Mirwaiz hails the UNSC’s
statement over Kashmir issue
SRINAGAR: In occupied
Kashmir, Hurriyat
Forum Chairman Mirwaiz
Umar Farooq welcomed the
statement of the UN
Secretary General Antonio
Guterres, wherein he has
once again stressed for a
meaningful dialogue
between India and Pakistan
and that of China which has
offered to a mediate for a
permanent resolution of the
Kashmir dispute.
Mirwaiz said that “this
reflects that the international
community is concerned
about the situation in
Kashmir and the grave consequences
for the region if
the dispute is not resolved.”
The Mirwaiz said that whenever
there is international
pressure and outrage over
the situation in Kashmir and
a third country offers mediation
to resolve the dispute,
the Government of India
quickly rejects it saying they
will resolve it bilaterally
with Pakistan. “And when
Pakistan asks India to
engage in dialogue with both
them and the people of
Kashmir to address the dispute,
India refuses and
dodges saying Kashmir is an
internal problem and tries to
link the Kashmiris’ struggle
to the so-called terrorism,”
he pointed out.
This doublespeak is compounding
the miseries of the
people of Kashmir who
want the Government of
India to put an end to its
repression and start serious
steps towards resolution of
the Kashmir dispute for
ensuring permanent peace in
South Asia, he added.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz
Farooq has strongly condemned
puppet authorities
for barring him from offering
Friday prayers and delivering
religious sermon at Jamia
Masjid and turning entire
downtown are of Srinagar
HEC Spokesperson
Ayesha informed that the
degrees of three education
institutions are being verified
by the HEC. She further
said that institutions
have also been blacklisted,
while only the government
Another train
needed for Sukkur
as passenger
load increases
SUKKUR: Due to betterment
in services of Pakistan
Railways now more and more
people of preferring rail travel
over road journey and passengers
are finding lot of difficulties
in getting seats in the
Sukkur Express, a passenger
train running between Karachi
and Jacobabad.
They said that this train
runs daily at full capacity and
people cannot find seats even
when they try for advance
booking. Sukkur is the third
largest city of Sindh and trade
and commerce hub of the
northern Sindh. It is direly
needed that besides the Sukkur
Express, another passenger
train, either direct or with
fewer stops should be run
between Sukkur and Karachi,
and it would provide huge revenue
to the Pakistan Railways
because of a tremendous passenger
rush on this important
route. Sukkur Express is one
of the most profitable trains
of Pakistan Railway and as
this train service is not able to
cater the needs of ever
increasing number of passengers
a new express passenger
train, preferably having more
lower-AC and business classes
coaches, has become
inevitable.
Bacterium
promotes colorectal
tumor growth
ISLAMABAD: Recent
research finds a bacterium
that drives tumor growth in
colorectal cancer, which is
the second leading cause of
cancer-related death
The new study set out to
examine the precise mechanism
that may underlie the
connection between Sg and
colorectal cancer.
Kumar and colleagues
examined in vitro human cell
cultures and tissue from
human tumors, as well as
performing experiments in
mice.
These experiments
revealed that Sg helps colorectal
cancer cells to proliferate.
Additionally, they
showed that Sg drives colorectal
cancer cell proliferation
depending on the growth
phase of the Sg bacteria, and
only when the bacteria and
cancer cells are in direct contact.
The scientists also
examined whether bacteria
secretions or other metabolites
from Sg would drive
cancer cell proliferation, but
they found that, on their own,
these were not sufficient to
promote cancer cell growth.
Additionally, the
researchers investigated the
effects of Sg on a protein
known to play a crucial role
in the development of colorectal
cancer: the betacatenin
protein. As the
authors explain, the
"Wnt/beta-catenin signaling
pathway regulates cell fate
and proliferation and is a critical
pathway in colon tumorigenesis."
The tests showed
that, when beta-catenin was
inhibited, Sg did not drive the
proliferation of cancer cells.
This suggested to the
researchers that Sg uses the
beta-catenin signaling pathway
to drive colorectal cancer
cell proliferation.
Additionally, Kumar and
team injected Sg into mice
that had been engineered to
develop colorectal cancer
and monitored their tumor
growth in comparison with
a control group that was
injected with a different
bacterium.
