genome technology there is a
new method used to modify
the genes of plants, it is
genome editing. What is
genome editing?
Genome editing alters
genetic information by using
an enzyme like a pair of
scissors to cut DNA strands.
The first generation of the
technology appeared in
1996, but both it and the
improved second generation
required different enzymes
for each targeted gene.
As a result, only a small
number of research
laboratories were able to
successfully employ these
methods. Is there an ethical
question that is being
overlooked in the
experiments on the genome
of plants?

advanced in the agricultural

experiments have been done
using plants.

plants.
CRISPR/Cas, the third
generation of the technology,
was developed in 2012. This
method cuts DNA by
targeting nucleic acids, which
are polymers attached to
DNA. Because this requires
only changing the sequence
of nucleic acids, a common
enzyme can be used to cut
different genes, making
editing much simpler.
GMO has been known in the
past to combine the genes of
unrelated species such as
fish and plant genes.
Genome editing uses the
same DNA by splicing or
sectioning the same strand
of DNA.
Genome editing changes
how genes work by removing
and altering targeted pieces
of the genome. Like
conventional cross-breeding,
genome editing uses genes
from within a single species.
This is different from genetic
recombination, which
introduces genes from other
species.
These new types of GMO do
not have to be approved by
the USDA they can be used
without any regulation.

In the U.S., researchers at the
Pennsylvania State University
developed mushrooms that are
slow to discolor. The Department
of Agriculture decided that these
mushrooms do not require USDA
approval because they do not
contain any foreign DNA.
The advancing in technology of
genome alterations still does not
respond to the unethical view of
changing the origin of creation. It
is an irresponsible approach at
science ignoring the origin of its
intent in the creation of plants
and even animal life.
THE NEW GMO
Professor Masashi Tachikawa of
Nagoya University, a close
observer of global trends in
genome editing, points out, "The
U.S. Food and Drug
Administration has not made a
decision on the product's safety
as a food, and there are moves to
review the regulations." It is a
wonder if the safety of the
genome editing will be fairly
considered.
The alterations are affecting the
health of the animals eating
these types of foods. The side
effects are still to be seen if
testing is being conducted
without bias, otherwise the truth
of how genome editing will affect
us will not come to light in the
scientific field of research.

Today, the standard of child care has
been lowered and more children are
bearing the role of parents which
results in broken and unhealthy
families. We need to raise the
standard and get back to God's ideal.

up, avoid our Lord and quickly go
through our day.
Not considering that it is a gift of
God to wake up to see a new day.
This neglect of duty soon develops in
our children. "What a man is has
more influence than what he says.”

Therefore, we should not wonder
why our children are indifferent with
regards to the Word of God and
spiritual things. We need to spend
time in the word with our children
leading them in the way of Christ.

the way of the Lord, then Satan will
lead them in his way; whose end is
destruction. Take advantage of the
precious opportunities to raise your
children aright. An account is to be
given for wayward children. Parents,
do not neglect the responsibility God
has given you to care for the precious
fruits in your home garden.
A C T I V I T Y
Spend quality

week beholding
together
Christ's love in
His word.
Let us not leave it up to the media or to
the school system to do the work in
our home that God has called us to do
as parents. It should be our life’s work
to attain the ideal God has set in order
that we may be fit for the citizenship of
heaven. Let this be said of us “For I
know him, that he will command his
children and his household after him,
and they shall keep the way of the
LORD, to do justice and judgment.”
Genesis 18:19

The Heavenly Sanctuary
is a house in heaven built,

temple of the living God,

tabernacle true, where guilt
