My Name is
“Fatma”...!
Street children phenomenon is society destroying ... yet,
do we ever think of how they feel towards society?!
An irresistible smile of a little kid was approaching with a bunch
of napkin packs. She offered some for a pound and went away; a
moment as such would remain carved in the heart. Fatma is her
name; a street child is her case. She left, leaving thoughts to wonder
how many female and male Fatmas are out there and when will we
wake up to the fact that they are humans too!

a bright life asking for mercy smile.
Her smile is full of hope for a better
tomorrow and eyes full of joy, laughter
and spirit. Feeling sorry for such children
would make you think, think about your
children, your family, your cousins. This is when tears of
sorrow and sadness would leak through your cheeks.
Children like her have forgotten all about their purity
and childhood in search for survival. Children like
her get abused everyday verbally, physically and
mentally for a penny, a dim or an old piece of bread.
What about child rights?! What about their reasons
ending up in streets?! What about their lives?! What
about society’s actions?? What about HUMANITY??
Every one of us has at least met one homeless adult
or youth in his life; but ... what about children?!! Have
you thought about them? Did you feel pity for them?
Lots of questions wandering in my head and definitely
questions that could strike yours too ...
Pretty little boys and girls, different ages, different smiles,
different hair colors, different origins yet same destiny!
People of different ages were asked about street
children. The majority claimed “organizations should be
established”. However, others had different harsh opinions
and only few actually thought of them as humans.
Most of the ladies who happened to be mothers
shared equivalent pity towards such kids. They fear
the society’s future, how will it survive with kids like
them wandering in the streets. Doaa, a mother of a 12
year old girl, “To fear them approach is the least I could
feel negatively”, she stated aggressively. Dr. Maha
Bazan, a 51 year old mother, mother of 2 adults and a
9 year old kid; agreed with Doaa. She believes street
children are supposed to be executed, vanishing their
phenomena, then renewably establishing the society.
As speaking to Bazan, her husband Mr. Hazem, a
military man made an entrance. He introduced briefly
a solution to the phenomena. As a military man, his
sense and vision to the society differs, suggesting
the old society concepts “organizations”. “I have
