New lifts at MTR Sham Shui Po and Jordan stations enhance accessibility

Two new external lifts at MTR Sham Shui Po and Jordan stations opened for public use
today (16 May 2012), providing enhanced access to and from the rail network, especially
for passengers with special needs. These are the second and third new lifts to be opened
under the Listening‧Responding programme after the first lift at Cheung Sha Wan
Station went into service last month.
"We are committed to working with the community to bring the services and facilities that
people find important. These new lifts will make the MTR system more accessible and
convenient, especially for the large elderly population in Sham Shui Po and the many
different passengers with special needs who pass through Jordan Station, which is one of
the busiest in the network," said Mr Jay Walder, Chief Executive Officer of MTR
Corporation.
The lift at Sham Shui Po Station Entrance/Exit B1 connects Cheung Sha Wan Road with the
station concourse, while the one at Entrance/Exit B1 of Jordan Station offers convenient
access from the junction of Jordan and Nathan roads to the station concourse.
Senior citizens and representatives from two charity groups offering assistance to persons
with disabilities joined guests from the respective district councils, including Mr Chung
Kong-mo, Chairman of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council and Mr Vincent Cheng,
Chairman of Transport Affairs Committee of Sham Shui Po District Council, to try out the
new lifts and experience the enhanced convenience.
Through the Listening‧Responding programme, MTR is investing over $1 billion to
further enhance customer service. The initiatives being implemented include
introducing more train services to ease crowding and upgrading station facilities. 10
more external lifts will be installed by 2015.
