f you're an avid follower
Iof live music and
songwriters in the local
area then the name Heidi
Browne won't be new to you.
Heidi has been entertaining
audiences both locally and
abroad, and featuring on
national and local radio for a
while now. She demonstrates
storytelling songs and multiinstrumental
abilities, mixed
with a blend of humour and
class. New audiences are
captivated by her one-off
personality and gripped by
original music, which has
the unusual quality of
feeling familiar to the
listener by the time they've
heard the rst chorus.
Heidi Browne
Michaela Wylde Writes ...
Heidi, thank you
for taking time
out of your busy
recording and gig
schedule to talk to Shrop
Rocks. You've written a
lot of fantastic songs,
what have you found
inspires you to write?
I think as a song writer
you need to have your
eyes and ears open at all
times to feelings and
ideas. Anything can
inspire a song, whether
it's an inside or outside
source. I can be inspired
by a mood, a weather
condition, a change in
life. I tend to write in
moments of quiet and
snatch these
opportunities to write.
You have to go off into a
sideways space and tap
into the bubbles of ideas
that are waiting to be
released.
Of everything you've
written, is there one
song you are particularly
proud of?
One song I have never
dropped from the set
over my many years of
performing is 'This
Wandering Heart'. It's
got a lot of light and
shade, interesting
chords and sophisticated
melody. I wrote it 10
years ago and I think it
might be my best song.
If you are able to
pinpoint one moment so
far in your music career,
what's been a particular
'high' for you?
Meeting Terry Wogan
was amazing. I was
playing Elton John's
piano which is in the
lobby of BBC Radio 2
where I was rehearsing
for a live session with
Thea Gilmore. We were
on air in 45 minutes and
I saw the reection of
someone in the shiny
piano, turned around
and it was Terry with a
tray of confectionary.
My heart literally
stopped. We played live
on his show and he put
us all at ease. An
absolute charmer. The
rst time I heard my
name announced on
radio was also amazing,
I went cold and felt
terried and elated at
the same time.
