Tetrathlon
Two of our students, Richard O Donoghue,
Templederry (TY student) and Sean Ryan,
Borrisoleigh (Leaving Cert 2014) were part of the
Senior Boys team who came third in the Irish Pony
Club Tetrathlon Championships on the 2nd,3rd & 4th
August 2014. Sean Ryan rides with Golden Vale and
Richard O Donoghue with Nenagh. They formed a
team with Matthew O’ Meara (Duhallow) and Chris
Oakley (Ward Individual). The four events were
shooting, swimming, riding and running. Sean
finished joint 1st in the riding and Richards strong
running, resulted in 11th overall, aiding the team to
claim third place overall.
1 st and 2 nd Year
Camogie Blitz
On Wednesday the 17th of September, the 1st
and 2nd year girls competed in the Tipperary
schools camogie blitz in the Ragg camogie
grounds against Nenagh College, Borrisokane,
Cahir and Newport. The girls competed well but
unfortunately victory did not come their way. A
strong Borrisokane team won the final. They look
forward to the Munster Junior Championship that
will begin shortly.

JERSEY DAY IN AID OF
SOPHIE
On the 5 th of September a jersey
day was held in aid of Sophie’s
Journey. Students donated in aid
of Sophie's Journey. Sophie was
a young girl who had a rare
incurable disease. A total of €560
was raised from the jersey day in
the hope of building a new house
to store her machines more
efficiently. It was a fantastic
charitable, endeavour, striving to
prolong a young girl's life.
Unfortunately, Sophie passed
away shortly after the fundraiser.
Her
inspiring journey can still be
followed on Facebook at Sophie's
journey.
Also in aid of Sophie's Journey we
conducted the Ice Bucket
Challenge on three of our
teachers. Each student cast their
vote for €1. After the votes were
counted the whole school joined
the TY's to watch Ms.
McCormack, Mr. Buckley and Mr.
McCarthy do their ice bucket
challenge. Great fun was had by
all and most importantly an overall
total of €766 was raised
for Sophie.
Transition Years went to Caffrey’s
Chocolate Warehouse. This was
the mini version of their business.
They got to see the journey of the
bean to the bar of chocolate. They
were given the opportunity to
design their own chocolate pack.
Later the group went shopping in
Dundrum shopping centre. They
DEVIL’S BIT CLIMB
DEVIL’S BIT CLIMB
As a part of the group bonding
programme, Transition Years
walked to the Devil’s Bit and back
on the 1st of September.
Ms. Cahill, Ms. Gorey and all the
students took off at nine o’clock
from the school. After climbing the
Bit the group headed for home.
After many breaks the group
arrived back at quarter to four.
With many aches and pains they
all managed to arrive home in one
piece. It was a great achievement
as they had completed a 13 mile
walk/climb.
TRIP TO TRAMORE
Transition Years headed to
Tramore after the Junior
Certificate Results.
Their first stop was to Freedom
Surf School. Here they received
wetsuits, and were given
instructions about how to surf and
how to react in case of an
emergency. The instructors spoke
Irish to the Transition Years for
the first half of the lesson. Even
the teachers, Ms. Gorey and Ms.
Rowe took to the waves. After
over an hour in the water the
group left for Waterford City. After
the Viking walking tour and
Medieval museum the T.Y’s had
some time for shopping.
This was very successful and
encouraged team-bonding among
the T.Y group.
CAFFREY’S CHOCOLATE FACTORY
As a part of the Transition Year
Business class, Transition Years
went to Dublin to see how a
business is run. This was to give
them an idea of how to set up
their own mini-companies.
SciFest Winners

Freestyle Sports Competition
Transition year held a freestyle
sports competition. Students from
all years participated in hope to win
the prize. Performances were
collaged into one video, for the
whole school to see. The winner
was chosen by a judging panel of 4
teachers, Ms. Crowe, Mr. Halpin,
Ms. Duignan, and Ms. Gorey. 5 th
year Jerry Kelly from Borrisoleigh
was the winner and was presented
with the €50 voucher prize. Thanks
to all the students who participated
in this event. It was a great
success.
1 st Year Hurling
The 1 st year boys took part in a
hurling blitz in Dr. Morris Park. They
played against Clonmel High
school, Scoil Mhuire Thurles and
Thurles C.B.S. The boys showed
great heart and won all their
matches. They look forward to more
success with their school.
Thursday the 23/10/2014 the 1 st
years won their section of the
county league beating Borrisokane,
Ballingarry and Rockwell.
Munster U18 ½ Hurling
St. Joseph’s College Borrisoleigh ,
claimed their maiden victory in this
year’s Dr.Harty “C” competition
following a very comprehensive
victory over local rivals Nenagh
Vocational School, in very warm
Dolla. Although the scoreline of 8-
18 to 6 points rather flatters the
victors they did not have it all their
own way and were indeed very
sloppy in possession and with their
finishing particularly in the opening
half. They lead 2-09 to 5 points at
the interval and were far from
comfortable as Nenagh Vocational
were giving their opponents lots of
questions to answer particularly by
applying a sweeper role in their
defence. However St. Joseph’s
managed to up the anti-following
their half time team talk and a quick
fire 2-3 inside the opening twelve
minutes of the second half
ultimately guaranteed victory as
their forwards really began to find a
clinical streak and take full
advantage of the gaping holes in
the Nenagh defence. They will now
face St.Colemans college Middleton
in their final group game where a
victory will ensure top spot in the
group and secure automatic
qualification through to the quarter
finals of the competition.
U16 ½ Hurling
St. Joseph’s College Borrisoleigh,
have claimed their maiden victory in
Munster Post –Primary school’s
hurling, when their u16 ½ side
defeated St.Pauls of Waterford in
relatively comprehensive fashion.
The game ended on a score line of
6-24 to 2 – 7 in favour of the North
Tipp School. The game was played
in exquisite conditions for the time
of year, in the Clonmel sports field
and in truth it was a relatively one –
sided affair in terms of a contest. St.
Joseph’s had local boy Jerry Kelly
to thank for being their leading
marksman on the day as he
finished with a personal tally of 3-11
from his sides final total. The men
in navy and blue will now go on to
face Nenagh College in the next
round of the competition and will
fancy their chances of progression
when these two sides meet. St.
Joseph’s victory was spearheaded
by a very potent attack that featured
some very notable performances
from the following players, the afore
mention Jerry Kelly, Adam Hogan,
Conor Keane, Robert Delaney and
Sean Flaherty. All of whom
registered their name on the score
board with some finding their range
on one than one occasion. Such
was their dominance that all six of
their starting forwards managed to
find the target along with one of
their subs which bares positive
signs for the team going forward
considering the Borrisoleigh School
were short seven players from their
complete panel on the day.
St.Joseph’s: 1. Tim McCutcheon
2.Aidan Coffey 3.Aaron Reid
4.Seamus O’Farrell 5.Kevin Cleary
6. Eoin Grace 7. Jack O’Meara 8.
Sean Flaherty 9. Mathew Ryan 10.
Billy Seymour 11. Jerry Kelly 12.
Conor Looby 13. Conor Keane 14.
