THE STUDENTS TALK ABOUT
HOW WE CELEBRATED NZ
MONTH
MUSIC MONTH THIS MAY
I made a PowerPoint for NZ Music Month. It includes the following artists
and bands: Anika Moa, Stan Walker, LadyHawke, Lorde and Split Enz. To see
my PowerPoint check out our class website
By Livvy
Today we're going to be talking about what we did for NZ Music Month, and
by we I mean me and my friend Sanaa.
We thought we'd make merchandise so our teacher suggested we make
bookmarks, but we also made cool creation called mookmarks (mini
bookmarks). We were collaborating with the people who thought of making
the talent show, so we sold our bookmarks & mookmarks at their talent
show.
We were the judges as well ! It was pretty cool being a judge but it was kind
of annoying too because some people tried to look at the scores, but we
managed to cover them up with the special bookmarks . The special
bookmarks were for the top 4 people that the judges chose. In the end the
winners weren't too obvious. Anyways, if you are reading this article and
you’re a child and if you want a bookmark or mookmark then please bring
$1.00 for a mookmark and $2.00 for a bookmark.
We're doing this for the hall extension so if you can, please help us raise
money if you do then a huge thank you!
THE
TALENT
ZARA, LARA, MADDY AND
MIA'S TALENT SHOW
SHOW
On the 26th of May we (Zara, Lara, Maddy & Mia) held a
NZ Music Month Talent Show. Here are the stages we went
through to make it. First, we designed and made some
terrific posters. This is what they said:
NZ Music Month Talent Show! Everyone welcome to sing
kiwi music, dance to it, mime it, write a poem about it, play
musical instruments to it, and much more! Remember, only
NZ music allowed!
After that, we made the sign up sheets and handed them
out to all of the senior classes.
Next came the tense wait till the talent show was due. We
held a meeting two days before the show with all the
contestants to find out what song they would sing or
dance to. On the day of the talent show we went down
early and set everything up. At lunch time, people came
flooding into watch. Once it was underway everything
went smoothly. Mia and Lara were the hosts, and Maddy
and Zara did behind the scenes. The winners were 4 girls
who did pieface while doing a NZ music quiz
By Maddy and Zara
Every year in May we celebrate NZ Music. In S6 we
thought "let's go celebrate Music Month" and go and
show and teach more about music to the school.
For our inquiry we organised some things for music
month. We had a variety of options that we could do
to celebrate.
We had so much to choose from - we could make a
Sway, Posters and organise activities. Me and my
group decided to put up posters and make a quiz using
Forms, and make a PowerPoint,
Also I helped organise a talent show for everyone to
enjoy!!
We started on our posters to advertise the talent show
and I also started my PowerPoint. After a couple of
weeks we had everything ready and we were done. I
showed my PowerPoint.
The talent show was a big success.
SCHOOL
CROSS
WE TALK ABOUT HOW THE
RACE WAS FOR US
COUNTRY
On Thursday 25 of May, we went to Cross Country. The purpose of
Cross Country was to see who could represent our school for Eastern
Zones. First was the year 4 girls, then the year 4 boys and it went on
and on. Our course started by the end of the beach by the Maranui
Surf Club, onto the pathway, down some stairs and run to the finish
line. I don't know where I came but I do know that I didn't come in the
top 7. After that I was really tired.
by Jumarone
On Thursday the 25 of May we did Cross Country. The whole school
did the Cross Country. This year we did a different course because of
the buildings going on at the beach. We had teachers standing where
we were going. In the year 6 girls who came first was me Eva!!! The
year 6 boy winner was Harrison!!! The year 5 girl winner was Ellarose
!!!!! We had a lot of fun!!!!!!
By Eva
On Thursday 25 May Lyall Bay School went to the beach to do cross
country . When we got there the teachers put the tarpaulins out. The
year 4 girls ran first. And then the year 4 boys ran and it kept going on
in the same order. The top seven were going to Eastern Zones. Every
body who made it to Eastern Zones will go Wednesday 6 June. I came
11.
By Malachi
We had cross country on the 25th of May 2017.It was at Lyall Bay
beach, It took most of the day. The whole school went.
I felt very nervous and had butterflies but it became easier by the
seconds. I think I came 14th or 15th.
By Bahren
We had cross country on the 25th of May 2017. I came 8th in the year
six boys.
I'm not going to Eastern Zones sadly.
Every person took part in the cross country event.
By Orson
On Thursday 25th May, the whole of Lyall Bay
School and some parents who came to help
did Cross Country. This is the order things
went in: We got in to buddies, We crossed
roads. Then we walked on the sandy footpath
of the beach. The teachers spread out a blue
mat, and we ate a quick snack.
We then cheered the year 4 girls on since they
where first to race, then it was the year 5 girls,
then the year 5 boys, then the year 6 girls,
followed by the year 6 boys, then the year 3's
and at last the Juniors.
It was a lot of fun :)
INQUIRY:
BELONGING
TERM2 INQUIRY; BELONGING
TO A COMMUNITY
Aidan talking about "What is a community"
This term with inquiry we have been learning about
communities . We have been learning about all
different types of communities- for an example
(animal communities and people communities etc.)
We started off by going into S1,S2,S3,S4,S5 and S6
to look at photos of places in our community
By Meika
We started off by getting into groups larger than
two but smaller than four. Once we were in the
groups we had to choose our parts, the parts were
recorder, reporter and knowledge. Then we wrote
down we thought the definition of communities
were. Next we wrote down some examples of
communities. Once we had done that we put up
some questions.
MARANUIFM
REPORT
STUDENTS INVOLVED IN
MARANUIFM TALK ABOUT
WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING SO
FAR THIS TERM
This term our focus was NZ Music Month. We have been
sharing some facts about singers and bands. The
Announcers and News Reporters have learnt new bands
and singers like Th' Dudes, Kora and Steve Mc Donald. As
an announcer our job is to announce each week at a given
time. We prepare our show by the day before our show
begins. As News Reporters our job is to get our news ready
before the announcers go on radio.
By Jumarone
Orson and Bahren's show is on Thursdays at 11:30. This
month was NZ Music month so we focused on Barry
Saunders, gThe Dudes/Dave Dobbyn and Steve Macdonald.
Our news reporter is Jumaraone.
On Wednesdays at 9:30 me and Esme have our radio show.
For most of this term we've been doing our shows about
New Zealand Music Month. We had to chose one or two
New Zealand singers or bands and find out some
interesting facts about them. We can chose loads of
different songs by different artists. We also have roving
reporters from Avondale Primary School and Ashley
Primary school. They send reports from their areas .
By Sophie
Our show is at 11:30 on Wednesday we have talked about
Fred Dagg , Fourmyla , Kora and When the cats away in our
NZ music month show our news reporter is Lara , we do
our show so that people find out facts about singers and
bands.
By EllaRose and Keith
Did you know that S6 is awesome at being on the radio. We
did on our show about Dave Dobbyn. Me and Sanaa were
talking about Dave Dobbyn anyway. Our news reporter was
Meika . She was talking about the latest news .We also had
some technical difficulties but we went through the hassle
By Anuksa and Sanaa .
Wednesdays at 9.30 me and Sophie do our
radio show. Lately we have been doing our
shows about NZ Music Month because it was
NZ Music Month. What we do is we get a run
sheet and we find out what we are doing. For
NZ Music Month we have been doing some
facts about the singers then we go on the
radio.
By Esme
Roving Reporters
The Roving Reporters are children from
different schools around the country that send
our school reports about what is happening in
their school. When they send us their reports
we play them over the school radio station. So
far we have two reporters from Ashley School
and three from Avondale Primary School.
THE
GREAT
FROG
SHOW
FROM TADPOLES TO FROGS
AND MORE!
Tadpoles To Frogs by Lara
I hope you've heard about the tadpoles! Well that was so
last term because now they're frogs! Ready to live life to
the fullest. Which isn't very full when they're stuck in a
tank. But soon they will live free to have their adventures
in the best ways possible, but lets stick to the adventures
in the tank!
(P.S. We are only guessing their genders!)
Froakie:
Our poor little Froakie - he is the smallest frog here,
but with the biggest appetite! He did use to be the biggest
tadpole. However he never had the most legs. We think
something must have happened because he only has 3 legs
now. We have been have been waiting a while for his last
leg but it doesn't seem to come out. Right now he is
hanging out at Maddy's place for his safety.
Sharky:
Sharky has always been the second to try things, until
climbing! He has been ruling the glass skies with no fear of
falling! He has made his kingdom in the top right back
corner of the tank. Right now he is eating well and
healthy, He is also the biggest.
Bubbles:
Bubbles was always a shy tadpole at first and the smallest.
She is still rather small , but to our surprise she was the
first to metamorphosis with her front legs. She dropped
her shyness at the bus stop. After finding Sharky and
Bubbles were best friends, she (we think) is small and thin,
not getting as much nutrients as she should.
Last Notes:
Please if you're able to bring blowflies or mayflies, that
would be fantastic for the frogs!
They are all pretty happy and healthy, so be ready for
more adventures!

We have heaps of published work available on our website
As well as written work, we have Sways, PowerPoints,
Comic Strips, Websites and more.
S6 has been publishing some work by using Office 365 .
In this report I am going to be talking about what I
published. First I have STRANGE Part 1. In this fiction
story there is a boy who think his dad has died. He hadn't
seen his dad since he was born. One day the boy finds a
room that wasn't there before as he opens that door he
also opens the door which leads to the un-solved mystery
of Jack Silverstein. Will he be able to defeat Jack
Silverstein with only one companion, his dad?
By Ali
PUBLISHED
WORK
We do free writing on Mondays.
On Monday 13 March 2017 I started a story (fiction) about
me, a 10-year-old boy riding my scooter down a hill until I
fell into a narrow hole.
Ahead of me I meet an adventure....
By Chidy
A man and a picture!!!!
This story is about a man who moved in to a new house
where there was a picture of a boy. When the man tried to
remove the picture hec couldn't but at night the
picture..........
By Eva
This year I have been doing some published work. In S6 I
have been working on an aeroplanes PowePoint with my
friends. It has 14 slides and also has heaps of different
kinds of planes.
By Malachi
Before we publish writing, we always make a draft.
In a draft you can plan and edit. You can't make a draft for
storyboards, Sways or PowerPoints but you can plan and
edit them.
We like to publish Sways, PowerPoints, Storyboards,
websites and written work.
I have published a PowerPoint about animals, two
storyboards about the Island Bay Marine Reserve.
Check them out in our class website!
And a poem by Ali
Wellington
Wellington is nature
She is the summer time.
In a flower.
A shining shooting star.
Wellington is a forest full of nature.
Her heart and her people garden happily.
Kia Ora to Wellington.
Whistle Song
(to tune of "If it weren't for ya gumboots" made
famous by Fred Dagg)
Whistles, they are wonderful, whistles, they are
great
Coz they call ya dogs which herd up all ye sheep.
And when you're sittin' round at home, you can
always tell
When one of the Trev's has blown his whistle.
If it weren't for your whistle, where would ya be?
You'd be shivering round at home without ya
jersey
Coz you would have a dose of the 'flu, or even
iceasy
If ya didn’t have ya whistle around your neck.
Now there's rugby whistles and racing whistles
and whistles for chasin' thieves.
But the only whistles I'm never without are the
ones that Start with "D".
If it weren't for your whistle, where would ya be?
You'd be shivering round at home without ya
jersey
'Coz you would have a dose of the 'flu, or even
iceasy
If ya didn’t have ya whistle around your neck.
