The Pittsburgh Patrika, Vol, 22, No. 4, July 2017 Adding a New Feature At the suggestion of Harish Saluja, we are starting a new feature. Indian languages are a treasure trove of short poems on diverse topics. We welcome readers to submit poems to share with readers under these guidelines: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. The poem needs to be short (10 to 18 lines). Give it in the original script: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gurumukhi, Gujarati, Oriya, Bengali, Devanagari, Shahmukhi… Give an easily readable English translation in freestyle or in verses. Give the citation of the poet and his/her time. If you have written the poem your- self, that is even better, even when it is bitter. ;--)) Enquiries: ThePatrika@aol.com • Ego — By Juginder Luthra Kill the ego before death overtakes you, Then see the joy of living. Seek inside and see image of God; What’s the point wandering here, there? Same God who lives in me lives in you; What benefit of giving different names? Religions, rituals are created by humans. What use has Reality for different titles? Wherever you look, you see God’s manifestations... Perceive who is embedded in them. Your thinking is much smaller than His. Accept what is acceptable to Him Surrender the reins of life to the One who runs the universe; He creates, sustains, destroys and then creates new. One who is transient has no need of ego; Kill the ego before death overtakes you, Then see the joy of living. Note: For lack of better method, God is referred in gender-specific pronouns like He, His, Him. 6
