There were newspapers, weekly and monthly newsletters,
news portals, gossip magazines, sports magazines and the
kind of magazines one would find in a waiting room. There
were also newspapers, magazines and websites for kids, but
there weren't any created BY them.
So boys and girls from second grade in Arateia School
decided to write a newspaper with the current events
that they find interesting. They created Diario Kids, kids'
current events with events they consider to be news.
One of the reporters wrote "it rained candy in the
beach and people lived sweet ever after".
In the police news section it was said that a
woman had been killed by a zombie and a
vampire and that Frankenstein, who seemed so
bad, was in fact really nice. He said he would
catch the zombies and vampires with a golden
sword. This sword can put the criminals to
sleep without hurting them. By the time the
villains wake up, they will have already been
sent to prison. At least that is what
Frankenstein assured to us.
One of the most beautiful news was this one: a rainbow appeared over the
sea even though it was not rainy and sunny. It was such a special rainbow
that it granted wishes by just looking at it. It didn’t have the typical
colours: it was green, orange, pink and blue with gray dots. A chicken asked
to be able to fly like a falcon and so it did.
There weren't any texts or scores in the sports news section. There were
just pictures of gymnastics, football, rugby and ice-skating. It seems that
Diario Kids cares about the game and not its results. Diario Kids' sport
writers enjoy the game and avoid controversy.
Aliens arrived to Earth and visited Ciuda de la Costa. They did it peacefully,
although at first they thought they were not welcome because the cranes and
shovels frightened them. Soon they were told that people from the local
government were repairing the streets so the orange vests and helmets were not
war uniforms.
The piece of news in the back cover was as simple as it was
beautiful. The headline said that a boy fell in love with a girl.
In the picture they are swinging together surrounded by hearts.
Diario Kids went on sale door
to door and it was a huge
success. Extra, extra, rainbow
over the beach grants wishes!
Every kid started asking their parents to buy the newspaper.
It was the kind of newspaper the kids wanted to read.
