Chainsaw Level 1<br />
AHCARB205A – Operate and maintain chainsaws & FPICOT2239A – Trim and cut felled trees<br />

This course is suitable for both experienced and non-experienced chainsaw operators. It has been designed to develop or increase<br />
skills in operating chainsaws safely and efficiently in a range of common work situations including when trimming and cutting felled<br />
trees.<br />
This course includes:<br />
• Chainsaw Safety – including workplace health and safety, hazard and risk management and PPE selection and use.<br />
• Chainsaw Preparation and Maintenance – including cleaning, maintaining and servicing chainsaws as well as chain<br />
tensioning and chain sharpening.<br />
• Chainsaw Operations – including start-up and shut-down procedures, saw selection, cutting methods and general<br />
chainsaw operation.<br />

This course covers the process of felling trees with advanced techniques and defines the standard required to: conduct a site and<br />
tree hazard identification and risk control assessment; prepare materials and equipment to specifications; set up safe fall and<br />
exclusion zones; use low risk dismantling procedures to fell a tree; fell wind thrown and suspended trees; use documented low risk<br />
work procedures and record worksite activities according to documented guidelines.<br />

select, prepare and inspect ropes, harnesses and other equipment associated with climbing trees; safely climb/ascend and descend<br />
a tree with rope and harness; climb using documented low risk work methods; inspect for faults and store ropes, harnesses and<br />
