HOW TO USE
COMBINED ORAL
CONTRACEPTIVES
Birth Control Pills

How to Use Combined
Oral Contraceptives
Combined oral contraceptives, also known as the pill, are oral birth
controls that contain progestin and an estrogen. The pills restrain
ovulation- maintaining your ovaries from releasing egg and cause
alterations in the cervical mucus and the uterine lining to keep
sperm from amalgamating the egg.
a) Take Ovral pill one each day at the same time for as long as
you want to avoid your pregnancy.
b) Take the pills from left to right.
c) When you get to the placebo tablets at the end of the
package, persist to take them same way.
d) When you take the last tablet in the package, begin a new
pack the very next day.
e) As long as you do this, you are protected from pregnancy for
the whole month.
How do I begin my pills?
There are 3 different ways to begin taking the birth control pills.
a) First day of period start:
Begin your Ovral G pills on the first day of your period. Carry on
taking one tablet each day at the same time. With this process, you
do not need to use a backup method as the tablets are efficient in
averting pregnancy immediately.
b) Quick Start:
Consume your first pill today at a good time for you. Continue to
take one pill each day at the same time. With this process, you
must use backup pregnancy protection (like condom or
abstinence) for at least 7 days.
c) Sunday start:
Take your first tablet on the first Sunday after the start of your
menstrual cycle. If your period begins on a Sunday, begin your pill
that day. Carry on having one tablet every day at the same time.
With this process, you must use backup pregnancy protection (like
abstinence or condom) for at least 7 days.
What if I miss a period while using oral contraceptives?
It is normal to occasionally skip a menstrual period entirely while
using the pill. Keep in mind, since tablets can make your regular
period flow lighter, hence even a very small amount of blood can
be count as a regular menstrual period. If you do miss a period
(and you have no signs of pregnancy), carry on with your next pack
of tablets on schedule. If you miss other period the next month,
carry on with your pills but go on to a clinic or your doctor and
have a pregnancy test done. Oral birth control is known to harm
an early pregnancy.
What if I miss having a tablet for one day, or take it
late?
Believe using a backup method like you could abstain (no sex) for
the first 7 days or use condoms after you miss the pill.
Consume one tablet as soon as you remember and your regular
tablet at the standard time (you may be taking 2 pills on the same
day: one at the time you remember and other at your regular time).
What if I miss taking more than one tablet?
If you miss more than one tablet, what to do depend on how much
estrogen (one of hormones) is in your type of birth control tablet.
What are some possible side effects from the pill?
Few people experience minor effects like weight gain or loss,
nausea, breast cancer, mild, dizziness, headaches, or spotting
during the first 3 months on the tablets. If these symptoms
continue after 3 months, return to your doctor or clinic for followup
you may be switched to a different type of tablet.
stomach, below your rib cage
