Independent Learning - Resource Kits 2017 - 2018

Independent Learning provides a selection of play-based learning activities that supports incidental learning, active participation and creates opportunities for learners to acquire and generalise skills at their own pace. The learning activities ensure that individualisation can take place and because of the concrete nature it also serves as assessment tools. The selected material all has outcomes that align to developmental principals and promote specific academic skills in a fun and colourful way. All the materials provide concrete hands-on activities that are engaging, captivating and motivating. These materials ensure that children learn new skills with great enthusiasm. Finland’s education system is currently number 1 in the world for the simple reason that they have gone back to the basics. The success in Finland has been attributed to the fact that all children learn through play and active participation. These learning activities have been compiled specifically for schools specialising in ASD and Developmental delays but the content is also relevant for early intervention centres. Each kit has been carefully compiled by Reinette Lombard (Remedial therapist) with over 15 years of practical experience in ASD, general specials needs education and child development. Reinette is also a mom of two boys and believes in the power-of-play. The activities are all manufactured to the highest European and North American standards, many of which have won prestigious prizes for innovation around the world.

MORNING RINGS<br />

Morning ring is teacher directed time where children share news, discuss the calendar and<br />

weather and interesting topics. It allows time for a balanced education programme to<br />

develop and encourage independence, critical thinking, problem solving, self-discovery<br />

and the development of basic academic skills for all learning.<br />

Children are encouraged to work together, try for themselves, explore and discover<br />

the world around them.<br />

Below you will find selected materials for each age group that help support and encourage the development<br />

of key skills. Compilation boxes contain assorted Activities that can be used for group and individual work.<br />

These activities are specifically selected to align to the National Curriculum and offer learners an opportunity<br />

to participate actively and independently in their own learning. These activities ensure that individualisation<br />

can take place.<br />
