FEELINGS ON
THE ROAD TO LOVE
Contento de Semrik

To Ohad and Lior, my dear children who
each taught me so much about myself.
You taught me how to be a mother,
how to support and love and envelop
each one of you, and to notice the
special person within you.
Love,
Mother

The Love Queen
Hug yourself a hearty hug,
warm and calming, soft and snug.

1
The Love Queen
The Fairy of Forgiveness,
the Fairy of Joy
live within me and enjoy;
The Jealous Dwarf is here as well,
The Little Sad Gnome, the Angry Gnome
the cowardly Gnome,
the Angel of Serenity,
the Angel of Happiness,
the Dwarf Who Is Full of Hate,
the Funny Clown,
and the Giant of Courage!
I hug them all with love.
I am the Queen of Love.

The Fairy of Forgiveness
Write a letter saying that you are sorry,
or paint a picture to show it to the
other person with whom you want to
make peace.

2
The Fairy
of Forgiveness
She listens and comforts,
her hugs filled with love.
Her eyes warm and peaceful
observe from above.
She holds in her palm a magical star.
Inside it—a dozen more little stars;
white stars and purple—tiny, but bright.
They spread joy and health and might.
She teaches me how to
forgive and forget;
her love is a gift
I was lucky to get.
I thank her and
thank myself
for being the brilliant
person I am.
She listens and comforts…

She's inside my heart
cleaning all around
giving me a fresh start.
She frees my tears and
takes away my pain
with her healing stars on
a colorful chain.
She listens and comforts…
And when the heart
is squeaky clean,
she spreads her stars
that cure and gleam.
They help me forgive
myself and the rest;
they bring me relief,
they make feel blessed.
I place all my wounds
away in a box
and hug myself again
what a feeling—it rocks!

The Fairy of Joy
Write, sketch, or create anything
that makes you happy.

3
The Fairy of Joy
I am happy
when I get a warm loving hug,
when I see the sun shining bright
sending us rays of warmth and delight.
When flowers bloom and butterflies fly,
the children laugh and birds sing high
above the trees of brightest green—
It is such a lovely scene.
My inner Fairy of Joy
shows me all things,
great and small,
breathing and living,
tiny and tall.
The beauty of life
that fills my soul,
like a colorfully gigantic,
happy ball.

The Dwarf of Jealousy
Make a drawing of yourself, or make a
list of all your special features.
Accept yourself with love and joy.

4
The Dwarf
of Jealousy
I envy the most popular girl in class;
she's so pretty. I once told her,
"You are so pretty."
She looked at me, surprised, and said,
"I might be pretty, but you are clever."
That's when the Dwarf
of Jealousy whispered
from deep inside me,
"If we keep comparing
ourselves to others,
we'll never be able to love
the special, beautiful
person that we are."

The Little Sad Gnome
Make a drawing or write, in very small
letters, a list of things that make you
feel sad. Now turn over the page and
in BIG LETTERS make a list of all the
things that make you happy.
Hug yourself despite those sad things
on your list. Read the list of things
that make you laugh and feel joy, or
make a drawing of all the things that
make you happy and cheerful.

5
The Little
Sad Gnome
Sometimes, when my friends insult me
I find it hard to let it be.
I feel so sad, so lost, alone,
unloved—and then I sigh and moan.
The Sad, Sad Gnome comes to my aid;
he lets me cry and cry instead.
The tears he brings are like the rain—
releasing me from worry and pain.
When the Little Sad
Gnome is done and through,
I lift my eyes; that's what I do.
No longer blue,
I watch my image in the mirror
and everything is so much clearer.
I see the child I am inside:
lovable, beautiful, and bright-eyed.

The Angry Gnome
When you feel angry,
blow it all into a balloon.
Fill the balloon with your anger,
and then let all the angry air out of
the balloon.

6
The Angry Gnome
I am angry when I feel unloved,
when no one understands me,
when no one listens to me.
There's plenty of other
stuff that makes me mad;
I want to shout—and that's too bad.
Instead, I use this clever plan—
I breathe as deeply as I can.
And when the air goes out again,
The Angry Gnome leaves
too—no strain.
I do it once more: air in, anger out
until I no longer want to shout.
When I calm down, I close my eyes
and inhale the nicer guys—
The Gnomes of Happiness.

The Cowardly Gnome
Think of something you
want to do but are too afraid.
Close your eyes and imagine yourself
doing it despite your fear.
Do it again and again.

7
The Cowardly Gnome
I am afraid of the dark,
especially when I am alone.
I am afraid of the dentist
and would rather be home.
And when The Coward
Gnome is shaking inside me,
I tell him,
"Relax, let's try and be friends.
Friends who count to three
and then turn into angels who can
love and hug with strong warm arms.”
I feel his soft wonderful caress
and I calm down, relieved of stress.
I feel so great I want to hug him,
But he is gone…until next time.

The Angel of Serenity
Write down, draw, or create anything
that might help you calm down.

8
The Angel of Serenity
Sitting on the beach,
building castles in the sand,
the waves caress my feet;
the wind is soft and
I look upward to the blue sky
and dream of flying to a cloud up high.
Up there…
The clouds float in the sky,
changing colors and shapes and try
to hug you on the way.
Sitting on a tree branch,
listening to birds sing,
noticing the leaves swing.
I feel serene.
I am at one with The Angel of Serenity.
He exists inside me.

The Angel of Happiness
Draw, write down,
or create something
that makes you happy.

9
The Angel
of Happiness
I love The Angel of Happiness.
I love, love, love him.
He's a wonderful friend;
he lives in my heart.
I am happy when people
I love give me a hearty warm hug.
I am happy when I touch my dreams,
when I am my dreams,
when my wishes come true.
I am happy when I love myself,
when I know myself,
when I am, I do.
I feel so special, full of joy
when the angel I knew since I was a boy
grows with me to become
this wondrous creature full of charm—
The Giant Angel of Happiness in my heart.

The Dwarf Who Is Full of Hate
Make a drawing of something
you don't like.
Look at it closely.
What don't you like?
Can you see how it reminds
you of yourself?
Hug yourself with a big warm hug.

10
The Dwarf Who
Is Full of Hate
Every once in a while, a hating little sprite
jumps out of me and screams with delight,
"I hate this kid; I hate his guts!"
I know what he means, and it drives me nuts.
He doesn't like my being sly;
he is annoyed and so am I.
Perhaps it's time to realize
and maybe even improvise—
Not all my traits I do admire.
I still have goals, I still aspire,
and when this little hating guy
jumps out of me and starts to cry,
I have to try, just try
accepting myself as I am and not deny
that after all—I am a great guy.

The Funny Clown
Learn to laugh, mainly at yourself.
Laugh, especially when awkward and
embarrassing things happen to you.

11
The Funny
Clown
He is my bestest,
bestest mate.
He lives inside me
and creates the laughter
and the tons of joy
that wait out there
for us to enjoy.
He makes me laugh,
and I giggle.
He makes everybody
else laugh too.
I laugh and laugh.
I can even laugh at myself
when I laugh with him;
My soul is laughing
in deep roaring laughter
that comes from inside the body.

The Giant of Courage
Close your eyes and inhale deeply,
a deep courageous breath. Imagine
yourself as a very brave giant.

12
The Giant of Courage
Whenever I hesitate or feel afraid,
unsure or dilly-dally,
I know I am going to fail;
I am sure it's final.
Whenever I want my dreams to come true,
I say goodbye to the dwarfs who boo...
The hesitant ones, the frightened mites,
and turn my gaze toward the light.
I watch the sky, so bright and clear,
and instantly I have no fear.
I walk hand-in-hand with the Giant of
Courage.
Laughing and smiling he is always by my side.
