GRANTOWN YMCA
COMMUNITY CENTRE
The last few weeks have
seen some very exciting
developments here at
the Grantown YMCA
Community Centre.
With grateful thanks to
AW Laing Ltd and
Alliance Timber
Preservation, our major
roof repairs have been
completed! This now
means that our main
hall upstairs is once
again safely open for
business. The roof had
dropped to such an
extent that it took a
mighty 18 tonnes of
jack power to repair!
Whilst the hall is still
without heating, we are
delighted that we are
able to open up the
space for use again. We
are currently awaiting
quotes for heating and
will hopefully have
more news for you in
the next edition of the
Grantown Times.
More good news is that
three pupils from
Grantown Grammar
School were successful
on our behalf in the
annual Youth and
Philanthropy Initiative
competition. Bidding
against other groups of
young people, S2 pupils
Morven Rose, Molly
Crozier and Adam
Woods were awarded
the prize of £3,000 for
their chosen charity.
The £3,000 will be used
towards re-varnishing
and lining the floor in
the main hall. We are
extremely grateful to
the youngsters,
Grantown Grammar and
the YPI Scotland fund
for this much needed
sum.
The Centre is also in
receipt of £3,004.66
from the Grantown
Co-operative. This
money has been raised
by the Members 1%
donations ? yes, that
means YOU! So, thank
you very, very much.
The money has been
raised to insulate the
walls in the Youth Area
which is going to be a
huge draw for the
youngsters. With three
busy youth clubs in
place already, we are
certain that this will
benefit many of our
young people in the
years to come.
We are also fortunate
enough to have been
selected for the
Co-operative?s
Membership fund again,
alongside the Friends of
Grantown Primary.
Funds raised during this
6 month period will be
used to renovate our
Games Room (the Old
Snooker Room as many
of you will know it). This
is one of our more
popular spaces and is
ready for a new lease of
life. With the Youth
Clubs growing, and
many other user groups,
including the Girl
Guides, The Thursday
Club, Cosy Play and
Muay Thai classes, it will
be great to see this
space refreshed and
more user friendly for
all.
The Board of
Management would like
to take this opportunity
to thank everyone for
their ongoing support
and to remind everyone
that this is YOUR
Community Centre, and
is open for and
accessible to everyone.
There are many ways
you can help out,
whether it be attending
our Community Cafe
(open every Friday
between 10 and 2), our
SUMMER 2017 EDITION
monthly Pancake
Brunches (1st Saturday
of every month), or our
fundraising events such
as Quiz Nights and Table
Top Fairs. If you?d like to
be more involved, you
could become one of
our Volunteer Helpers
at any of these and
other events. We are
also looking for adult
helpers for our Baby
Group which meets on a
Thursday afternoon.
The Board is also hoping
for renewed Community
support. It would be
particularly beneficial if
we could welcome
some younger members
such as parents of
young children and
indeed, some over 16s
to represent their peers.
We are determined to
move forward and we
truly believe that with
the right people on our
Board, we can make the
right decisions and
build a brighter future.
