30 HOKIES
14 DAYS
2 COUNTRIES
1 EXPERIENCE

Visiting the Emirates Aviation Centre in
North Greenwich.
Learning details about an Airplane Flight
mechanism (precisely that of the Airbus
A380-800), its Engine - Rolls Royce
Trent 900, Testing the Simulator, and
learning about
Emirates as a
brand/company. It
helped visualize
Real-Air-World
processes and
problems.

TOWER BRIDGEI
A phenomenon of London City.
We took a tour inside-out. The Bridge, which is
over the Thames River, also opens up to let big
ships pass through. We saw the magnificence of
ancient engineering that involved several
hundred laborers and the excellence of modern
engineering with the Hydraulic system used to
lift the bridge. The before and
after pictures tell!

LONDON METRO
SYSTEM
Often referred to as the “Tube” or
simply the “Underground”, it has
16 different lines (Washington
D.C has 6 and Dubai has 2).
Companies owned their own
stations and rail tracks trying to
make money before it all
converged into ‘one’ under the
government. It is one of the
swiftest running public transports.
Interestingly, the handle and bar
color inside the train is the same
as the line it runs on. Frank Pick,
a leading architect, artist, designer
and the the genius behind London
Transport said “It is or will be a

SHOWCASE OF THE BRITISH ROYAL NAVY
Victory (in use from 1765): About 100
canons and 400 men that worked in it in its
days. Enormous Structure with very
intriguing stories about its selfish yet
patriotic Captain. It has been repaired
several times and is now away from water.
Still standing BIG!
Warrior (in use from 1859): The biggest and heavily armed Warship of its period with
about 350 canons and 900 men that worked on it. It was able to attack at a very variable
angle which was quite a thing back in the day. It also had some of the most skilled marine
of the day that could aim and take down an opponent ship in less than 30 min.
These water marvels boast about the british naval engineering!

Stonehenge
One of the Wonders of the
Ancient World, its purpose or
meaning is really unknown. The
Rocks looked massive and very
difficult to move or lift, which
makes it a feat of engineering in
itself. The real structure however,
suffered damage. The ruins are
now a visitors’ site.
Roman Baths
It was where the Kings and their people bathed. The waters for some
reason were considered to have powers of healing and were used to heal
leprosy and other diseases. The water looked pretty dirty because it has
not been treated which we were warned about. I also tasted the water
from the natural hot spring (It tasted terrible to be honest). This site
was based in the city of Bath which is the only other entire city than
Venice, Italy to be a Global Heritage Site. The Architecture of the
location was weirdly amazing. Different architects took different
designs and worked on one building and apparently made it really well.

Partners with Virginia Tech, We
received a tour of their Power
lab, 3D printing lab, Biology lab
and the
Visited the famous Long Hall
Library, Got a tour of their
Civil, Mechanical and
Biomedical buildings and Labs
which was interesting. A Solar
Panel project intended to
electrify Malawi stood out
because of its simplicity.
We received a tour of the major
parts of the campus and the
Engineering Building (Ugliest
building on campus). It’s rich
history inspires the architecture,
culture , and lifestyle. We also took
a tour of their labs and saw their
projects. Even their college market
had a historic feel.
Geospatial building. They had
impressive projects being

An infrastructure based company in London
where we had a brief presentation and Q/A
session with the Directors and the Graduate
Team. I exchanged business cards with the
Director of Infrastructure and Design.
A Food re-distribution company based in
Dublin that collaborates with big food stores to
collect their “waste-food”, store it and
dispense it to charities and some families for a
lot cheaper. They mainly operate using an App.
Company and Lab tour of manufactured
and modelled Stents and Balloons for
parts of the human body.
A Factory visit of their Shell Manufacturing
and Production Line at Oxford. The former
was entirely Automated. The production line
had all random models based on orders.
Factory tour of manufacturing and testing of
Med-Products used to test blood samples.
Joseph Cyril Bamford’s company, museum
and factory tour was one of the better ones.
We received a run-through their chassis line.
Their works in Heavy-Duty Vehicle and
Machinery, the fastest boat ever, Planes and
other Old home-processors were amazing.
A Company and Lab tour of microchips
being manufactured. Labs were 1000x
cleaner than a surgery room. Got hands
on cool gadgets: Drone, cattle feeder,
arduino sensor and exotic hand washer.
Toured the National Facility that
brewed more than half of the country’s
beer.
