brother, Hector. At that time, Héctor was a single 21-year old who was
barely making ends meet. He was not equipped to take on this responsibility.
When Project RED met the brothers in 2013, Gerson had recently left the
orphanage, and their situation was dire. While there was a great deal of love and
affection between the brothers, there was very little hope for a future beyond
poverty. Their own will power, along with the support of Project RED, made it
possible for them to strive forward and change their situation.
One day, a violent storm tore the roof off of their small, make-shift room. All of
their earthly belongings were drenched, and many of their things were ruined.
Meanwhile in the United States on that very day, a donation was pledged for
the brothers to receive a brand new home of their own. It was a confirmation to
Hector and Gerson that God always provides for our needs in His perfect timing.
Thanks to the high efforts made by this Hector and Gerson, along with the holistic
support of Project RED in the areas of education, emotional/psychological
support, construction and more, they have chosen a path that is leading them
out of poverty.
Hector married Margarita in 2014 and their daughter, Daniela, was born in 2015.
The two brothers have now become a family of four. Thanks to the generosity of
several donors at Project RED’s annual “A Night of RED,” Hector is now working to
start raising dairy cows. His goal is to start his own business.
Hector leads RED’s men’s support group and is providing counsel and peer
support for the new men in the program. When the family first started at Project
RED in 2013, we could not have imagined all that was in store for them.
This story of hope, and many others, characterize what RED is all about:
deep and lasting transformation through holistic intervention and authentic
relationships---relationships among family members, with sponsors, staff, and
most importantly, through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
