Special Guest, Gillian West:<br />

Gillian West has been teaching all levels <strong>of</strong> sailing and navigation for<br />

over thirty years. With a lifetime <strong>of</strong> devotion to safe and adventurous<br />

sailing, Gillian has held positions on race committees, boards <strong>of</strong><br />

directors for sailing clubs and schools, and contributed on sailing<br />

committees for Sail Canada, BC Sailing and the Royal Vancouver<br />

Yacht Club.<br />

Gillian has held leadership positions as a teacher and long-time Sail<br />

Canada Cruising instructor and Instructor Evaluator and is the author<br />

<strong>of</strong> the 'Basic Cruising Skills' program resource.<br />

LadySail is one <strong>of</strong> BC Sailing/Sail Canada Member Sailing Schools<br />

fortunate enough to have been mentored by her passion and<br />

expertise.<br />

Gillian has also circumnavigated the world as captain/navigator <strong>of</strong><br />

her own boat SV Khamsin, a Noon Ocean 34 from 1991-2005.<br />

She will be sharing many <strong>of</strong> her global sailing adventures with slide<br />

presentations and discussion each evening while on board<br />

Panterra's 110ft motor yacht, MV Adventure.<br />

Gillie Hutchinson, owner/operator <strong>of</strong> LadySail is proud to introduce<br />

mentor, Gillian West to this exclusive group during our extraordinary<br />

voyage together in the <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cortez</strong> - the place where Gillian’s<br />

circumnavigation first began all those years ago.<br />

Trip Highlights and Natural History:<br />

Snorkeling and Kayaking - Crystal clear waters boast an abundant<br />

biodiversity <strong>of</strong> marine life, teeming with schools <strong>of</strong> fish and marine<br />

invertebrates. Snorkel with the sea lions and, whale sharks if they are<br />

in the area. Kayak along the pristine coastlines.<br />

Wildlife Encounters – During the cruise, encounter whales, dolphins,<br />

mobula rays, flora and fauna <strong>of</strong> the desert islands, and enjoy an<br />

excursion to view the frigate birds nesting in their natural habitat<br />

Evening Presentations - Gillian West shares stories and slides <strong>of</strong> her<br />

world sailing experiences; Lela Sankeralli <strong>of</strong> Panterra shares her<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> the natural history <strong>of</strong> the sea and desert islands.<br />

Wine-tasting and Cooking Lesson - Sip Baja wines, local beers<br />

and speciality ‘Happy Hour’ cocktails and spend a morning learning<br />

how to prepare, cook and present a typical Mexican dish (lunch)<br />

with Panterra’s local on-board Chef.<br />

Lunch at Hotel California in Todos Santos – After disembarking<br />

the ship on day 6, enjoy a beautiful lunch at this famous hotel <strong>of</strong><br />

the Eagles fame.<br />

Land Adventures in La Paz - Stroll, shop and explore the quaint,<br />

beautiful town <strong>of</strong> La Paz or relax by the pool at Hotel Catedral<br />

(hotelcatedral.mx) during the 2-night stay at the end <strong>of</strong> the trip,<br />

including a ‘Farewell Dinner & Margarita Party’ on the last night.


The Ship, MV Adventure:<br />

Accommodation is on-board the 110ft aluminum hull ship, MV<br />

Adventure, a certified passenger vessel <strong>of</strong>fering single, double or quad<br />

occupancy. Each berth has air-conditioning, cupboards and drawers,<br />

sink/vanity unit and spacious bunks. Showers and washrooms are<br />

separate. The ship has a main deck with dining area and snorkeling<br />

station at the rear, as well as an upper deck ideal for wildlife viewing.<br />

The local Captain, engineer and crew, including a Safety Officer, are<br />

on-board to ensure your safety and well-being at all times. They bring<br />

many years <strong>of</strong> marine experience and <strong>of</strong>fer the warmth and kindness<br />

that reflect the people <strong>of</strong> Baja, Mexico.<br />

Itinerary:<br />

Day 1 - arrival and transfer to ship (2.5 hr), depart for the islands<br />

Days 1-5 – on board M.V. Adventure<br />

Day 6 – disembark, lunch at Todos Santos, check into hotel in La Paz<br />

Day 7 - leisure day, last evening Farewell Dinner & Margarita Party<br />

DAY 8 - Hotel check out, group departs for their return trip home<br />

Climate:<br />

During the month <strong>of</strong> April the average temperature in the <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cortez</strong><br />

ranges from 22-26º C (72-79º F). Days are warm and beautiful however<br />

evenings cool down and <strong>of</strong>ten require light pants and a jacket.<br />

CA$2195.00 per person, based on double occupancy.<br />
