#MySmileMatters: Raising the Optics & Conversation on
Children's Oral Health with Youth Voice
#MySmileMatters, an initiative of America's ToothFairy, is the Nation's only youth engagement
effort focusing on children's oral health. With tooth decay being the #1 chronic childhood disease
in America, we believe it is essential to educate, engage and mobilize young people as teachers
and advocates addressing children's oral health.
Oral health contributes to heart disease, diabetes, cancers and other health problems. No matter
what your chosen future health profession is, oral health and dental disease will affect your
patients, their families and communities. Every health professional must understand the role oral
health plays in overall health and wellness.
A Unique Healthcare Career… PHARMACY
DO YOU LIKE VARIETY?
A Doctorate of Pharmacy degree opens the door to 20+ career pathways. Pharmacists work in
specialty areas such as nuclear pharmacy, oncology, cardiology, infectious disease, pediatrics,
ambulatory care, and compounding, manage multi-million dollar companies as entrepreneurs,
perform research, and work in more traditional settings such as independent and chain pharmacy.
American Pharmacists Association: Career Option Profiles
DO YOU LIKE SCIENCE?
“Pharmacists provide expertise about the composition of medications, including their chemical,
biological and physical properties, as well as their manufacture and use. They ensure drug purity
and strength and make sure that medications do not interact in a harmful way”…… in other words,
pharmacists have more knowledge about the science of drug composition and their activity in the
human body than any other health professional.
American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy: Student Brochure
DO YOU WANT TO IMPROVE HEALTHCARE?
Pharmacists have direct patient interaction and provide education about prescription and overthe-counter
medications, advise nurses, physicians, and other health professionals on drug
regimens, strive to cure and manage disease, reduce symptoms, and prevent disease through
medication and preventative avenues such as diet and exercise.
American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy: Student Brochure
DO YOU WANT A LUCRATIVE CAREER WITH GREAT JOB PLACEMENT?
The employment of pharmacists is expected to grow faster than the average of all
professions between 2012-2022. The median wage for a pharmacist is $120,950.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER-
FRANK KITCHENS
"THE LIFE AND LEADERSHIP
CONNOISSEUR"
Frank Kitchen loves educating, elevating and
empowering people around the world to live
their personal and professional dreams.
Born in Germany, the constant travels of this
military brat's family led to a very interesting
life full of diverse experiences and
relationships. Travel taught Frank how to
connect with people and gave him visual
examples of everything life has to offer.
This former award winning college educator
and business manager practices what he
preaches, by practicing his motto, "Live Life!"
A motto that has led to unique adventures and
experiences including: Being a student and
community leader, working as a children’s
birthday party entertainer; working as a
professional actor and model; teaching at an auctioneer's school; working at a major Zoo; raising
money for charities, managing a Toy Store, starting his own Personal & Professional
Development company and authoring four books.
Encouraged by his family, friends, and students, Frank left his position as a college educator to
pursue his speaking and consulting dream. He has shared his Fresh and Creative Knowledge on
Life and Leadership with major corporations, schools, colleges, universities, professional
associations, conventions, conferences and civic organizations in the United States, Canada and
Australia. He has empowered students, educators, volunteers, professionals, entrepreneurs and
dreamers how to create and implement recipes that turn their dreams into reality.
A resident of Phoenix, Arizona, Frank is a dedicated husband and father who would love the
opportunity to assist you with living your dreams.
"BE FRESH, STAY FRESH, LIVE FRESH!"
Everybody loves something FRESH from the Kitchen! The experience of partaking in
something New, Exciting, Great, Wanted, Needed and Positive is desirable. To create the
environments where dreams flourish, you must be FRESH! FRESH results require a FRESH
attitude. Your attitude determines how positive or negative your life experiences will be.
"The Life and Leadership Connoisseur," Frank Kitchen will teach you why being Focused,
Resourceful Enthusiastic, Strong and Honest are the essentials to living FRESH and
experiencing the dreams you've always talked about
NATIONAL HOSA REPRESENTATIVE
TAVARUS ROWE
A current senior at the College of Charleston in
Charleston, SC, and a HOSA member for 6 years,
Tavarus is an avid supporter of working hard. Not
only does he see hard work as an acquired skill, but
also as a way of life. Being raised as an only child in a
single parent home, he was often left to figure many
things out on his own, which contributed his
academic success but yielded a somewhat
introverted demeanor.
In the 10th grade, Tavarus joined HOSA, where he
was given the tools and components that allowed
him to mold himself into the person that he had
always dreamed of being. At this time, he was also
urged to become a local officer, although this was
only his second semester in the organization. He
reluctantly applied and was elected as treasurer of
the local chapter. After an exciting year Tavarus was
urged to run for state office. This was a huge step for him, especially since he thought that he
didn't have the skills necessary to be successful on the state level. Again reluctant, he
applied and served as the SC HOSA Vice President for that year. At the conclusion of his
term as VP, Tavarus had learned so much about himself and had become so inspired that he
decided to run for SC HOSA office a second term and was elected as the president for the
following year.
After Tavarus served his last term as SC HOSA's president, he continued to give back to the
organization by helping out with the state officers and with all of the conferences. It was
through this involvement that he realized the special place HOSA held in his heart and
decided to run for a seat on the National Executive Council. During his year in office,
Tavaurs hopes to increase awareness of the post-secondary division so that they too can take
advantage of the wonderful opportunities afforded by the organization.
Without finding himself through HOSA, Tavarus would not have been able to enjoy and
excel at the activities that he loves doing in his free time, such as working out, playing
basketball, and hanging out with friends to name just a few. He is very excited to work with
you all and looks forward to a great year of HOSA!
