Splinter Group is run by a group of young people for people with SpLDs (specific
learning differences) aged 16 years and over who live in Northumberland. The group
is run and managed by the young people, with support and help from Northumberland
Community Development Network, who also offer one to one support.
Splinter offers group sessions around the county, peer support, social events,
workshops and having a say on issues that affect their members. Waffling On is a
social enterprise run by the group which takes a waffle-making stall to markets and
employers fairs to raise funds and raise awareness about SpLDs with employers and
the public. The group is always looking for new places to run the waffle stall. Group
members can also run awareness-raising training for anyone who wants to hear about
SpLDs, from people who have direct experience of them.
Splinter holds group sessions at CVABV (address above) on Fridays between 12
and 2.30pm. They offer support for employment, accredited learning, projects and
activities, and are happy to run sessions anywhere in the county where there is interest.
Splinter is planning to start up a group in Alnwick. Please contact them for more details
about their work and how to join the group.
