Ia Orana, Welcome…
Verdant mountains rising up from turquoise coral fringed lagoons, French chic and a touch of
luxury all contribute to making The Islands of Tahiti irresistible. What we often simply refer to
as Tahiti is actually five archipelagos known as French Polynesia, officially still part of France.
Tahiti is the largest of the Society Islands, which also includes the gorgeous islands of Moorea
and Bora Bora. The iconic beauty of French Polynesia is well known. Coral reefs, abundant with
marine life, protect impossibly blue shallow lagoons – perfect places for swimming, watersports
or simply admiring from an idyllic stretch of beach. Make a dream come true and find yourself
in an overwater bungalow, waking up in luxury and diving into warm turquoise waters straight
from your own deck.
The Islands of Tahiti offer experiences that will last a lifetime - Enjoy!

Good to know
Travel Tips
French Polynesia is also known as The Islands of Tahiti. There are 118 islands comprising French Polynesia, of which Tahiti
is the main island and the location of the capital city of Papeete. Faa’a International Airport is located on the island of Tahiti
approximately 5 kilometres west of Papeete.
Air Tahiti Nui is the international airline to The Islands of Tahiti. It offers direct flights between Auckland and Papeete. Air
New Zealand also offers direct flights from Auckland to Papeete.
International flights arrive on the island of Tahiti. Due to crossing the International Dateline, most flights from Auckland
arrive the day before they depart. Holiday packages in French Polynesia will usually require one night in Papeete before
travelling to another island the following morning. Most passengers returning to New Zealand will require one night in
Papeete prior to departure, as flights leave early in the morning.
Air Tahiti is a private, domestic airline which links all five archipelagos. Travel between some islands, such as Tahiti to
Moorea, can be made by high-speed catamaran.
We recommend booking the same hotel chain throughout your visit, as ‘Island Combo’ specials are available. We
also recommend booking transfers throughout your visit as many resorts are located on islets within the lagoon, only
accessible by boat.
Passports & Visas
New Zealand passport holders do not currently require a visa for a stay as a tourist of up to three months but must hold
a passport with six months validity beyond the date of departure from French Polynesia. If you are a non-New Zealand
passport holder please check your visa requirements with the appropriate Embassy or Consular office.
Currency
The local currency is the French Pacific Franc (XPF). There are plenty of ATMs and banks in Tahiti however access can
be difficult in the outer islands. Major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, boutiques and other tourist
establishments. We do recommend you carry some local currency for smaller purchases.
Note: NZD$1 = 75 XPF approximately.
Pricing & Seasonality
For all hotels on The Islands of Tahiti a compulsory local tax of approximately 150XPF per person per night must be paid
directly to the hotels.
While seasons may vary for each resort, generally speaking, the following seasons apply:
High Season: 1 May - 31 October & 19 December - 10 January
Low Season: Rest of the year
Seasonal surcharges, supplements, compulsory meals and/or transfers may apply during high season or at particular
properties.
Climate
The Islands of Tahiti enjoy an even climate year-round with daytime temperatures around 28-30°C, dropping slightly in the
evening. The weather is warmer and more humid from November through to May and drier and cooler from June until
October. Year round, the sun rises between 5 and 6am and sets between 5.30 and 7pm. There is very little difference
between high and low tide in Tahiti.
HONEYMOON
Gift
Tahiti is a true Honeymoon destination & many
hotels offer free gifts to Honeymooners. Look
for this red heart throughout the brochure to
identify the resorts offering gifts. Honeymoon
gifts range from a bottle of champagne on arrival,
to sarongs and t-shirts, massages and romantic
dinners. Contact us for a full list of gifts on offer
at the resorts. Not all Honeymoon gifts can be
combined with resort specials so our Specialist
Tahiti Consultants will guide you.
Bonus
Many resorts throughout French Polynesia offer
discounts depending on your length of stay.
These range from free nights to free room
upgrades, free meals, combined island room
discounts and long stay room discounts.
Look for this blue bonus logo throughout the
brochure to identify the resorts where bonus
deals are on offer. Contact us for the latest deals
available at your preferred resorts.
Why not combine a stay on a high volcanic island (such as Tahiti
Moorea or Bora Bora) with a few nights on a low lying atoll (such as
Rangiroa or Tikehau)?
Island hopping is easy with an Air Tahiti airpass.
If you’re looking for untouched beaches and
stunning lagoons, head to Huahine or Maupiti.
For amazing snorkelling and diving experiences
head to the Tuamotu Archipelago.
Tahiti does not have to be
expensive! There is a great
range of accommodation styles
to suit a variety of budgets.
Pensions are the best way to
see authentic Polynesia. They
give you the unique opportunity
to interact with local people.
For a truly cultural and “off
the beaten track” experience,
visit the majestic Marquesas
Archipelago. It is also the resting
place of Paul Gauguin
The Islands of Tahiti are wonderful for
families who love spending time together.
Tahiti
Tahiti
Tahiti is the largest of the 118 islands and atolls that comprise French Polynesia and
flights to Tahiti arrive into its international airport, Faa’a. Papeete is the capital city and the
commercial hub of French Polynesia. Papeete has a colourful market offering local food,
hand-made crafts and souvenirs as well as a range of pearl shops, bars and restaurants.
There is so much more to Tahiti than Papeete - majestic valleys, rich archaeological sites,
striking volcanic peaks and a stunning turquoise lagoon.
Tahiti is an island of hidden treasures!
Our Must Dos in Tahiti
• Browse the many pearl shops of Papeete and find your own precious Tahitian
Black Pearl.
• Wake up early to witness the locals selling their fresh fish and vegetables at the
Papeete central market. Then stick around to do some souvenir shopping
of your own!
• Visit Taravao plateau on the Presqu’île - named Little Normandy due to its
unique microclimate.
• Hire a car and drive around the island - there’s only one road so you can’t get lost!
• Visit the museum of Tahiti and discover Polynesia’s mythical past.
• Take a hike in the Papeeno valley and discover hidden waterfalls and amazing views.
• Enjoy a sunset cocktail at the Pink Coconut bar at Marina Taina with gorgeous views
across to Moorea.
• Mix with the locals in the Paofai Gardens and watch the Vaa’a canoeists training in
the lagoon.
• Venture down the stunning west coast to Teahupoo and see THE wave.
• Eat at the local food vans, Roulottes, located at the waterfront in downtown Papeete.
Bora Bora
Bora Bora
A 50 minute flight from Tahiti you will find the stunning island of Bora Bora, undoubtedly
the world’s most beautiful lagoon. It is known as the Romance Island and home of the
famous overwater bungalows.
Your first glimpses of the amazing colours of the Bora Bora lagoon are on arrival at the
Motu Mute airport which is located on a motu (a small sandy island). The majority of hotels
and resorts are built on motus in the lagoon surrounding the main island, with Mount
Otemanu peak as its centrepiece.
The array of blue colours in the lagoon are mesmerising and the waters warm
and clear.
Bora Bora truly is a paradise!
Our Must Dos in Bora Bora
• Snorkel or dive with the lemon sharks, outside the Bora Bora reef.
• Take a 4WD tour of the main island and learn about Bora Bora’s WW2 history.
• Enjoy a romantic beach dinner.
• Take a jet-ski tour around the island - one of the best ways to see the blues of
Bora Bora’s lagoon.
• Hire a bike in the main village of Vaitape and discover the roadside snack bars and
trinket shops.
• Take a snorkelling trip to the Coral Garden to witness an amazing abundance of fish.
• Have your breakfast delivered in a canoe to your overwater bungalow.
• Drop in for a drink at the famous sandy - bottomed Bloody Mary’s Restaurant.
• Visit Matira Beach with its turquoise, shallow waters and white sand.
