6 12:30 Fridays Series 14 September. Sylvestre plays Brahms. The Op. 5 Sonata and a newly discovered Albumblatt are included on Stéphan Sylvestre’s recital. 21 September. Poulenc, Previn, and P.D.Q. Elizabeth Gowen (bassoon), with Allison Wiebe (piano) and Ian Franklin (oboe). 28 September. Kinton plays Beethoven. Leslie Kinton performs the sonatas Op. 10 No. 2, and Op. 111. 12 October. The Organ. Our distinguished alumnus John Vandertuin, among Canada’s foremost concert artists, in a rare recital on the Studio 18 Casavant organ. Limited seating in Studio 18, with video simulcast to von Kuster Hall. 19 October. Baroque Song with Guitar. Vicki St. Pierre (mezzo soprano) and Lucas Harris (guitar and lute) present music from the 16th to the 18th century, on period instruments. 26 October. New Orford Quartet. After a performance of Jacques Hetu’s First Quartet, Stéphan Sylvestre joins for Dvorak’s Piano Quintet. 2 November. Aaron Hodgson, trumpet. Introducing our newest full-time colleague, performing new works he has commissioned. 9 November. Latin American Persuasions. Fiona Wilkinson (flute) and friends, with the premier of London composer Oliver Whitehead’s Excitations for flute and piano, along with companion pieces inspired by Latin America. 16 November. Tafelmusik. A recital highlighting members of Canada’s most illustrious early-music ensemble, on period instruments. This series features an eclectic mix of faculty performers and guest artists, many of whom also conduct masterclasses as part of their visit. 23 November. Duo Concertante. The Juno Awardwinning duo Nancy Dahn (violin) and Timothy Steeves (piano), in a recital celebrating Canadian music. 30 November. Red Chamber. Led by Mei Han (zheng), this Chinese plucked-string quartet creates a unique sound while performing a repertoire that spans centuries, including transcriptions from the Tang Dynasty (618-907), to modern compositions. 11 January. Canadian Song. Anita Krause-Wiebe (mezzo soprano) and Melanie Conly (soprano), with Peter Longworth (piano). 18 January. All Poulenc. On the 50th anniversary of his death, chamber music performed by Sophie Roland (mezzo soprano), Jana Starling (clarinet), Stéphan Sylvestre (piano), and Thomas Wiebe (‘cello). 25 January. Remembering Sonja. A concert to celebrate the life and contributions (including as producer of 12:30 Fridays) of Sonja Behrens, who passed away last year, featuring former students and colleagues. Please note: Due to anticipated construction of a new Music Building, the series will end in January 2013 and return in the fall of 2014.
