Methodology and Survey Results<br />

A team of researchers conducted a literature<br />

review in the fields of Islamic culture and the<br />

creative economy that includes publications<br />

from government entities, academia,<br />

multilateral organisations, and specialised<br />

research institutes.<br />

Twenty-three in-depth interviews were<br />

conducted <strong>with</strong> experts in several countries<br />

and disciplines 10 of which are featured in<br />

full. The interviews were instrumental in<br />

identifying challenges and opportunities in<br />

the global Islamic Art and Culture Economy<br />

landscape, as well as understanding how<br />

key influencers perceive Dubai’s role in this<br />

growing sector.<br />

This book is also supported by a survey<br />

that was conducted online <strong>with</strong> over 1,000<br />

residents of Dubai in the months of April and<br />

May of 2016. The objectives of the survey<br />

were to:<br />

• Measure the general level of<br />

understanding of Islamic Art and<br />

Culture Economy among Dubai<br />

residents<br />

• Understand the perception of Dubai<br />

residents about the position of Dubai<br />

as a hub for Islamic Art and Culture<br />

• Understand perceptions of the role of<br />

Islamic Art and Culture on the Dubai<br />

economy and its future growth<br />

• Identify key drivers and barriers to<br />

engagement in Islamic Art and Culture<br />

in Dubai and identify the types of<br />

offerings desired by the general<br />

population<br />

• Identify areas of interest for Islamic<br />

Culture and Art Economy in Dubai<br />

In order to ensure the reliability of results by<br />

subgroups, the survey included over 1,000<br />

residents, aged 18 and above. More details<br />

on the sample profiles are included in the<br />

table below:<br />
