Reyes Recap
June is National Safety Month and although the majority of our corporate employees work in an
office setting, there are still things you can do to ensure your safety and the safety of those
around you. Safety is one of Reyes Holdings core values so this month focus on your
surroundings and think of ways you can make safety a priority.
Reyes Corporate Challenge took place this past Thursday May 25, 2017. This was Reyes’ 7th year
participating in the challenge. We had a total of 52 participants from across the enterprise. This is
more than double the number of participants that Reyes had at the event its first year.
“I look forward to the Corporate Challenge every year as motivation
to beat my time from last year. Being part of “Team Reyes” is also a
great way to meet people from the other companies and get to
know them outside of the office. Whether you are a walker, jogger
or runner it is a fun work event to kick off the spring/summer
season.”
-Joe Tomanio, Accounting Manager Martin Brower

As of June 20 th Summer is officially here! As everyone
begins to plan adventures remember to be safe and
always be prepared. We all know warm weather
brings the barbecues, bonfires, and beaches, but
don’t forget about the bugs, burns, and beverages.
When you are outdoors this summer remember to
use caution when dealing with open fires, apply
sunblock and bug spray generously, drink plenty of
water, and if you are consuming alcohol make sure
you have a ride home.
Be safe and have fun!!!

Vol. 3 JULY 2017
Reyes Recap
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has declared July UV Safety Month. The goal is to spread the
word about how important it is to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun's UV rays. UV radiation is
the leading cause of skin cancer and can also causes wrinkles, eye problems, and a weakened immune system.
Avoid or limit your sun exposure when the UV index is at its highest. UV rays are the strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of 30 SPF or higher (blocks both UVA and UVB). Reapply every
two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
your skin by wearing lightweight protective clothing, preferably long sleeve shirts and pants.
Protect your scalp and face with a broad-brimmed hat.
UV rays not only damage your skin; they can cause vision problems, including cataracts and macular degeneration.
To protect your eyes, wear a wide-brimmed hat to shade your face and eyes, as well as wrap-around sunglasses that block 100% of UV rays
and absorb most HEV rays.
You need to be proactive about sun protection every day, including when it's cloudy. UV rays can
penetrate through clouds and haze. Sun damage can occur any time of year, not just in the summer.
On Wednesday, June 14 th our corporate summer interns had the opportunity to see two of our Business Units in action. They were able to visit
Great Lakes Coca-Cola in St. Charles, IL and Windy City Distributing in Aurora, IL.
Manager Anthony Moultrie at the GLCC Distribution Center gave the group a full tour of the warehouses and showed them what a normal day at
a Coca-Cola distribution center might look like. After the tour, lunch was held in the main conference room and interns had the opportunity to
interact with the employees and ask them some questions.
At Windy City Distributing the interns were given a presentation describing what it’s like to be in the distribution industry of craft-beer. After the
presentation they did a tour of the facility and were shown how the operations of the facility are run.
“It was great to be able to see how Reyes Holdings companies operate outside of the corporate office. These distribution centers were
very impressive and we had an awesome day!”
Reyes Social Committee made its way into the City to visit Revolution Brewing, one of their most beloved local partners. The
group spent their Friday night sampling delicious beers, socializing, and learning about how craft beer is brewed at Chicago’s #1
craft brewery.
RSC received a private tour of the 90,000 square ft. facility on Kedzie Avenue, enjoyed some time socializing in their German beer
hall-inspired taproom, and were able to sample Revolution’s most recent seasonal brew - Rosa Hibiscus Ale. Not only did they get
to experience all that is Revolution brewing, but they were able to leave with a Revolution pint glass keepsake.
“We had a nice time. It was nice to see the brewery and the pizza and socializing was great!! I would do it again in a
heartbeat.”
Vol. 5 JULY/AUGUST 2017
Reyes Recap
Where do you usually eat your lunch? If you work in an office,
chances are you eat at your desk, slogging through your workload
while trying not to get too much salad dressing on your keyboard in
the process. Just one in five of us actually take any lunch break at
all, and research suggests all this desk time is hurting our health and
lowering our productivity.
“Staying inside, in the same location, is really detrimental to
creative thinking,” said Kimberly Elsbach, a professor at the
University of California, Davis. “It's also detrimental to doing that
rumination that's needed for ideas to percolate and gestate and
allow a person to arrive at an 'aha' moment.”
A recent study asked participants to go for a 30-minute midday walk
three times a week over a span of 10 weeks. The researchers
equipped participants with a smartphone app that recorded their
mood level, workload, tiredness, and motivation before and
immediately after walks.
Results:
• Midday walks
lowered
employees’ stress
levels
• Employees were
more enthusiastic
about their work
• Employees felt
more confident
about their
performance at
work
Being outside enjoying nature comes with its own brain
benefits. A dose of sunshine jumpstarts the production of
serotonin, a neurotransmitter believed to be connected to
mood and happiness.
Putting some space between you and your workload has a restorative effect
on your brain.
• Employees who regularly
take breaks during the
workday are more
productive than their
workaholic counterparts
• Physical exercise tells the
brain to produce
endorphins
• Even walking around
indoors can boost creativity
• Desk plants serve as a
mood-lifting substitute for
outdoor foliage
“We know that creativity and innovation happen when people change
their environment, and especially when they expose themselves to a
natural environment," Elsbach says.
So the next time you’re feeling depleted, the least you can do is take a
stroll down to accounting or tackle a few flights of stairs, and say no to
the sad desk lunch. Your boss and your body will thank you.
