Day 1: Nairobi Use the opportunity to explore your surroundings before your welcome meeting at 18:00 when your Tour Leader will review the details of your trip. Arrive early to visit a few of the many attractions in Nairobi such as the Nairobi National Museum, Railway Museum, Karen Blixen Museum, The Village Market, Giraffe Centre, Bomas of Kenya and Karura Forest. Day 2: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park Lake Nakuru is situated in the Great Rift Valley and known for its thousands of flamingos nesting on its shores. You may spot endangered black rhino, buffalo, impala, hyena and pythons. Spend most of the day on a game drive through the park. Stay in comfortable rooms on a working farm. Relax under the shade of the farm’s many Acacia trees. Day 3: Lake Nakuru National Park to Masai Mara National Reserve Prepare for a long drive. Sections of bad roads which will give you the “African massage”, the local term for shaking around a bit when the going gets tough. End the day at the Masai Mara National Reserve for a late afternoon game drive, if time allows. Day 4: Masai Mara National Reserve An early start for a full day game drive the Masai Mara. Keep your eyes open and your cameras ready for shots of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, black rhino, hyena, wildebeest, eland and zebra. We have lunch at one of the designated picnic spots and return late afternoon for a welcome shower comfortable bed. Day 5: Masai Mara National Reserve to Kisii Enjoy a scenic drive en route to Kisii, Kenya’s premier soapstone region. The town hosts a diverse collection of country and garden hotels. Camp at the Itibo Resort, a cool and serene environment, perfect for winding off from the hustle & bustle of city life. Day 6: Kisii to Musoma Before leaving Kisii we visit a local soapstone factory that shows the whole process from excavation to carving. The perfect opportunity to buy that unique souvenir at a fraction of the price of other tourist shops. Cross the border into Tanzania and head to Musoma, which is situated on the eastern edge of Lake Victoria. Camp on the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake and the largest tropical lake in the world. Day 7: Musoma to Serengeti National Park Journey to the Serengeti, which is renowned for its large lion population and one of the best places to observe them in their natural environment. We use 4x4 safari vehicles for the duration of the Serengeti/Crater excursion. Spend one night camping in the central Seronera area. A custom designed comfortable mattress is provided as well as a comfortable and durable sleeping bag and pillow. Listen to the sounds the night offers while you doze off. Day 8: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area Enjoy an early breakfast before your safari begins. We do game drives in the Serengeti until around lunch time, then crossover to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Crater is the world’s largest inactive, unfilled and intact volcanic caldera and home to roughly 25,000 large animals. Be on the lookout for buffalo, zebra, or elephant which might just wander into the campsite. Day 9: Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Karatu Enjoy a final early morning game drive into the Crater. Descending 600 metres from the crater rim to the bottom of the crater will feel like entering an ancient world. Massive candelabra cacti stand watch along the slopes and inside the crater, you will find a mini-world with a lake, a swamp, a river, grassland and forest. Have cameras ready for endangered black rhino, elephants with long, white, curved tusks, spotted hyena, herds of wildebeest and the jackpot of any game drive, the big cats - lion, leopard and cheetah. Day 10: Karatu to Nairobi Today is a relaxing drive crossing the Tanzania/Kenya border. Explore the city of Nairobi, which highlights include Nairobi National Museum, Railway Museum, Karen Blixen Museum, The Village Market, Giraffe Centre and Bomas of Kenya, but perhaps the most famous tourist attraction is Carnivore, an open-air restaurant featuring an all-you-caneat meat buffet.
