Can acidic foods lead to Osteoporosis / loss of b<strong>on</strong>e mass?<br />

FACT: There are no scientific publicati<strong>on</strong>s supporting <strong>the</strong>se claims. Most of <strong>the</strong> informati<strong>on</strong> put out<br />

<strong>about</strong> this is NOT based <strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>trolled scientific studies <strong>and</strong> are not credible. There are numerous peerreviewed<br />

publicati<strong>on</strong>s, however, which dem<strong>on</strong>strate that <strong>the</strong>re are no correlati<strong>on</strong>s between c<strong>on</strong>suming<br />

acidic foods <strong>and</strong> b<strong>on</strong>e loss. 11,12,13,14.<br />

Is Acidic water polluted water?<br />

FACT: N<strong>on</strong>-toxic minerals <strong>and</strong> compounds added to water can change its <strong>pH</strong> 19 . Carb<strong>on</strong> dioxide, for<br />

example, can shift <strong>pH</strong> towards acidic <strong>and</strong> Calcium/Sodium can shift it towards a more alkaline <strong>pH</strong>. In fact<br />

<strong>the</strong>re are some pollutants which may cause water to become more alkaline 20 .<br />

Can you test your urine or saliva to determine if your body is acidic/alkaline?<br />

FACT: The body uses urine to get rid of substances so that <strong>the</strong> blood remains at a c<strong>on</strong>stant <strong>pH</strong>. Different<br />

foods can often change <strong>the</strong> <strong>pH</strong> of urine or saliva but <strong>the</strong>y do not reflect <strong>the</strong> actual <strong>pH</strong> of <strong>the</strong> blood 6,7,8 .<br />

C<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong><br />

C<strong>on</strong>suming ANY water (bottled or tap) instead of highly sweetened soft drinks<br />

<strong>and</strong> juices is <strong>on</strong>e of <strong>the</strong> single best choices you can make to maintain a healthy<br />

body which will decrease your chances of developing lifestyle diseases such as<br />

Diabetes <strong>and</strong> Heart disease.<br />

The <strong>pH</strong> of water (within <strong>the</strong> normal range of 6.5-9.5) has no bearing at all <strong>on</strong><br />

your body's health.<br />
