Acting Showcase 

Class of 2009

I am delighted to welcome you to RSAMD’s 

Showcase 2009. 

Today you will see the work of this year’s 

graduate group from the BA Acting 

programme. They are an excellent group of 

students and we in the School of Drama will 

miss them tremendously when they leave us. 

However, in leaving us, they are embarking on 

their chosen careers, and we are extremely 

proud to have been part of their journey 

towards those careers. 

Throughout their training we have worked with 

them as professionals-in-training. Our students 

and our staff form a community of professional 

peers and these graduating students already 

view themselves as working actors. To date 

they have worked in a range of production 

projects for stage, screen and mobile media, 

and have worked with many professional 

theatre companies. They have already a real 

connection to the professional performance 

industries; as a consequence, they are eager to 

enter them fully. 

Your attendance here today is a vital final part 

of their training, as you provide them with 

interaction with an audience of their external 

professional peers and potential employers. I 

thank you most sincerely for coming and for 

your support. We are enormously proud of all 

our students and wish them great good fortune 

in their careers.

the profession many of them have already

This autumn they performed in two 

productions, A Woman of No Importance by 

Oscar Wilde and The Ruling Class by Peter 

Barnes, and at Christmas in the Academy’s 

highly-regarded family pantomime, Mother 

Goose by Alan McHugh. Members of the group 

also appeared in professional productions at 

Christmas: in the Citizens Theatre’s production 

of The Wizard of Oz, Mother Goose at the 

Macrobert Centre, Stirling, and two separate 

productions of The Snow Queen, at Perth 

Theatre and at The Arches in Glasgow. 

In May you will have another chance to 

see them at the RSAMD in contemporary 

productions of two modern European classics: 

Dying for It, Moira Buffini’s adaptation of 

Erdman’s The Suicide and Wedekind’s Spring 

Awakening. 

One member of the group, Duncan Anderson 

does not feature in this year’s audition 

showcase as he is currently appearing in 

the Gate Theatre Dublin’s production of The 

Real Thing by Tom Stoppard, having just 

finished touring to Dublin and New York with 

the National Theatre of Scotland’s acclaimed 

production of Black Watch.
