Dear Friends,
Wow…I am overcome thinking that The Center opened
20 years ago and that I have been privileged to be the
President for half of those years. This position was one
that I really wanted and was delighted to accept. I
believed I could utilize my experience to make a
difference in the success of The Center, but little did I
realize how much of a difference The Cultural Arts
Center would make in me!
I have the honor of working with an incredible team of
people who care about our programs and the facility.
Many of the team have been here much longer than I
and have taught me more than you can ever imagine.
Our Board of Directors is a fantastic group of local
leaders who are very instrumental in guiding our
strategic direction and stand behind us in so many
ways. We all take great pride in this beautiful facility and our exciting programs. We love
trying new ideas to enhance our shows, exhibits, classes and outreach programs. I feel like
one of the legendary Three Musketeers—All for one…and one for all!
Of course, we could not accomplish what we do without the outstanding support of Henrico
County and its insightful leaders. The County demonstrates its true commitment to the
importance of the arts by staging awesome theatrical shows on our stage through the
Henrico Theater Company. This is community theater at its best and we are proud to
showcase their performances. As landowners, the County is a great supporter of our work
and we endeavor to be strong stewards of their confidence by creating a significant impact
throughout Henrico as well as the entire region.
I am incredibly proud of our outreach programs. We take art experiences to those who
would otherwise not be able to benefit from the life-changing benefits of the arts.
Working in after school programs, we help youth envision and hone their creative talents
which, in turn, improves their school performance, teamwork skills and self-esteem. We are
also taking the arts into juvenile detention facilities where the teens channel their energy
into creative visual and performing projects with incredible results for these youth. We also
take the arts into senior communities and work with those who are suffering from
debilitating conditions and memory care issues, but still revel in the joy that art brings into
their lives. Seeing the difference we are making has had a profound effect on me as well as
the staff and leadership at The Center.
And last, but certainly not least, I am enriched every day by you…our patrons. Visiting with
you as you come to shows, exhibits and classes is a wonderful treat. Seeing your smiles of
approval after a show is most rewarding. I truly feel like I have found my place as I spend
time with you at The Center. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful journey. I look
forward to seeing familiar faces again and again this year as well as making new friends who
are just discovering this magical place.
Thank you for all you have brought to us over the past 20 years…and personally to me
for the past 10 years. I am eager to see where we go next!

laughs with big city music! It has been said that if
“Larry the Cable Guy, Il Divo, and Mrs. Doubtfire
had a baby, that child would be the 3 Redneck
Tenors.” Based in Dallas, TX, these guys have
been seen as top 10 finalists on America’s Got
Talent, Only in America with Larry The Cable Guy,
and live in theater productions across the nation.
These trailer park singing sensations have a great
many stories to tell, taking us on a
sidesplitting ride of comedy and audience

and Parks, The Center welcomes you to this beloved holiday
event featuring magical holiday music performances, hot
chocolate and cookies, a toasty bonfire, and of course, a special
visit from Santa to light our iconic cedar Christmas tree at
The Center’s entrance!
Illumination: A Festival of Trees - free
Dec 7, 2019 - jan 2, 2020
Artisan created Christmas trees deck the Center’s halls as we
celebrate our annual Illumination. Each tree designed with
its own special theme is sure to thrill the youngest to oldest
visitors. Don’t forget the scavenger hunt or you’ll miss out on a
special treat at the end! Opening: Saturday, December 7, 2019
from 5-7pm following The Center’s annual Tree Lighting. Santa
and his elves will be on site for a visit with the children.

Center and the visual and performing arts as you participate in

having to stop all the fun!
Another exciting season is in store from our resident theatre

The Cultural Arts Center offers many fun and rewarding

are needed at all of our Center Season and 2nd Stage

and flexible volunteers are needed to cover the front desk
from time to time. During our Gallery Opening
Receptions, held six times each year, volunteers are
needed to help set up and serve refreshments. We are
also seeking volunteers to assist with our Sunday Brunch
Markets and Enchanted by the Arts Festival!

Our volunteers have tremendously enhanced our ability
to provide affordable arts education and entertainment
to the surrounding community and we are grateful for

Center Season Subscriptions
For the 2019-2020 Center Season (September 2019-May 2020), patrons can create their own
subscription starting with as few as three different performances! Additionally, the more
performances you attend, the higher the discount. For your convenience a chart of the
discounted prices is on page 15. Subscriptions for all performances require purchasing the
same number of tickets at the same time for each performance selected.
Subscription sales begin June 12, 2019 and are available for purchase online.
Create Your Own Subscription:
Choose 8 or more performances, save 20% off each ticket price
Choose 5-7 performances, save 15% off each ticket price
Choose 3-4 performances, save 10% off each ticket price
Starting July 8, 2019 individual tickets may be purchased for any show in any number
or combination of performances at the stated ticket price.
2nd Stage Subscriptions
Starting with four or more shows, purchase tickets for $15 per show (a subscription must
be the same number of tickets for each show). Subscription sales begin on June 12, 2019.

Galleries: Glass Doors, Gumenick Family, Midway, Slantwall:
Monday-Thursday, 9am-9pm; Friday, 9am-5pm. Also open during performances
and special events. Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday noon-5pm. Saturday and Sunday hours
are subject to change.
DURING PERFORMANCES
Out of respect for the performers, please do not use cameras, camera phones, or video
equipment during the performances. Out of respect for the performers and other patrons,
please turn off cell phones or switch to vibrate and please refrain from texting.
Individual Tickets
Starting July 8, 2019 individual tickets may be purchased for any show in any number or
combination of performances at the stated ticket price. Purchases that do not fall into
subscription guidelines, do not qualify for a discount. A $1 fee applies to all mailed orders.
Senior Citizens (65+)
Take $2 off regular ticket price (cannot be combined with other discounts). To enjoy this
discount, simply call the box office. This discount is not available online, for 2nd Stage or
matinee performances.
center season Group Sales
Discounts for groups are as follows:
10+ people, receive a 10% discount; 20+ people, receive a 15% discount. No group discount
on matinee performances. To make reservations for a group, call 804-261-ARTS (2787)

Ticket Refunds and Exchanges
All ticket sales are final. Exchanges are available only for subscription holders. If tickets
are unable to be used, they may be donated to the annual fund as a tax-deductible
contribution.
Lost Tickets
If tickets are lost, the box office will reissue tickets to the purchaser on record. Call the box
office as soon as possible to report lost tickets. For your protection, duplicate tickets will be
held at Will Call.

Noted for her expressive use of color and motion, Gloria Coker’s art evokes a positive

Scott Supraner explores the changing ideas of gender over time on an individual and historical
level through his ceramic wall reliefs and sculpture.

Brian Korte uses all the colors on the LEGO® palette to create his LEGO mosaics in this popular

1. light & shadow
July 16 – September 15, 2019
Richelle Kaufman is a classically trained artist in the European tradition whose work goes
from colorful realism to whimsical. Featuring a variety of themes, her work evokes a sense
of the subject through movement, composition, and color.
2. Flight of the Phoenix: Rising Through Ashes & Tides
September 19 – November 10, 2019
A collection of abstract acrylic paintings inspired by the poetry of the artist, Makenna Faulk,
and writer, Nora Wilson. Through vibrant and fluid composition, each piece tells the story of
love, loss, and redemption.
3. Illumination
december 7, 2019 – January 2, 2020
A continuation of the annual Illumination exhibit, a holiday celebration throughout
the main floor of The Center.
4. india - a journey of colors
January 8 – March 30, 2020
Travel often leads to unbelievable experiences and for photographer, Kelly Kinsey, the
people, animals, architecture, history, and colors of India were both unforgettable
and inspiring.
5. Next Level

A showcase of the expanding artistic visions of The Center’s instructors and their students
in a variety of mediums.
6. STILL
May 2 – July 12, 2020
In the stillness of life, art is found. Working with human figures and live models allows Kelly
Oakes to paint their “presence.” In their stillness while modeling, she sees their essence – their
beauty and what she perceives as their truth.

New monthly exhibits by amazing regional artists!
1. July 2019 | Angels of the River
Among Richmond’s treasures are the Victorian neo-classical sculptures
that adorn Hollywood Cemetery. With a commanding view of the James
River, these guardians of the spirit world are here re-interpreted in a
modernist style by artist Aaron Bowles.
2. August 2019 | Fluid Connections
Sukenya Best’s portrait series visually portrays the essence of an
individual’s hopes and dreams. Through insightful interviews with
her subjects, she was connected to and inspired by them.
3. September 2019 | Experience & Experiment: Fruits of a New Season
Richmond based artist Carlysle Vicenti pushes beyond his iconic style and
self-developed technique. In this exhibit of recent works, he shows that
age, aging, and creativity maintain artistic, personal & intrinsic relevance.
4. October 2019 | Mind Matters: The Voices of Me
Avian (Kizzie) Mills created this body of mixed media collages in an
attempt to illustrate various mental health disorders and their symptoms,
hoping to remove the veil of negativity that surrounds the issue of
mental health.
5. November 2019 | Watercolors & Alcohol Inks
Full of vivid color, Pat Troiani’s artwork uses watercolor and alcohol inks
primarily to create colorful paintings and collage works inspired by nature
and its inhabitants.
6. December 2019 | Ring in the Season
Unique artistic wreaths created by local artists and crafters. Perfect for
adorning your door, each piece is available to take home the day of
purchase.
7. January 2020 | Bytes and Pieces
One person’s junk is this artist’s treasure. Emma Lou Martin repurposes
trash, found objects, and art materials to create this series of collage
works. A visual feast, Martin’s work will keep viewers captivated.
8. February 2020 | Reflections
Artist Bev Jennette holds her brush loosely most days and paints in a
hazy “use your imagination” style. Other days she creates with great detail
adding embellishments with science-like experimentation but always
staying true to self, creativity, and innovation.
9. March 2020 | Youth Arts Alive!
Young artists from Center outreach programs share paintings, prints,
collage, sculpture and drawings that celebrate their unique perspective
and character. Artists include youth from afterschool groups, summer
camps, and the James River Juvenile Detention Center.
10. April 2020 | Next Level
Opening Reception: Friday, April 3, 2020, 6-8pm
An exhibition showcasing the expanding artistic visions of The Center’s
instructors and their intermediate and advanced level students, in a
variety of mediums.
11. May 2020 | Escapades of Three Friends
Three Friends Painting ( Terry Atkinson, Jean Kleeman, & Carolyn Velletri)
return to The Center where their artistic journey began, to share the results
of the creative spark ignited by friendship in their recent works.
12. June 2020 | The Art of Creative Expression & The Art of Recovery
Through creative expression and dynamic imagery, this exhibit
demonstrates the powerful impact that the arts afford individuals in
the mental health recovery process. Featuring original work by artists
with mental illnesses.

With the growth of the craft beer industry, Josh Stolberg’s aim is to reduce waste through
artistic re-purposing. One beer at a time, he converts ordinary bottle caps into imaginative
works of art. Through the use of innovative ideas and techniques, the conventional is
transformed into inspired, hand-crafted pieces.
2. BOOKWORM
September 19 – November 10, 2019
Award-winning artist, Maggie Kerrigan, takes books to another level. The carefully curated titles
are deconstructed and reconstructed to explore new meanings. Through hand-carving, folding,
or building with paper, Maggie transforms books in surprising ways.

4. reflections of light
January 8 – March 30, 2020
Wanda Hollberg designs jewelry that plays with the magic of light and glass as it reflects and
transmits light at the same time. Her collection is created with layers of glass using different
techniques such as dichroic glass, lusters, lamination, fusing, precious metals, enamels, and more!

6. housculptures
May 2 – July 12, 2020
Creating housculptures allows Mary Vivo to connect with various structures and their
surroundings. She uses wood, colored pencil, paper, markers, and paint to shape each piece.
Added details and nuances bring each building and scene she creates to life.

At The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, we believe that art is a powerful experience
with the ability to change lives. As a result, CACGA is committed to giving artistic
opportunities to our community beyond our campus – reaching out to the counties
of Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, Goochland, and Powhatan as well as the city of
Richmond! Through workshops, special events, and classes, we are sharing the
transformative power of the arts with people of all ages, cultures, and abilities.
ART MATTERS! – PRESCHOOL, YOUTH, AND TEEN PROGRAMMING
Art Matters invites young people from preschool to high school to explore and create
through visual and performing arts. CACGA provides instruction around the Richmond
region at local libraries, special events, community centers, and after school programs.
We also offer free programming for teens detained at the James River
Juvenile Detention Center and youth in the Police Athletic League (PAL) program.
OPENING MINDS THROUGH ART – SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAMMING
CACGA is proud to offer the Opening Minds Through Art program (OMA).
OMA provides opportunities for creative self-expression and social engagement
through evidence-based therapeutic art activities specifically designed for people with
dementia. OMA also provides volunteers with opportunities to improve their attitudes
toward aging through the weekly interaction with OMA program participants. CACGA
employs 3 staff members fully accredited through OMA and partners with area adult
day care centers, assisted living communities, memory care units, and senior
advocacy groups.
STUDIO ART CART
Filled to the brim with paint, brushes, pastel pencils, drawing pens, paper, and
canvases… our new Studio Art Carts are ready to travel! Designed to move, these
small carts expand creative arts opportunities for adults with restricted mobility in
senior living communities. Breaking down the barrier of isolation, the Studio Art Carts
provide the tools to engage individuals in a variety of artistic adventures.
