Careers
After a term in post as the new Head of Careers at Malvern
St James, I am looking ahead to the future and eager to
foster links between existing students and the Old Girls.
The girls, both former and current, are the School’s most
valuable asset and I would love to be able to capitalise
on the skills and experience of the Alumnae to support
the current students.
There are a range of activities during the academic year where
the Old Girls could play an active role. Work Experience for Year
11 students is undertaken annually and this year will be from
the 22nd – 26th June 2009. This will be an opportunity for the
girls to gain fi rst-hand experience of a career that they may
ultimately enter, giving them a realistic view of the profession
and helping them to make informed choices in the future.
In the same week, Year 12 girls go out on Community
Volunteers week. We look at this as an opportunity for
them to enhance their skill base and for the community

to benefi t from their enthusiasm and commitment.
We are actively seeking placements for both opportunities
and I am hoping that the School’s newly forged links with
the Chamber of Commerce will also lead to some exciting
placements for the girls.
In the Spring Term of 2010, the School will be hosting a
Careers Fair and this would be a wonderful opportunity for
those working within a business to provide a Stand and
help to demonstrate the wide range of options the girls will
have available to them once they complete their education.
