The schools in Sachse are part of both the Garland and Wylie Independent School Districts.
Garland Independent School District
With an enrollment of more than 57,000 students, GISD is the second-largest district in Dallas County and
among the largest in Texas.As suburbs of a national metropolis, Garland ISD’s tri-communities have always had
the best of both worlds – the flavor and feel of small towns coupled with the amenities offered by a large city.
This helps maintain a cozy feeling while allowing teachers access to the increased resources offered by
larger districts.
Every school in GISD provides the same high level of instruction. However, that doesn’t mean you will find clone
schools here. Campuses, like students, are unique with personalities that reflect the attitudes of their own
students, parents and staff. And none have more flair than those situated in the Garland ISD.
Wylie Independent School District
WISD offers a wide range of educational opportunities based in a tradition of academic excellence. The district
and individual students annually receive numerous awards and honors both academic and extracurricular. On
the Texas Education Agency Accountability reports, all WISD elementary schools are currently rated as
“recognized”or “exemplary.”Wylie students also score above state and national averages on SAT and ACT college
entrance exams. Based on their performance on the PSAT exam, the district has students who are recognized
by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Each year, WISD seventh grade students who perform well above
their grade level on the PSAT exam are recognized by the Duke University Talent Identification Program. In fine
arts, career programs, Air Force Junior ROTC and academic University Interscholastic League programs, Wylie
students receive state and national recognition in competition with students from other districts. Students also
participate and excel in specialized programs such as culinary arts, television production, health professions
and agriculture sciences.
With a current enrollment of approximately 11,000 students, Wylie ISD continues its fast-past growth. Through
support of the community, the district opened three new campuses in August 2007. They are Wylie East High
School, Al Draper Intermediate and Rita G. Smith Elementary. A ninth elementary, Don Whitt Elementary,
opened in August 2008 and is located in Sachse, Texas.
