Car Rentals
Your best option is to become a member of one of the large carshare providers in Vancouver. EVO, car2go as well as
Modo & Zipcar are all excellent choices.
Especially when travelling to a day hike or to Whistler, you’ll need a car. If you need it for several days, you should
consider renting one. Most major car rental companies will require you to be 21 years old. They have offices in
Downtown. Although gas (petrol) will likely seem cheap to you, Vancouver has the most expensive gas prices in North
America. Be courteous and considerate of bikers and pedestrians when driving here, Canadians are notorious for their
politeness: it is not uncommon for a car to stop in the middle of the road to let a pedestrian cross a busy street (without
crosswalk!
Whistler
Ah yes, our beautiful Whistler Village. World famous, especially since the 2010 Olympics. Two hours of driving along
the Sea-to-Sky Highway – one of the most beautiful drives in this part of the world – and you’ll see Whistler and
Blackcomb Mountain, a world-class ski resort.
Students are eligible for an amazingly cheap season pass (buy early to avoid disappointment) and if you are into skiing
or boarding, we would highly recommend getting it. After skiing, go for a drink and some food at Longhorn’s Saloon
and spend the remaining day (and night) in one of the many bars in the village.
On the road to Whistler, it’s worth checking out Squamish (good kitesurfing spot) and perhaps hike the Chief or
Garibaldi Provincial Park; Lake Garibaldi is breathtakingly beautiful.
