B I S H O P ' S H A T F I E L D G I R L S ' S C H O O L October 26th
Year 7 in Verulamium
On Tuesday 16 th October
2012, Year 7 visited
the ancient Roman town
of Verulamium in St. Albans.
First we visited the Roman
Verulamium Museum.
We looked at loads
of different things including: ancient mosaics, farming tools,
the dinners they ate and the food they stored. We also
looked at the different jewellery they wore and the currency
they used.
Secondly we visited the large
Roman Mosaic and the hypocaust
and learnt about how it heated
the large villas. We loved the
beautiful mosaic on the floor.
The smoke hole looked very
scary!
We also visited the Roman Theatre
and were surprised to see
how much of the theatre could still be seen. It looked very
similar to a theatre nowadays! We discovered that the Roman
theatres were also used for gladiator fights and animal
fighting.
It was a very enjoyable day and has
helped us understand what it would
have been like to live in Roman
times.

It is with great delight that we invite you to our first ‘Glee’vening’ on Friday 16 th November
from 6:30pm to 8pm in the Drama Studio.
The Glee Club began last Summer Term and the numbers participating have continued
to grow each week. With music and songs from across the decades including Wings by
Little Mix and California Dreaming from the Mamas and Papas, there is something to
suit all tastes and we would love you to join us in a celebration of their Glee. The
evening will consist of singing, dancing and plenty of fun, we are sure you will be tapping
your feet to the tunes and maybe even joining in with the girls’ favourite songs.
Tickets will be £3 per adult and £1 for children and will go on sale after half term; all
proceeds will be used to support the School Production of ‘The Return to the Forbidden
Planet’ in March 2013.
