The year they were married, Rosa Parks refused to give up
her bus seat to a white man, Albert Einstein and James
Dean died unexpectedly and the Brooklyn Dodgers were
World Series Champions.
They were living in a time of history.
Before she died, my mother was very candid about her
relationship with my father and said after being married
to him for a month, she knew she had made a mistake, but
was hopeful that the marriage would work.
A decision she would later regret.
A few years after their marriage, in 1958, my mother gave
birth to their only son, Mark. Unfortunately, Mark died
after three days suffering from a brain hemorrhage. She
told me that the doctor had come to her room at the
hospital with my father, Robert, and told her that young
Mark had died on a table just a few minutes before in the
exam room down the hall.
