Message from Ranae Frazier, General Manager
It is that time of the year that the managers and I will begin the budget process for
2018. Controlling expenses is most important. As in the past, building a budget
component-by-component, dollar-by-dollar is the goal. The best way to study costs is to
develop the zero-based budget, and thereby justify each cost center. The end result is
having a justifiable budget based on real costs for the actual year, down to the underlying
performance drivers, such as the number of employees needed for a restaurant shift or the
number of times the fairways are mowed.
A strategic planning process is deliberated by the board so management can place
cost estimates around the operational element of that strategy. By knowing the direction
the community is moving towards, we can build an accurate budget with operating
expenses, capital expenditures, and capital replacements. Simply put, budgeting without
having a strategic plan is like driving your car in the evening with no head lights. We will
be faced with many challenges this year especially with the new terrace lounge and
kitchen. As always, management and myself, will sharpen our pencils!
The site and field work is scheduled to begin next week. The permits are still
being reviewed by Lee County. The furniture on the terrace has been moved to a storage
unit. There are a few outdoor tables and chairs under the bocce court awning that are
available if you would like to dine outside. Please alert the staff in the PUB to ensure
excellent service.
It is with mixed feelings that we have to say good bye to Kelly Leonard. She has
been offered a fantastic job at Kensington Country Club to further her career in the
wedding industry. Kelly has done a FANTASTIC JOB! Please join me congratulating
her.
Questions asked this week:
• Question: Those of us that are not full time, other than our quarterly dues, have no
club charges for the months we are gone, except for the occasional Hole in One charge
of $2.00. I assume that you have had members who overlooked the $2.00 charge. Did
they receive a $25 late fee? Answer: A late fee of $25 is not assessed unless you
have a balance of $40 or more.
• Question: Is it correct to assume that food charges at the other reciprocal clubs will
be applied to our food minimum for Legends? Answer: The food charges at other
clubs does not apply to Legends minimum.
• Question: Will our food minimum be adjusted down on a pro rata basis for the 8
weeks the kitchen is closed? Answer: There will not be an adjustment to your food
minimum during the closure, as our minimum is annually not monthly. As a reminder,
the Café will be open daily except for Thursdays from 7am-5pm during the closure
that can be applied to your minimum.
Until next week….
