Mekel
Growing up, Mekel always loved to draw. Especially girls in
pretty dresses. She thought about being a fashion designer
but quickly realised she hated sewing and went on to study
graphic arts instead.
After working for over 10 years as a graphic designer for different boutique
agencies in Perth, Western Australia, Mekel started kickin’ goals as a full-time
illustrator.
Her first professional assignments were illustrating ‘More Money for Shoes’
a book by Melissa Browne, and was chosen by Urban Walkabout to illustrate
the front covers of their Perth guides over the course of two seasons. You
may have seen her handwritten logo for Betts Shoes, shoebox and large
watercolour murals for the iconic Australian store.
Mekel joined the Jacky Winter Group in 2014, and now works with clients
across the world, including Twinings, TOPSHOP, Westfield, Elle and Revlon.
She has been interviewed by Vanity Fair and featured as one of their ‘5 mustfollow
fashion illustrators’, and is known for her delicate line work, large scale
watercolours and pops of bright colour.
Mekel has held three solo exhibitions, her first in 2013 for the Perth Fashion
Festival, 2014 ‘Wanderlust‘ for Urban Couture and 2016 for the First Monday
in May Perth premiere.
Mekel lectures at South Metropolitan TAFE teaching social media, eMarketing,
branding and fashion illustration.
Christopher Nielsen
Christopher Nielsen’s illustrations flow forth from a love of
vintage design. His first comics were printed in 1980 after
entering a competition in the Norwegian Anarchist magazine.
Tin toys, Mexican wrestlers, Matchboxes, Medical Charts
and Indian Goddesses all jostle for attention amongst the flotsam and
jetsam in his flip-top head. His images have been adopted by wineries, zoos,
department stores, radio stations and fish mongers around the globe. When
he’s not making images for you or raising children he can be found on stage
with his band The Ramalamas.
His clients include Myer Dept. Store, Penguin Random House, Little Hare
Publishing, Lion Beverages, Variety, Taronga Zoo, Yalumba, Mental Floss,
KEEP LEARNING Always do your best. What you
FRIENDS AND FAMILY
If you think my hands
are full, you should see
my heart.
Simpler than my other artworks, ’Reflections’ is just that,
a mirror on what is the absolute most important to you.
This artwork is designed to show this in the barest of ways, removing all the
peripheral clutter, leaving only the symbols of what truly represent your
greatest loves.
two good forgivers.
