High School Partnership
York College has a partnership with New York
City public high schools and is home to the
York Early College Academy (YECA)and the
Queens High School
for the Sciences at
York College. York
also collaborates
with 15 additional
high schools through
CUNY’s College
Now program.

In 2000 York College partnered with the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) to establish the FDA’s
Northeast Regional Laboratory on York’s campus. The results
include a M.S. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, student
science internships, faculty interactions and permanent jobs
for graduates.

Economic Value
York employees include over 500 full/part-time faculty
and 876 support staff employees.
51% of York employees live in Queens.
The college adds more than $93 million to the tax
base through staff salaries, directly impacting the
local Jamaica consumer economy and the broader
Queens economy.

Revitalizing Jamaica
On August 17, 2016 Governor Andrew Cuomo came to
Jamaica to announce that Downtown Jamaica was selected
as the winner of the $10 million Downtown Revitalization
Initiative, a component of the state’s New York City Regional
Economic Development Council (NYCREDC). York
College, the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation,
and the Office of the Queens Borough President, were the
applicants that submitted the award-winning proposal for
the Governor’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative.

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s initiative to create tax-free
communities for new and expanding businesses on
SUNY and CUNY campuses throughout the state of
New York.

Our Future
Securing Funding to Build the York College
Academic Village and Conference Center
The proposed Academic Village and Conference Center
will benefit the community by creating construction jobs
and other employment opportunities. This new building
will address the need for additional space due to record
enrollment growth; and serve as a beacon of Southeast
Queens and downtown Jamaica. The nine-story structure
will be approximately 162,988 gross square feet and boast
a sustainable roof garden.
