A SKETCH OF OUR HISTORY 

Brahma is one of four wholly-owned subsidiaries of Terra Millennium 

Corporation (TMC). TMC was founded in 1906 in San Francisco, California 

to support rebuilding efforts following the Great San Francisco Quake. 

Brahma was founded in 2002 when a handful of TMC employees 

borrowed $200,000 to work a single job at the Kennecott Copper 

Mine in Bingham, Utah. The first job was successful—a beginning 

to an extraordinary reputation. Brahma made additions in 

engineering, procurement and construction capabilities, 

bringing opportunities in new markets and expansion to 

other locations. Brahma now generates nearly $300M in 

annual revenue.

MOBILE ACCOUNTABILITY 

Brahma is the first contractor in the nation to 

develop a mobile app for safety, revolutionizing 

the approach taken to keep employees safe 

and creating a unique safety culture. In the past, 

the industry has based safety performance on 

reaction, measuring safety from incidents that have 

already happened. The BRAHMA SAFETY APP, 

however, helps us take a proactive approach to 

safety gauging an employee’s safety participation 

in real time. Ranging from the CEO to the field 

superintendents, the safety app asks each Brahma 

employee every day why they are safe. Capitalizing 

on the why is instrumental in furthering our safety 

development and creating a safety culture where 

people actively live safely every day, on and off of 

the job site. 

Our culture of safety is unique to any other industrial 

contractor. To us, safety is a way of life, and every 

employee is held to the highest safety standard. What 

makes us different from other contractors in the 

industry is the buy-in and participation in safety from 

upper management, creating a trickling effect down to 

every worker in the field. 

BEYOND ZERO 

Our safety mission, called Beyond Zero, is best 

visualized using the sports analogy of a field goal. If 

there’s a 25-yard field goal to be made, the ball isn’t 

just kicked 25 yards, it’s kicked 45 yards to ensure 

it goes through. Beyond Zero encourages the same 

mentality. Instead of striving for simply zero harm, 

we work to go beyond that number. We take our 

safety culture Beyond Zero to be a way of life for our

create awareness of the possible hazards for specific 

jobs and the steps to take to mitigate hazards. 

Weekly Safety Meetings 

All projects hold weekly safety meetings with every 

employee working on a project. These 

safety meetings identify possible hazards within 

the various tasks to be performed on a job and 

preventative measures to ensure everyone’s safety. 

Weekly Safety Messages 

Weekly safety messages are sent out to companywide 

to create awareness of real-time safety hazards 

and how to safeguard oneself from those hazards. 

This safety message adds to the culture of Beyond 

Zero. 

Training 

Training workshops, self-evaluations, testing and 

safety leadership assignments place an 

emphasis on safety and help Brahma supervisors 

actively champion safety programs and to lead 

confidently in safety culture. We also verify that 

training records for all employees are documented and

We hold an annual calendar contest open to all 

members of the community. Participants submit 

drawings depicting why safety is important, which 

creates a deeper perspective of the importance

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: CAPITAL / POWER 

CRESCENT DUNES 

THERMAL SOLAR POWER PLANT

“THE FIRST OF ITS KIND AND OF 

ITS SIZE IN THE WORLD” 

The Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project is a 110 

MW solar energy thermo power plant located 

in Tonopah, NV. The power plant is the first utility-scale 

facility in the world to feature advanced 

molten salt power tower energy storage capabilities 

that efficiently and cost effectively store solar 

energy. This game-changing technology enables 

the Crescent Dunes plant to provide a stable and 

predictable electricity supply without the harmful 

emissions or hazardous waste associated with 

conventional fossil fuel-burning or nuclear power 

facilities. The Crescent Dunes project will generate 

more than twice the annual output of other technologies 

per MW of capacity producing over 500,000 

megawatt-hours per year and powering over 75,000 

homes. 

We performed the mechanical erection of equipment 

and piping of the power block (Molten Salts 

Storage, Steam Generation & BOP Systems) for 

the power plant, as well the mechanical erection 

of piping (WSH & WSC Systems) inside of the 

massive 548’ Receiving Tower. From the bottom 

to the top of the receiving tower, we installed 20“, 

18”, and 8” vertical pipe comprising 2,672 welding 

inches. The installation of pipe within the tower 

provided a unique challenge from the sheer height 

of the tower to the minimal accessibility the tower 

provided. Brahma crews utilized a single 18’ by 18’ 

entrance to safely deliver and install piping, scaffolding, 

equipment, and materials. Utilizing precision 

organization, communication and scheduling, 

our crews successfully and safely completed the 

piping installation in accordance with strict schedule 

requirements. A challenging aspect of the Crescent 

Dunes project was the isolated location it was built 

in. Coordination between vendors and contractors 

was essential to the productivity and deadline for 

completion. 

We managed the project in a way where logistics 

worked like a living, moving organism. There was 

exceptionally close communication and organization 

with the owners, subcontractors, vendors, and 

workers, which allowed for little to zero downtime 

throughout the entire process. We attribute the 

success to the experienced project management 

skills of our teams, our capability to proudly execute 

difficult projects, and a philosophy to view challenges 

as an opportunity to succeed.

The Abengoa Bioenergy Ethanol and Cogeneration 

Plant is a new biomass-to-ethanol biorefinery 

located in Hugoton, Kansas. The biorefinery is 

the first of its kind commercial scale facility fueled 

completely by biomass. The plant produces 25 million 

gallons of cellulosic ethanol derived from nearly 

350,000 tons of biomass annually. The Hugoton plant 

utilizes over 1,000 dry tons of biomass per day in the 

ethanol production process. The residue generated 

from the ethanol production process combusts with 

300 tons per day of raw biomass producing 18 MW 

of electricity, fueling electricity for cogeneration, 

and making the entire facility energy efficient and 

environmentally friendly. 

As well as our mechanical and structural work on 

the project, Brahma also provided commissioning 

assistance in biomass handling and cogeneration 

areas. We performed the mechanical work for the 

cogeneration startup and turbine alignment startup 

services. 

At the Hugoton Ethanol and Cogeneration Plant, 

Brahma executed the mechanical, structural, and 

commissioning work. Mechanically, we completed 

various ASME code compliant piping systems per 

B31.3 and B31.1 standards. We performed structural 

and equipment installations throughout the plant 

installing ethanol storage, chemical storage, water 

treatment, steam deck, pipe rack, plant air, fire 

protection raw water, clean in place, biomass handling, 

natural gas power generation, turbine generation 

equipment, power generation equipment, cooling 

water, pre –treatment area, and an ethanol load out 

station.

The Solana Power Plant located in Gila Bend, 

Arizona is the largest parabolic trough plant in 

the world. The plant is a 280MW utility-scale solar 

thermal electric plant with six hours of molten-salt 

thermal energy storage. The solar field covers 3 

square miles with 3,200 mirrored parabolic trough 

collectors and 2.2 million square meters of reflective 

area, and is oversized by approximately 70% relative 

to the actual calculated solar thermal requirements 

to ensure the plant will achieve summer on-peak 

capacity factors of approximately 100% from solar 

energy alone. 

Brahmas first contract for Abengoa began in the fall 

of 2012. The contract included installation of process 

piping and mechanical equipment in the Heat Transfer 

Fluid (HTF) Overflow area. During the project our 

quality garnered attention from other Abeinsa personnel, 

who subsequently solicited another proposal 

from Brahma to install the process piping in the HTF 

pump area. This project consisted of installing large 

boar piping up to 42” in diameter, bellows for the 

suction and discharge sides of the ten main circulation 

pumps, structural pipe supports and expansion 

loops, small bore piping, hydro testing, and completing 

over 3000 welds. Brahma maintained detailed 

quality control records and completed this project in 

February of 2013. Brahma employed over 170 craft 

during this contractual period and operated with 

crews around the clock to meet the tight delivery 

schedules. Our performance on this project opened 

another door of opportunity for Brahma to provide 

Start-Up and Commissioning Services for the 

plant. These services included steam blow downs, 

turbine alignment on their 150 megawatt turbines, 

main cooling water pump alignment, removal and 

replacement, expedited shipping for a myriad of 

parts and services, and over 100 additional projects 

to bring the plant into service. Our ability to scale up 

and down with craft in a rapid fashion, coupled with 

our responsive logistics process positioned our company 

to provide high quality, time sensitive service. 

We became the primary commissioning contractor 

and remained on site through the entire Start-up 

phase and beyond. This project rolled into completing 

punch list items for the EPC group before they 

turned the plant over to their internal operations 

group in January of 2014. Shortly after the plant was 

commissioned we began performing routine maintenance 

and plant enhancements for the Maintenance 

and Operations Group. From January to present 

we have completed various projects including civil 

projects, pre-manufactured buildings, vehicle wash 

stations, bio soils watering systems, millwright 

assistance for pump alignment, and a list of 20 plus 

miscellaneous projects for the plant.

Quichapa sites 1, 2 and 3 are three 

separate photovoltaic solar plants covering 

approximately 163 acres of land. Brahma 

executed the full EPC for these projects including 

the permitting and utility coordination. 

The Quichapa Power Plants produce nearly 12MW 

of power using a single axis tracker ground mount 

system and 335W Sun Edison Silvantis modules. 

Each site used two 1560KW power electronic 

central inverters and Nextracker single axis tracker 

racking systems. 

In addition to the engineering, construction and 

procurement, Brahma facilitated the transfer of 

ownership and helped secure financing for the 

power plants. With close coordination with the 

utility, and an advanced system that tracks progress 

daily, Brahma has successfully maintained the 

projects constricted timeline. 

Brahma Group performed the full EPC contract 

for a 20KW photovoltaic solar project at the Tesla 

Headquarters in Palto Alto, CA. The project used 

ballasted roof mounts and 320W Canadian Solar 

modules. Solectria and Solar Edge string inverters 

were utilized along with Panel Claw Polar Bear 3 Roof 

Ballasted racking systems. 

Brahma Group engineered, procured, and 

constructed a 20KW solar canopy in a joint venture 

with Hunt Electric. The canopy was designed by 

SFLEX.
