2018 HUSQVARNA TEs – shock headline: they’re fuel-injected! DAKAR REBOOT – yeah, we want to ride this one, please BON VOYAGE – Andy does a runner (or rather ‘did’) *** Of course Husky have fuel-injected their 250 & 300 two-strokes (there’d have been an outcry if they hadn’t). We sent RUST’s new apprentice along to see what it was like. Have we told you about him?! Also in this issue: the African Dakar experience, today, only like yesterday (you’ll see); and RTW day one – what’s that like? RUST, it’s the smart read. Hope you like it! Jon Bentman (Editor, RUST)

INTO THE DUNES
Even the last 25km left no respite. Motorcycles ran into a
chaotic sea of sand before finally heading to the finish. The
finish of this long stage was then, majestic. after so many
kilometres travelled on an immense and arid plateau, the
enormity of the never-ending dunes of the true Sahara faced
us. a battlefield of contrasts between pinks and oranges. The
riders admired them, enjoying a well deserved rest in the
camp at the Erg Chebbi, an adventurers’ den.
The stages in these dunes are a unique experience for
whoever rides there for the very first time. The heavy bikes
from the 80s suffer. Engines warm and consume oil.
Motorcycles bury themselves, the riders fall and quickly lose
energy – in particular those who do not have an electric
starter! The riding, very technical, is truly testing on a terrain
which turns out to be more hazardous that we first imagine.
