Seniors Vote In Jerry Rose President<br />

FINAL NIGHT<br />

'Yon Can't Take It With<br />

You' Ends Tonight at AHS<br />

"You Can't Take It With You,"<br />

Moss ·Hart and George S. Kaufman's<br />

smash comedy, plays its final performance<br />

tonight, October 4, in the<br />

<strong>Adams</strong> auditorium. The curtain goes<br />

up on the Broadway hit at 8 p.m. this<br />

evening.<br />

Under the direction of Mr. William<br />

Brady, the <strong>Adams</strong> Drama Club and<br />

Thespia11s are presenting the play,<br />

"You Can't Take It With You," which<br />

tells the story of the trials and tribulations<br />

of the uninhibited Vanderhof<br />

family. Tickets, which are 50c, can<br />

be bought from any Drama Club<br />

member or at the door.<br />

Linder to Speak<br />

AI Leadership Clinic<br />

Public relations consultant Mort<br />

Linder, of Linder-Scott Associates,<br />

w ill be the featured speaker at the<br />

Student Cotmcil's fourth annual leadership<br />

clinic scheduled for W ednesday.<br />

October 9, at 5:30 p.m. Club officers<br />

and those interested in becoming<br />

leaders are welcome t o attend<br />

the dinner and clinic.<br />

.Pat Soellinger, chall:man of the<br />

leadership clinic, announced that the<br />

dinner "·ill begin in the <strong>Adams</strong> cafeteria.<br />

and from there the proceedings<br />

will move on to the Little Theater<br />

for Mr. Linder's talk.<br />

Adult Discussion Leaders<br />

Four classrooms will be used for<br />

discussion groups which will be<br />

headed by four adults of this community.<br />

Dr. Bruce Hostrawser will lead<br />

the session for club presidents and<br />

vice presidents. Secretaries and treasurers<br />

will discuss the problems of<br />

their offices with Mrs. R. Burns and<br />

Mr. George Koch. Mr. Gerald Root<br />

will tell one group how a member of<br />

an organization can become a leader.<br />

Student discussion leaders will be<br />

Dave Brownell, Brian Hedman, Jim<br />

Wiseman, and Jerry Rose. Shirley<br />

Otolski, Sandy Weldy, Judy Jacobson,<br />

and Brenda Barrett will serve as<br />

recorders of the sessions.<br />

The committee in charge of planning<br />

the leadership clinic includes<br />

Pat Soellinger, chairman, and Paul<br />

Troup, Tom Zimmer, Terry Gerber,<br />

Sue Valentine, Katy May, Sue Nelson,<br />

and Karl King.<br />

Price of admission to the leadership<br />

clinic is $1.25. Today is the deadline<br />

Eagles and Bears Unite<br />

Efforts Tonight in Rally<br />

"We want bear meat! We want bear meat!" can be heard resounding<br />

through the hallowE-d corridors of <strong>John</strong> <strong>Adams</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> as the Eagles<br />

prepare to meet their long-standing rivals, the Central Bears, in what has<br />

been termed the "battle -:>f the ages."<br />

Althmtgh they are opponents on the gridiron, <strong>Adams</strong> and Central are joining<br />

forces at 6:30 p. m., October 4. at Potawatomi Park band shelter for a<br />

combined pep rally. Mr. Robert Towner of the <strong>South</strong> Bend Tribune sports<br />

staff will be the featured speaker for tht> rally. Principals Mr. Russell Rothermel<br />

and Mr. Rupert Ferrell will also address the gathering.<br />

Bonfire Climaxes Rally<br />

A dazzling array of feminine beauty and charm will grace the occasion as<br />

Brian Hedman, <strong>Adams</strong>, and Bill Parker, Central, introduce the queens' courts<br />

from their respective schools.<br />

A towering bonfire will be the next scene of action for the fans. Excitement<br />

is expected to run high as cheerleaders from <strong>Adams</strong> and Central lead<br />

the crowd in competitive yelling culminating into one united cheer.<br />

<strong>Adams</strong> cheerleaders will invade enemy territory today: as they travel<br />

across town for the Central pep assembly. This afternoon Eagles will be host<br />

to Central cheerleaders at the <strong>Adams</strong> assembly, scheduled to be held at 2:55<br />

p. m. on the practice field.<br />

The <strong>Adams</strong> court will be presented during half- time of the <strong>Adams</strong>-Central<br />

game, October 5, as part of the time-honored ceremony of the crowning of<br />

Jerry Rose heads the winning team<br />

of Jim Messick, Marilyn Rainer , and<br />

Bob Fischer as <strong>Adams</strong> senior class<br />

president. The new officers were<br />

elected by the seniors Monday, September<br />

30, in the annual class election.<br />

Jerry Rose was chosen from a field<br />

of four presidential candidates including<br />

Paul Niemeyer, Dave Hartenhower,<br />

and Virginia Davis.<br />

Jim Messick won the office of vice<br />

president over Marti Brannan, Mike<br />

Badger, and <strong>John</strong> Stackhouse.<br />

Newly-elected secretary, Marilyn<br />

Rainier, ran against Anne Frank,<br />

Beverly Twigg, and Mary Kay Kindt.<br />

Next year's senior class treasurer<br />

is Bob Fischer , selected from the following<br />

candidates: Phyllis Plotkin,<br />

Gail Gebhardt, Delbert Beyer, and<br />

Jim Toepp.<br />

Senior Convention Colorful<br />

The elections climaxed weeks of<br />

campaigning, speech-making, and<br />

rallies by seniors in conjunction with<br />

their government class studies.<br />

To run for office, seniors must have<br />

spent at least one year at <strong>Adams</strong>, be<br />

a member in good standing of the<br />

senior class, and have a petition signed<br />

by twenty-five seniors .<br />

Amid clever slogans and much<br />

cheering, each candidate spoke at the<br />

senior class convention held Wednesday<br />

evening, September 25, in the<br />

<strong>Adams</strong> Little Theater. Voters went<br />

to the polls Monday, September 30,<br />

to cast ballots for their candidates.<br />

TOWER TO ANNOUNCE<br />

N .H.S. INDUCTEES<br />

Next week's <strong>Tower</strong> will feature<br />

the names of the fall inductees of<br />

the National Honor Society. There<br />

will be an induction ceremony in the<br />

spring for those whose names will be<br />

announced next week, plus the regular<br />

spring inductees. Five per cent of<br />

the senior class will be taken in this<br />

semester.<br />
