Throughout the last twenty years the connection speeds for internet 

access have risen steadily due to the increase in computer power and 

software complexity, higher resolution displays and a trend for displaying 

images, audio and video. 

The growing popularity of the existing services in combination with the 

introduction of new services will also drive the bandwidth requirements 

further in the future. The more information becomes available in digital 

form, the more data must be made quickly accessible. Therefore, the 

development of new applications will exploit the improved functions of 

the network. Applications that require a bandwidth of more than 

200 Mbit/s have already emerged. 

This bandwidth for the various applications, such as 

Gigabit Ethernet, TV and Telephony, can only be 

provided with so-called FTTH networks, in which the 

fibre-optic cable runs all the way to the home. 

The improved FTTH performance - in comparison to broadband services 

that are provided primarily through copper networks - means several 

obvious advantages for the consumer, both today and also in the future. 

FTTH offers the fastest possible internet access, which applies both 

downstream (from network to consumer) and upstream (from consumer 

to network).

PENGG KABEL GmbH is a traditional Austrian company with two production sites in Steiermark. 

At the two sites, Kapfenberg-Einöd and Wartberg, the company produces and finishes 

communications cable, railway cable and fibre optic cable as well as associated passive system 

components. 

In order to monitor the quality of our products and services and to 

constantly improve the processes, we implemented a quality management 

system in accordance with EN ISO 9001 back in the mid-1990s. 

Our QM system is certified by an accredited body and is accordingly 

audited to ensure its functionality within the framework of annual 

surveillance audits and three-yearly recertification audits. The results of 

these audits are fed back into our quality management system by means 

of a loop-back process, in order that our activities are constantly based 

on an up-to-date management system.

Fibre optic 

cable 

For direct laying in the ground we 

have developed our extremely robust 

A-DQ(BN)2Y feeder cable, which is 

also protected from rodent attack. 

Neither high lateral pressure nor 

tensile loads will give this cable 

difficulties. 

The mini-cable with 144 fibres and just 8 mm external diameter offers the highest capacity in a 

small physical size. Depending on the fibres employed minimal bend radii are possible. The minicable 

was specially designed for a literally "frictionless" interaction with our micro-tubes. This 

mini-cable is available will all fibre counts and with all types of fibres. 

Our micro-cables for the distribution area have been developed for the distribution of data right 

to the customer. 2 to 24 fibres in a central tube reduce the spatial requirements significantly once 

again. These cables are likewise specially tailored to being used in our micro-tubes. 

In order to ultimately be able to distribute the data in the apartments/buildings (also vertically) 

our well-proven four-fibre in-house cable comes into play with its very small external diameter 

(< 3 mm). It comprises 4 semi-loose, 0.6 mm thick full cores, and is ideally suited for installation 

in existing building wiring due to strain relief elements.

This avoids the problems that

Microtube 

Our high fibre mini-cables are blown 

into micro-tubes with external/internal 

diameters of 12/8 mm, in the so-called 

feeder area. In the distribution area 

through to the end-users we reduce the 

tube diameter down to 7 mm and this 

consequently saves a great deal of 

space. The tubes are furnished with 

special surfaces that guarantee the best 

performance when blowing in the 

cables. The interaction between cable 

and tube has been optimised through 

internal testing allowing us to give a 

guarantee of frictionless laying.

Protective tube 

Our larger, high fibre cable in the 

feeder area can also be additionally 

protected from mechanical 

stresses with protective conduits if 

necessary. The protective conduits 

employed are distinguished by a 

high degree of pliability along with 

being very easily shaped during 

the laying process. Low cable 

friction is guaranteed through an 

internal glide layer. 

Cable manhole 

For distribution points or connecting 

points, which should remain 

level with the surface, we offer 

duct types for tight spaces and for 

generous spaces. These ducts 

protect the cable connections ideally 

from wind and weather and 

other mechanical conditions on 

the one hand and yet allow them 

to remain accessible at all times. In 

this sensitive area we trust in the 

well founded know-how of the 

company Langmatz, who are one 

of the market leaders in this field.

House feed-ins 

These house feed-ins were 

specially developed for the sealing 

of fibre-optic cables when being 

fed in through house walls. They 

are suitable for all types of walls 

(DIN 1819T.4) as well as for 

foundations made with waterimpermeable 

concrete. The 

foaming process employed here 

guarantees absolute sealing. Here 

too we rely on Langmatz's many 

years of experience in this field. 

Outdoor cabinets 

If connections and branching in the 

network are to be designed so as to be 

as flexible and variable as possible then 

the PENGG Street Cabinets are ideally 

suited to this. With sufficient space for 

splices and patch connections the 

cabinet leaves no wish unfulfilled. Even 

splitter solutions can be realised with 

these cabinets. The integrated modules 

are up to 100% compatible with those 

from our OPDISYS system for the POP 

area, which simplifies stock-keeping 

and flexibility for you.

Fibre optic enclosures 

Fibre optic enclosures are used on the one 

hand as a connecting element between 

individual lengths of cable and on the other 

hand as cable distributors. With this we 

place all out trust in the products from the 

Tyco Electronics, who enjoy the best of 

reputations in this field. 

The cable feed-in solution simultaneously 

offers optimum protection against external 

influences and also provides convenient 

and user-friendly splicing in the sleeve.

implemented as splitter versions, or can also be incorporated into our street cabinets.
