We could tell you a long story about how God brought
us home to Lift Jesus Higher Ministries, but instead we are
going to tell you that since the Lord found us and brought us
home our lives have changed drastically. We met Pastor
Laurie Moss back in November, 2016, since then we have
been seeking the Lord everyday and become stronger and
wiser through His word. We were lost and confused, even to
the point of depression but since we challenged God, yes I
said it, we challenged God to come and find us, and He
found us. He gave our lives a purpose, the purpose to live
for Him and spread His word. We are His walking
testimony and it gives us great pleasure and honor to work
together with Bishop & Pastor Moss on this magazine
project. A magazine inspired by the Lord to empower others
to lift Jesus’ name and make a change in the community
through the spreading of His Word.
“ Victory Through Praise!”
As Christian believers, we must understand that
we can access God’s supernatural ability by giving
Him the praise in every situation. Victory is defined
according to Webster’s Dictionary as an act of defeating an enemy or opponent in a battle,
game, or other competition. In the book of 2 Chronicles, we note that King Jehoshaphat
and the people of Judah were outnumbered by their enemies three to one. Instead of
running and hiding, the Bible tells us that Jehoshaphat decided to seek the Lord for help.
In times of trouble we must remember that our hope lies in Jesus. In Psalm 46:1, that
psalmist states that “God is a very present help in trouble”. The story goes on to say that as
Jehoshaphat and all of Judah sought the Lord, the spirit of the Lord came upon a man
name Jahaziel who was a descendant of the Levites. Jahaziel began to prophesy and told
Jehoshaphat that the upcoming battle wasn’t theirs, but the battle belonged to the Lord (2
Chronicles 20:14). Afterwards, Jehoshaphat encouraged the people to praise the Lord in
the face of the enemy. As Judah went out the next morning to face their enemy, the Bible
says that they began to “sing and praise the Lord” (2 Chronicles 20:22). As the people of
Judah praised the Lord, their enemy turned against themselves and destroyed one another.
What is the lesson here? When we praise God, then our victory is assured. We must also
keep in mind the reason praise is so effective against out adversary – praise brings the very
presence of God into our midst! David said in Psalm 22:3, “But thou art holy, O thou that
inhabitest the praises of Israel”. Because God lives in the praises of His people, Satan and
his followers cannot come against the people of God. So just as Jehoshaphat and the
people of Judah praised their way to victory, let us who know the power of Christ give God
the praise until our victory is manifest. Shalom!
Spiritual Excellence
By Pastor Laurie Moss
Many women have read about
the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31:1-31.
After accepting my call to the ministry,
I have set my heart to please the Lord, as well
as my husband. The first step was accepting that God made me a
woman which I take pride in. The Psalmist stated that we are
fearfully and wonderfully made. We must accept who we are,
and realize our purpose by walking and fulfilling the will of God
in our lives. Just as everything the virtuous woman set her hands
to do, she did it very well by setting the example. She went above
and beyond the call of duty, because Verse 29 tells us that, “many
daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.”
It takes a woman of strength, character, and integrity, while
demonstrating spiritual balance to develop an excellent spirit.
Then she must stay focused on her purpose, mission, and family.
The key to overcoming challenges and struggles, is keeping Jesus
as the center of your joy, and abide in God. Most of the trials that
we face are never about us. Trials come to test us and to make us
stronger and wiser. Then, we can help others overcome by
sharing our testimonies and victories we’ve won. Finally, there
are so many lessons in the Bible that we can glean from. I’ve
been blessed to have some great men and women of God
spiritually influence me. I’m also grateful to have a loving
husband who embraces me while pushing me to inspire to be all
that God designed for my life. Excellence is something we all can
attain, as we walk in our purpose, seek to please God and our
family.
LJHM Community News
“Bishop Moss Meets with the Mayor of Hampton”
On January 30, 2017, Bishop Moss met with the mayor of
Hampton, Mayor Donnie Tuck. The meeting was held at City Hall in
the mayor’s office. Also in attendance were Mr. Steven Bond,
Assistant City Manager, and Ms. Donna Little, President of the Olde
Hampton Community Association. Bishop Moss provided the mayor
with a presentation on the church’s outreach ministry in the Queens
Plaza Community of Hampton since the church’s relocation in March
2014. Mayor Tuck was very interested in and appreciative of the
work which the church had done and is doing in the community. In
addition, Bishop Moss shared the church’s community vision with
the mayor – “to uplift the community both naturally and spiritually”.
In conclusion, Mayor Tuck stated that he plans to come by the church
to attend a worship service. He also would like to come out to
support one of the church’s outreach efforts. Certainly, this was a
monumental meeting not to be forgotten by the members of LJHM.
Fellowship Night with Prayer & Action Outreach
Ministries, Chesapeake, VA
On March, 31, 2017, Bishops
Eugene & Sophia Spence from Prayer
& Action Outreach Ministries,
Chesapeake, VA joined us along with
members of their congregation to
have LJHM’s First Fellowship Night of
2017. Bishop Eugene Spence
delivered a powerful message to us
from the Holy Ghost about trusting the
Lord through our daily lives.
Bishop Spence tells us to get our
minds right and to remember that
idle minds are the devils workshop.
Saints we must keep in mind that
devil will twist God’s words in order
to lead us astray. The atmosphere
that evening was filled by the
presence of the Lord.
The message that evening was “Fret not”, Bishop spoke
from Psalms 37: v.1 -4, 9, 22-23, & 35-38. The message
was very clear, we must depend on God not on man or
our own understanding. We must be Faithful and
obedient not only to God’s word but to our Bishop &
Pastor and seek the Lord like they do in all aspects of our
lives. We must remember the Lord tells us in Psalms 46:10
“Be Still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted
among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” So
Saints let us not Fret over things that are already done.
A word on Praise and Prayer.
“Is anyone among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him
sing psalms.”
James 5:13
A Praise is a way to express warm approval or admiration for
someone or something. A prayer is defined as a request for help or
an expression of thanks as we address our Lord.
A prayer is how we communicate with Jesus. Through prayer
we can tell him what ails us, ask for help with any issues we have at
hand, and most of all thank him for He has done, he is doing and will
do not only for us but for the world.
Ways to praise the Lord.
We praise by singing gospels, by reading his word and
meditating on it, by saying thanks before each meal, by giving him
thanks. Imagine thanking the Lord for waking you each morning,
guarding your soul as you sleep, saying grace over each meal,
thanking him for guiding you to and from home as you travel to
work…ready? Guess what? You just praised him a total of maybe 7
times in one day! And it takes but 2 seconds to say Hallelujah! Thank
you Lord, Praise be your name. The Bible tells us in Psalms 119:164
“Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous
judgements.” Be encouraged to pray for whatever afflictions you are
going through and praise him throughout the day no matter what
you go through and believe that the Lord does hear you and he will
fight your battles for you.
Renewing our minds in Christ
(TAKEN FROM THE GRACEFUL BEGINNINGS: NEW BELIEVERS GUIDE)
It is not religion but a relationship with Jesus. A relationship
that comes with some awesome benefits, based on trust and
true love. Here are just a few of those benefits:
1. We didn’t have to work to be SAVED.
“ For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
2. Because Jesus sacrificed himself at the cross we are FORGIVEN.
“
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath
translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have
redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”
Colossians 1:13-14
3. By accepting Jesus as our Lord & Savior we are made
CHILDREN OF GOD.
“
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become
the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which
were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will
of man, but of God.”
John 1:12-13
14

4. We are never alone for he is ALWAYS WITH US.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with
such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor
forsake thee.”
Hebrews 13:5
5. Do not dwelt in the past but focus on your NEW LIFE.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things
are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
6. Jesus gives us ETERNAL LIFE.
”
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and
this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath
not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto
you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know
that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the
Son of God.”
1 John 5:11-13
always keep this within your heart & mind.
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Philippians 4:13
15

“
I press toward the mark for the prize of
the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:14
“And Jesus answering said unto them,
Render to Caesar the things that are
Caesar's, and to God the things that are
God's. And they marvelled at him.”
Mark 12:17
“Seven times a day do I praise thee because
of thy righteous judgments.”
Psalms 119:164
