ForBumr Camp
The Wisconsin Ailiance for Fire Safety fiUnryfre&gg) is a non-profit organization that
promotes fte safefy and br:rn prevention and supports bum survivors tl'rroughout tbe state of
Wisconsin Their Annual Summer Bunr Canp is a special opportunity for bumed injured youths
to share feeiings and experiences, have ftur and make new &iends. This camp can provide a sense
of belonging and temporary frcedom from the fiusrations felt by bum survivors. In 1992, the
Alliance received its 501(c) 3 status. The foilowing is an explanation of this lotter's intent.
l5 years ago, several City of Racine, Wisconsin, fuefighters' got together to hold an annual
fund raisa, for the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety (WAFS), Annual Bum Camp fot Kids.
They decided on holding a Packer Party (NFL: Green Bay Packers) every fall. They brought in
bleachers for tbe stadium feeling, burgers and brats, etc....each year a total success for WAFS
and the Kids.
2005, the Racine fuefighters decided to terminate their benefit. Dave Bosanko, one of the
original fircfighters, said
'No way''. Dave (the oldest bro&er, decided to have a family meeting.
Brother Dave, now retired City of Racine firefighter, Brother Rich, retired City of Kenosha ("\MI;
Battalion Firc Chiei Brother Robb, retired City of Wauwatosa (WI) firefighter, aud Brother Phil,
rctired U.S. Afu Force Assistant Fire Chief, were assembled and agreed to carry on the WAFS
Packer Party tradition annually, as Bosanko Brothars for Bum Camp Packer Parly.
In Novcmber, 2008, tbe Bosanko Brothers held the l3n annual fi..ud raiser. Concluding their
third year of continuing the event, the Brothers have raised over $50,000.00. A-nd for the third
year, working with other major sponsors, $5000.00 (The Bosanko's portion) enflred printing of
a Fire Safety Newspaper for Fire Prevention Week which was given to every student in
Wisconsin througb their schools, in English, Spanish and Hmong.
This year's pafy is scheduled for SeptembEr 18, 2011, at High Tide Pub & Grill in Muskego,
Wisconsin.
On behalf of the Bosanko Brothers for: Burn C*p, and based on the sucoe$s of the 2006 thru
2008 fundmis€rs, we are soliciting monetary donations (payable to WAFS), business sowices,
promotional items, hats, coats, etc., for raffle and live auction sales. Any donations would be
greatly appreciared. Remember, it's rll about the kids.
Office of the Governor
115 E. Stste CaPitol
Madison, Wl53702
Dear Gorcmor Walker,
h ls the positbn of the wlsconsin state Fire lnspcctors Assoclatlon that $rne of the recent changen by the
Joint Flnance Commltteo to ths propossd 2011 -zOtZ state budget may seriously Joopardire the 66fsty of
the cidrens in the St.te of Wisconsin. More sgeciflcally, the changes to the rui0-making proces$ for onCI'
and Ho-famlly honres prohlbiting the Oepartment of Comrnerce from pronrulgating any rule which
Increases the cost of construction or remodellng by more than $1.000 unless certaln procedures are
followed {motion ll46'f, item f26 under Commerce/WEDc/DATcP/D$Ps)'
This revision wlll have a direct impact the ability to adopt and update national modol codes. Nqtlonal
modelcodes and are what municipalltles use to ensure that new construction will meet the challenges of
llfe sefuty and construction tcchnology. Keep ln mind, natlonal modelcodes are considerad the n!"nimurl
to s'hkh e structure can be safely built.
Acordirg to a 2009 Nstbnal Fire Protectlon Association (NFFA) report, 85% of all fire deaths occurred in
thc homc. Home ls whare p€opl6 should f?elthe safest; and that is why it ls important to protect psople
rgainst the derastrtirg effects of flrc. By resrlcting the ablllty of the Department o,f Cornrnerce to
piomugate rules and keep up with national safety standards you are puttlng thourands of familles at risk,
For sxlmplc, lghtwcight construcllon has posed a problom to k€€ping our cltizens and fire fighters safe'
Althorfh lishtwcight construction is sound and strong when used, it falls rapidly when exposed t0 heat,
such as in fire conditions. There have been several roports of roof and floor failures within a few minutes
of heat exposure. None more tragic than on August 14 2006, when a Green &ay flre flghter lost hls llfe
when the flcor geve way wlthin a few feet of the doorway'
The Wisconsin State Fire tnspectors Associatlon is opposed ts the change in the rule maklng process for
one- and two-famlly homes under motion 11464. lt will take awav any future atter, npts to protect 0ur
famllies and flre flghters.
Yours truly,
