A POINT OF SEPERATION
In the white noise of the crowd and cityscapes of which we are
part, it is perhaps the softer voice that may be heard. Saturated
in colour, drenched in the intensity of fluourescents, closed in on
all sides by thickly-painted, un-deviating corridors, we run through
these days, unconsciously acclimatising to the hyper-stimulated
environment of this studio, this wing, this floor.
In curating contrast through the levity of de-saturated glow, this
subtle intervention gently brings presence to this ordinarily bypassed
corner. Positioned at the opposite end of the spectrum to the solid,
bold, unpunctuated lighting of the rest of the floor, this canvass
is set with a quietened ambient light, teasing consciousness on
approach by the almost imperceptible blue core with mauve edge
for the station corner; enough to peak curiosity without screaming
for attention; enough to draw a sideways glance, bringing presence
of mind to the present moment and immediate environment;
prompting thought: “What has changed?”.
On closer approach it is then to the solo individual that the previously
hidden glint from within each frame speaks directly and more clearly
to the person about to make a choice. In that moment, the unique
reflecting glint catches the eye, asking the person who now stands
before it, to think, engage, sort: this is a point of separation.
