6 Saturday, August 12, 2017 Biz Number of net taxpayers gone up by 50% over last 4 years: Dar ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said that the number of net taxpayers has surged by almost fifty percent over the last four years. He was addressing a ceremony in connection with the launch of general tax directory for the fiscal year ended on June 2016. The Minister said that over one point two million people filed their returns in 2016. He said tax revenue has enhanced from 1946 billion rupees in 2013 to 3362 billion rupees. He pointed out that this increase in revenue has been witnessed by bringing the privilege class into the tax net and gradually removing the exemptions. The Pakistan Stock Exchange's benchmark KSE 100-Index fell by 0.76 percent or 345.53 points to 45,288.49 points on Friday when compared with 45,634.02 points reported on Thursday. During the week that ended on August 11, the key index plummeted by 1,588.88 points as four out of five trading sessions culminated in the red terrain. The KSE All-Share Index dipped by 0.60 percent or 192.99 points to 32,079.70 points, the KSE 30-Index dropped 1.02 percent or 240.42 points to 23,347.57 points, the KMI 30-Index shed 1.02 percent or 795.75 points to 77,022.88 points, whereas the Islamic All-Share Index went down by 0.75 percent or 168.74 points to 22,438.21 points. During Friday's trading session, the main index traveled in a narrow range of 372.77 points as it touched an intraday high of 45,634.02 points as against an intraday low of 45,261.25 points. Market volumes shrank by 35.07 percent or 61.46 million shares to 113.81 million shares on Friday when compared with a trading of 175.27 million shares registered on Thursday. During the week under review, the top Pakistani equity market reported total volumes of 949.61 million shares at an average daily turnover of 189.92 million shares. Russias shouldinitiate banking channels to facilitate fruits exports: FPCCI LAHORE: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) has said that Russia is the market currently interested in Pakistan’s kinnows and potatos with have a huge potential for Pakistan horticulture sector. ISLAMABAD: SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday urged the government for increasing investment in agriculture research to boost crop yield to strengthen food security in the country. He said our farmers are still lagging behind in terms of availability of good quality seeds, adequate water, power, availability of proper price and market for their produce. “We need to deal with not only the way the world produces food but the way it is distributed, sold and consumed, and we need a green revolution that can boost yields by working with rather than against nature,” he added. He noted that over half of the food produced today is lost, wasted or discarded as a result of inefficiency in the human-managed food chain. “Unless we prepare a balanced and a comprehensive integrated plan, we will not be able to change the lives of farmers,” he added. Stressing the urgent need for use of scientific methods for farming to increase productivity, Iftikhar said it was high time that the country goes for green revolution. Pakistan can save over $1.2 billion annually by encouraging the domestic edible oil sector, he added. He was of the view that proper farming, production, processing and marketing of oilseeds can not only reduce dependence on imports but also help earn foreign exchange as Pakistan is located in the food deficient region. Pitching for `per drop, more crop’, he stressed the need for research in the field of agriculture to determine the health of soil and its needs in terms of seeds, water quantity and amount of fertilization. Oil prices drop as IEA sees slow market rebalancing LONDON: Oil prices fell on Friday after the International Energy Agency said weak OPEC compliance with production cuts was prolonging a rebalancing of the market despite strong demand growth. Brent crude LCOc1, the global benchmark, was at $51.83 a barrel at 1220 GMT, down 7 cents, having earlier fallen 50 cents or around 1 percent to its lowest since Aug. 1. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude CLc1 was down 10 cents at $48.49 per barrel, having earlier dropped 1 percent to its lowest since July 26. Oil touched 2-1/2-month highs on Thursday but closed down around 1.5 percent, with U.S. prices slipping back below $50 amid oversupply concerns. In a press release issued by PBIF’s office on Friday , he said that the trend of excessive imports continues which is to damage all the hard earned gains which call for more measures to restrict unnecessary imports, he said. Mian Zahid Hussain said that imports should be curtailed otherwise it would be difficult for the government to manage things as the external financing requirements for the current fiscal would not be less than 20 billion dollars. He said that last year the remittances went down by three percent to 19.3 billion dollars while the fall was recorded at 11.2 percent in the last month of the last fiscal. However, it jumped by 16.1 percent to 1.54 billion dollars in July which is encouraging. Exports in the month of July increased by 10.6 percent but imports worth 4.8 billion dollars laid waste to all the gains. The trade deficit in the month of July went up by 55.5 percent to 3.2 billion dollars as compared to the last year’s month of July which indicates that the trend will persist, he added. He noted that the last year’s trade deficit remained 32.5 billion dollars which is enough to shake the foundations of the economy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not agree with the Kerala state high court order that acquitted Sreesanth for lack of proof, the official said on condition of anonymity. After the court ruling on Monday, Sreesanth, 34, said he was hoping to get his career back on track and represent India at the next World Cup in 2019. But the BCCI official said: "We don´t agree with the order. It definitely needs to be challenged and within a week the appeal would be filed in the Kerala high court. "We were always clear on this case as the board is firm on its zero tolerance policy on corruption and match-fixing," the official added. We will be successful to win the event of women footbal matches in China, Sadia Shaikh Diya Women Football Club obtained 8th position in Norway during the women football event KARACHI: Diya women football club under the guidance and supervision of the founder and Secretary General Sadia Shaikh, after completing a successful tour of Norway has now left for China. According to details the team has shown great professionalism and obtained 8th position among the 35 countries participants and reached up to quarter final position. The team will be participating in Gothia Cup,which will be held in Shenyang from August 13th to 20th While leaving for China at the Jinnah International Airport Terminal during the talks with the stunning Journalists she said that the trip to Norway was a great success and now we are proceeding to China.
